NOVEMBER NEWS UPDATE

MEMORIAL DAY

DT3 The Phil Klavus Cup was the final trophy up for grabs as

the 2007 Winter fixtures drew to a close.  Always a

popular day the game was an Ambrose team’s event,

with loyalties tested and friendships formed.

Running out victors this year were yet another new

paring for the “tarts” of the golf club, Richard “Churchy”

Church, Martin “Marty” Page and Dave “Robbo”

 Robertson, this time known as

 WDT3 (Wet Dream Team 3).

              75% of WDT3

Their latest recruit was the big fella himself Mark “Ned Kelly” Burich, who did all of the hard work in securing the win, including his “own” Eagle on the first.  Tied on the same scratch score of 62, but missing out on the net score were the team of Colin “won enough this year” Lane, Hugh “the swollen one” Letessier, Alan “A Team” Prodger and Shane “the Driver” Seward.

Many of the guys enjoyed a BBQ at Jerry’s place after and we thank him and his wife for doing all the hard work and making their place available.  We also presented some of the other trophies for the year.  Congratulations to all those who took one home, including Colin who won the POTY for 2007.  Finally, as the sun was setting the air was thick with many a bulls**t story of greatness.  None more that Robbo and his quest for the Holy Grail (well a yellow shirt that is), but it will be nice to know that next year when the temperatures hits 35 degree’s like it was on Saturday that Robbo will be wearing his “Winners Jumper” with sweaty pride.

PRESIDENT v CAPTAINS TROPHY

26 players turned up for the annual Presidents V Captains Match Play trophy.  The day started with the all of the players lined up against the wall in the car park while both Kevin and Colin took it in turns to pick the players for their teams, then there was an argument over who was gonna be “skins” and who was gonna wear shirts, then there was another argument over who was gonna shoot first and so on, so we went back to the tried and true method of a draw from the bucket.

Actually the games went down to the wire with the all the Presidents men (well 7 of them at least) winning their matches to take out the day 7 matches to 6.  I suppose it really came down to one game in the end and for the record the Pres got the Captain 4+2 to have bragging rights for another year.

Finally as a reminder to all players, next week is the final winter round for 2007.  After the game a club BBQ is being held at Jerry’s place.  If you have not already put your name down, please send an email via info@rosehillsgc.com and let us know you will be attending, so we can do the catering.  Jerry’s address will be advised at next weeks draw.  Also don’t forget to put your name down on the list on the notice board at the club for the trophy night on December 7th, or you can email us to advise.  The cost of the night is now free of charge to financial club members and their partners, however, if you say you are coming and don’t show, we may have to charge you if the venue charges us.

ANNUAL DINNER & PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES

Friday December 7th is the night of the year to dust off the Jacket & Tie, dress up a little and invite your partner along as a thank you to the 2007 Rosehill Social Golf Club Annual Trophy Night Dinner Dance.  This year we make a welcome return to the Rosehill Lodge, which is at the course on the other side of the car park.  Pre Dinner Drinks start at 6.30pm, followed by a 3 course meal to be served from 7.00pm along with beer, bottled wine and soft drinks which are all included in the price.

Later in the evening the major trophies will be presented, along with some fun and games, then dancing will take us to midnight.  Cost per financial member is free of charge per couple, however, if you say you are coming and don’t show, we may have to charge you if the venue charges us.  Should you wish to bring guests (other than your partner) they are welcome to come but will have to pay the full price of $80 per person.  Tables of 8 people are available, so please write who you are planning to sit with on the table list that will be located on the notice board down at the club from 17/11/07.

Book your tickets via info@rosehillsgc.com or call Mark Wilson.  Bookings are a must to ensure the correct catering is provided.  See you at one of the best nights of the year.

FINAL ROUND OF WINTER GOLF

Saturday November 24th (Federal Election day) is the last round of golf for the winter comp.  Following the game, a BBQ and presentation of Monthly Medal and Eagle winners will take place at our Social Secretary’s (Jerry Mercer) house in High Wycombe.  Details will be provided to you personally, when you put your name on the list that will be on the notice board at the club from 17/11/07.  Many thanks to Jerry for making his place available.

WEEKEND AWAY WASH UP

40 people had a great time in the Bunbury region at the clubs annual weekend away.  The Koombana Bay Resort was the home base for both players and guests a like.  The resort is in a great location with clean and modern facilities to cover all tastes.

The weekend commenced with a game of Ambrose at a great little country course at Harvey on Friday.  This year we had to call for a mid-wife as a new “dream team” was born.  Richard “Stud” Church, Dave “Robbo” Robertson, Martin Page & Derek Russell upset some of the more likely favourites to card an impressive 5 under 67, giving them 58.625 on handicap.  2nd place went to Jim “can you smell that” Wyatt, Brian Kapitzke, Delys Fuller & Glenn “I don’t own a yellow shirt” Andersson with 59.75.  Third spot was taken out by the group of “four” (count them) Kevin Pearce, Louieee Didgeridooieee, Mark “Pusher” Wilson, Lawire “Truck” Wishart & John “Izzy” Islip who managed a 61.5.  The best gross for the day went to the team of Colin Lane, Shane Seward, Steve Mahoney and Garret “Jonesy” Jones with a 9 under 65 which didn’t include a score above 4 per hole.

However the biggest upset of the day was when recently returned international jet setter John Trewick had his lunch stolen while leaving it on a bench while heplayed his shot.  A Crow flew in and took the lot!!!  Police are talking to Mark Wilson, a known Crows fan, who is helping them with their enquires.

After various forms of merriment, including a few card games on the Friday night, the group met up at the Sanctuary Resort course for the official club comp on Saturday morning.  Unfortunately the greens desperately needed to visit Keith Scrivens barber, as such putting was tough.  But at the end of the day, the “Pres” Kevin Pearce came in with a handy 39 stableford points to blitz the field by 4 shots over Geoff Durrant on 35 points and Carl “my bloody Volvo buggy broke down again” Andersson on 34 points.  If anyone is interested in getting their hands on one of these buggies, Carl is prepared to pay you to take his away.

Saturday night saw the group congregate at the function room at the resort for a club supplied BBQ, a lucky 10’s fleecing from Les “Dam Buster” Musgrave & Shane Seward, the Master of Arms and the presentation of prizes for the weekend.  Many thanks to Mark Wilson who didn’t play on Saturday, instead prepared all the food and drink ready for the hungry mob to devour.  It was so good some people ate right through their plates looking for more.

Sunday saw the group go their own way with games played at The Sanctuary, Binningyup and Meadow Springs as people made their way home.  A big thank you to all of the people who organised the weekend, we hope you all had fun and will be back again next year.

SUMMER GOLF UPDATE

The Summer golf season kicks off on Saturday December 1st running for 13 weeks and finishing on Saturday February 23rd 2008.  The format is a shortened version of the Winter competition with the main difference being starting at much earlier time to avoid the heat of the afternoon.  Tee Off time is 7 am.  Alf will be running the comp this year.

The Bookings & Fixtures page has the contact details to book as well as the full Summer fixtures. As per the Winter comp, you will need to book Wednesday night, but in the Summer Alf is your contact.  Reservations in the summer time is critical as the course is very busy at that time and failure to do so could see you miss out altogether or be placed at the end of the field several hours after the club’s allocated “Tee off” time.

Please click on the info@rosehillsgc.com link to place your name on the “Expression of interest” list if you are interested to participate. (don’t forget to put your name on the email) or put your name on the board at the club.  We need to know who is interested in playing over the Summer well in advance so as to enable the course management to reserve sufficient spots for us. Visitors are most welcome to join us. They can become a Summer member for only $35.00 This covers them for Insurance and membership for the duration of the summer competition. A  “Summer Club Handicap” can be obtained after handing in 3 cards. Official “WAGL” handicaps will be accepted.

Each week Bill McComb has offered to record the results, “Handicaps”, “Eccelectic” and “Attendances”.  Jim Plowman will take charge of the “Lucky Tens” and take on the role of the “Master at Arms” and Alan Green will be handing the “Bird’s nest” and conducting the “Draw” .  These volunteers will ensure that the meetings will be conducted smoothly and make it an enjoyable day for all the players.  On behalf of the members thank you to all the volunteers.

At the end of the season a social function will be arranged to present the trophies, details will come later from Alf and will also be on our Social Events page.  The web site will continue to keep you updated with results, news and information as it comes to hand.  Enjoy the summer season and we look forward to seeing you turn up in large numbers.

NOVEMBER MONTHLY MEDAL

The final elusive Yellow Monthly Medal Shirt for the year was up for grabs, with a keen field of starters all looking to improve their wardrobe by fighting out a stroke event.  Shock turned to amazement when our new Treasurer, Mark “Pusher” Wilson absolutely bolted from the pack to card a net 66.  The handicapper re-counted Marks card 5 times as he was sure that at least two holes must have been left off.  2nd place was a tight affair, with Louieee Didgeridooieee enjoying a 69, to pip Les Cook in a count back.  Good scoring guys.

NOMINATIONS FOR CLUBMAN OF THE YEAR

Nominations have now closed.  Thank you to all of those who took the time to respond, the winner will be announced at the trophy presentation night.

OCTOBER NEWS UPDATE

FOURSOMES CHAMPIONSHIP

Team United Spring disappeared for the day as very windy and showery

weather greeted the players in what is arguably the most

prestigious team trophy of the year, the Foursomes

Championship. (with a name like that, does anyone know

why it’s played in teams of two???)

Running out clear victors were Rosehills answer to Starsky

& Hutch “Team United” comprising of Derek Russell & Keith

Scrivens who went one better than their 2nd spot in the

4BBB two weeks back to card an impressive net 67.5.

2nd place went to the “fashion police”, Ray Reichard &

Peter Barret with a 70.5, while the “in form” swollen one

Hugh Letessier teamed up with the clubs new Treasurer

Mark Wilson carding an even par 72.  Probably a smart

move by Hugh to have the only man in the club with a

calculator in your team to work out their handicaps, as

Hugh's not the only           when Hugh & Mark added theirs together, they ran out of

cop on the beat.             fingers AND toes.

But Hugh’s talents did not stop there.  After the game he  took the plunge as a “virgin lucky ten drawer”, helping  Shane dish out the dough.  We are pleased to say he passed with flying colours……….well except for the fact that he didn’t return any of the winning numbers back for a 2nd chance and he kept on drawing numbers out for 10 minutes after we had actually run out of sheets.  But Shane seemed to think that it would keep him busy until all of the tokens had gone, so he let him go.  Nice to see a fresh face stepping in Hugh, well done.

CAPTAINS TROPHY

It’s one thing to be a good club Captain.  It’s another to run a great set of games through out the year, but to win your own trophy, well that’s taking things a bit too far!!!

Never one to back away from a competition, club Captain Colin Lane held on to win the Captains Trophy with a 69 in a count back (by only half a shot).  Level with him was the swollen one Hugh Letessier who is showing some form taking out 2nd, with our own Handicapper Bill McComb, making two “3 putts” in a round of 70 to narrowly miss out in 3rd spot.  Mind you, it’s kinda funny, but the CCR on the day was also 70.  Coincidence???

The problem we have now is how will Colin present his own trophy to himself at the wind up?  As it is he’s already bringing his work ute to take all his other trophies home.  Perhaps he could put this one on the front of the bonnet, Rolls Royce style.  Well played Colin.

4BBB STABLEFORD CHAMPIONSHIP

Players got a taste of Summer with 30 plus degree weather to test them in the Westate Equipment sponsored event.  The modified stableford scoring system allows for the best score of the two players in each team to be recorded on every hole.  Taking out the win with a club record 52 points were the paring of Les “Bling Bling” Cook and David (pssst wanna buy some steroids) Range who were 6 shots better than defending champs “Team United” being Derek Russell & Keith Scrivens with 46 points, who pipped Les Plowman and Dave “Robbo or is it Rolf” Robertson who had 45 points.  Well played gents.

Following the game the players enjoyed a BBQ down at the hall and heard “many” a story of how many Eagle chances Colin Lane had.  Impressive part was that he nailed one on the par four 2nd.

OCTOBER MONTHLY MEDAL

Glorious weather conditions greeted over 30 odd players who battled it out to try and win the elusive Yellow Monthly Medal Shirt, this time with a stroke event.  Leading the pack this month was David Range who carded a net 69, to win by 2 shots from a “fuzzy” looking Gary Cook who had a 71, followed by the Orange Biker, Les Eade with a 72.  Well done guys.

 SEPTEMBER NEWS UPDATE

PAGES PERFECT PERFOMANCE

MPx3

On a day threatened by something called the AFL Grand Final, it was pleasing to see 21 players turn up to try their luck in the “TBA” event, which turned out to be a round of Stableford.  Carl Andersson was punching the air with joy as he chipped in on the 15th to score his second Eagle for the year.

However, Martin Page Perplexed the Peripheral Performers to Place his Pictogram with a Perfectly Proportioned Performance scoring a Paragon of 46 Points.  Page Paralysed the Pedestrian Pretenders with his Proclaim to Prominence, Proving his Person to be 5 shots ahead of Les Cook, who scored well with a 41 and Peter Buttfield with 39 points.

In the end though, the handicapper Performed his own Parting Permutation by Plummeting Pages Handicap from 20 to 18.  To which Martin was heard to say “Puck”

OVER & UNDER 55’S STABLEFORD

The air was thick with the smell of liniment, grunts and growns were heard as the players stretched in their warm ups, hearing aids were on full and this was just the Under 55’s.  Yes it was that time of the year to separate the Men from the Boys, or should that be the Granddads from the Dads in the Over & Under 55’s stableford event.

It was hard to figure out just who was in what grade as many a tall story was being told about birthdates, John Trewick was even asking for a special Over 70’s grade so he could take home a trophy on his Business Class flight back to the UK next week, but through it all the best score on the day went to our own version of Con the fruitier, Vegi Dave, who carded a very nice 42 point to win the Over 55’s.  He was followed by Les (hells angel) Musgrave on 39 and the Swedish veteran, Carl Andersson was 3rd with 38 points.

In the Under 55’s, the swollen one himself, Hugh Letessier broke through for his maiden victory with 39 points in a count back from Don Burkes double, Steve Hopkins, with Mark (gotta put money in the birds nest to win it) Wareham who took 3rd with 38 points.  Well played by all.

 RIP JOHN COLLINS

John

It is with extreme sadness that we advise of the shock passing of our own Treasurer John Collins on Sunday September 9th from heart related problems.  For many years John has been a great clubman who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes.  He will be sadly missed around the club.  We pass our sincere condolences to his entire family.

It was fitting to see over 2 dozen club members both past and present attend a service for John at Saint Bridget’s Church in Midland on Friday September 14th.   Many of the club members wore their club shirts as a sign of respect and were proud to be asked to form a guard of honour after the service as the family prepared for a Private burial.  A minutes silence was also observed at the club before Saturday’s game.

PAR BOWL ROUND TWO

Eddy Lorenti has come from the pack to card a great round of +6 to score a two round total of +5 to win this years Par Bowl event.  Starting the day 4 shots back, even “Optimistic Eddy” would not have gambled too much on the result.  But with both of the half way leaders (Les Eade & Keith Scrivens) finishing the 2nd round all square, Eddy stole the show.  Carl Andersson also snuck up carding a nice +3 to take second in the overall comp via a count back from Les and Keith respectively.

For the record in the single day event, Eddy’s +6 could not be touched, but great rounds by Les Cook and Colin Lane who both carded +4 saw them fill the minor places.  Well done to all the players who fought it out to the finish.

PAR BOWL ROUND ONE

The half way leaders of this years Par Bowl, 2 week event are Les Eade, who carded yet another good round, with a +3, who won the day in a count back from a resurgent Keith Scrivens, followed closely by Gary Cook on +2.

However, with their current good form the two leaders have both sliced a shot from their handicap, so effectively they are starting the final day level with Gary, not to mention a number of other players who are within a few strokes, this means the pressure will be on for sure.

QUIZ NITE RESULTS

The 2007 Quiz Nite has taken place, with a fun night enjoyed by the 111 people who attended.  Competition was hot between the 16 tables, with a number of club “personalities” stacking their team with “ring-in’s” in an effort to take out the top prize.

Through all of this good humour prevailed, with a number of funny answers or interpretations on questions being challenged.  No more so than the boys from TL Engineering, who were an entertaining bunch.

There were some fantastic prizes on offer too, including top quality Wine, Restaurant & Eatery vouchers, free rounds of Golf, passes to the Races, Trots, Greyhounds, Mini golf, the Maze, Morley Bowl, along with Chocolates, Drinks, Golfing accessories and apparel, Caps, Bags, Alarm clocks, Shaving products and so much more.  Every player got a prize of some description, even if it was just the “in-flight” meal & drink (courtesy of Macca’s) served by our airline hostess Jessica, who did a great job.

Two major raffles were held on the night seeing the lucky winners take home some of the great prizes, this included the Adult Raffle, which had $400 worth of “Goodies” ranging from Dinner, Wine, Chocolate to…………well we can’t print what was in the Passion pack, but needless to say, the winner looked very happy!!!

Many many thanks go to people directly involved with the running of the night and also those club members who used their family, friends & contacts to provide prizes, including Carl Andersson, Glenn Andersson, Gary Cook, Kevin D’Cruze, Lou Digregorio, Steve Hopkins, Danny Joshi, Colin Lane, Kevin Pearce, Dave Robertson, Derek Russell, Keith Scrivens, Shane Seward, Les Shackleton, Kevin Stonehouse, Grant Stokes & Dave Thompson.  Please support the Quiz Nite Sponsors   throughout the year.

Finally a big vote of thanks to those 111 people who turned up to support the club, we really appreciate it.

The full results are listed below.  Well done to all those who took part, especially the top three, with a special mention to the “7-ups” who came from last half way through to finish 12 places higher in 4th spot.  In the event of a tie, the team who scored the most points in the final round finished higher.

SEPTEMBER MONTHLY MEDAL

A good field of players turned out in the quest for the coveted Yellow Shirt, with this month’s comp being played as a Stableford event.  Les Eade steered his orange mean machine and indeed himself round the course to win the day with 42 points, closely followed by Pius O’Keefe who returned to form 41 points to take 2nd in a count back from Eddy Lorneti.  Nice scoring gents.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND THREE (Final)

The Pressure was on in all Grades for the 3rd and Final round of the Club Championships, with the event being run & won as follows:

Colin Front A-Grade and overall Club Champion for 2007 is Colin Lane with 3 great rounds,

 scoring a total of 233.

He was 14 shots ahead of Ray Reichard, who did very well to hold off Mark

 Wareham by a shot.

Del A-Reserve Champion is Derek Russell, who came from 4 shots back to post an

 80, giving him a total of 254.

This was just 2 shots ahead of a consistent Grant Stokes who posted scores of

 85, 85 & 86 to take out 2nd, with Richard Church a further 8 shots back in 3rd.

Robbo B-Grade Champion is Dave Robertson.

In his first year with the club, Robbo carded a very good total of 274 and

maintained his 12 shot advantage over Les Shackleton who was a further 11

shots ahead of 3rd placed Alan Green.

Lou

C-Grade Champion is Lou Digregorio, who carded a total of 288 to come from

the clouds, winning a see-sawing battle that was decided on the 18th.

He won by a single shot from Hugh Letessier who put up a great effort, with Pius

O’Keeffe hanging on 3 shots back in 3rd.

Final scores are on the Results page.  Well done to all of the players.

In the Handicap event for the day, a shock result saw Derek Russell score a net 63 to beat an unlucky Shane Seward who must have thought he’s stitched up the event with a 66. Third spot went to Kevin Stonehouse with a 70.

To add insult to other player’s injuries, Derek even complained about how slow “other” groups were.  In particular that of Lou and the gang.  At one stage they were almost 3 fairways back.  It was such a distance that a Qantas jet pilot thought it must be the runway and lined up the gap to land!!!!

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND TWO

Any early blast of Spring was on hand for the 2nd round of the Club Championships.  Perfect conditions saw players make their move in the various grades.  Colin Lane is still holding onto top spot in A-Grade, but Ray Reichard is playing out of his skin to be only 6 shots behind, hitting two net 67’s in a row.  On paper it comes down to these two players.

A-Reserve is interesting with a number of players in contention.  Grant Stokes has been consistent with two Gross 85’s to see him lead by 3 shots over Vegi Dave, who moved up the pack also hitting 85.  Derek Russell & Richard Church are one and two shots further back and will be knocking on the door.

B-Grade see’s Dave Robertson a lonely 12 shots clear, but as we know, the event is played over 3 rounds, so don’t write off Les Shackleton who was striking the ball nicely with his infamous K-Mart 3 wood!!!

C-Grade is closer, with Pius O’Keeffe leap frogging Lou Digregorio to lead by 6 shots.  Another big mover is Hugh Letessier (or huge left testicle as we like to call him. When he's not around that is) The swollen one had a 90 off the stick to be tied for third.

Total scores to date are on the Results page.  Good luck to all players in the final round.

Steve Hopkins (or Hoppy as he is also known) jumped away with a fine victory in the Handicap event for the day.  A dynamite putting display saw him card net 66 to win by a shot over Hugh Letessier and Pius O’Keeffe who both had impressive 67’s. (followed by a visit from the hadicaper)

The round of the day though came from Gary Cook, who experienced the highs and lows of the game. He ended with gross score of 109, which included a 10 on a par 3 (including 8 putts) and a 14 on the last hole.  But to make sure he came away with something, he pocketed his second Eagled in 3 weeks!!!  This time on the 15th and through all of this, we were told that not a club was thrown or a bad word spoken.  Well done Gary, it just goes to show it can happen to the best of us.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND ONE

After heavy rain the day before, a perfect day greeted the 33 qualified players who were trying their luck in the first round of the Annual Club Championships.  Four grades being: A, A-reserve, B & C grades are up for grabs over the 3 weeks of stroke, which is played off scratch in your grade.

Some handy scores came in, but in most grades nearly all of the players are still in touch and the pressure will be on in rounds 2 & 3.  Leaders so far are: A Grade Colin Lane with a 75, A-Reserve Grant Stokes with an 85, B Grade Dave Robertson with a 91 and C-Grade Lou Digregorio with a 93.  For a full run down check out the Results page

However, each week players are also trying to take out an overall handicap game as well.  In round one the winner of this specific game went to Ray Reichard, who shot an impressive net 67.  He was so confident he actually over stated his score as a 69 (unless he had other thoughts on his mind), but the handicapper spotted the error and has corrected his card.  He was a 3 shot winner over Colin Lane, who pipped Grant Stokes in a count back.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP BRUNCH

The highlight of the year trophy wise, the Club Championships, which is played over 3 weeks will commence on Saturday August 11th, with a bacon & egg roll plus tea or coffee supplied free, courtesy of the Rosehill course management.  The food will be available from 11.00am, please see the ladies behind the counter.  We thank the Rosehill course for this kind offer.

MR POTATO “ED”

Mr Potato Head Fresh news has arisen further to the recent article below on our very own

celebrity gardener “Mr Potato Ed”-dy Lorenti.  Not only did Ed grow

“the big one” but he also appeared on Radio Station 1080 6IX with

Johnny Young!!!  Did anyone hear it???...................We didn’t think so.

Problem now is that “Big Eddy” can’t stop bragging about it.  Poor

Danni Joshi had his ears chewed off last Saturday on the course to the

point that he now knows that if Eddy hadn’t have cut off the stem so far back at Harvesting, it would have weighed over 12.3 kg and not the official 11.9kg.

But there is a backlash in the club.  Our original Garden Guru, Steve (Don Burke) Hopkins is very jealous and also Vegi Dave has now downgraded his contract with Eddy, stating that the arse has dropped out of the Sweet Potato business and the best he could offer was only $2.00 a kilo.  Eddy is weighing up what to spend the $24.00 on.

AUGUST MONTHLY MEDAL

Fantastic clear winter conditions greeted the field for the Par event to see who could win the coveted yellow shirt.  Mark Wareham snuck in with a +4 to win in a count back from Gary Cook, whose form has seen him drop a shot, which has put him into A grade for the upcoming club championships.  Carl Andersson came in third with a +2 in a count back from 6 other players on the same score.

JULY NEWS UPDATE

PLAYER’S COURSE ETIQUETTE

Players Safety & Etiquette has been called into question of late, with a number of complaints being received by the Committee, prompting the President to issue the statement below

Dear Members, the committee have had complaints re unacceptable behaviour on the course in the form of members hitting up and the throwing of clubs.  All of this is totally unacceptable and any future complaints will be dealt with action against the offenders.  Although we are a social golf club we play by the rules of the game which also covers course etiquette and a code of Conduct.  Please respect all players on the course and let’s enjoy each others company and our golf game.  Good safe golfing guys.

GREEN FEE’S TO RISE

Unfortunately, we have been advised by the Rosehill Course that the Green Fee’s are rising by $2.00 a game.  This is the first increase in a number of years.  Therefore, effective 4/8/07 the weekly cost will now be $27.00.  This is still inclusive of the same ball fee amount which help’s to pay for the prizes on offer each week.

BOOKINGS / CANCELATIONS / NO SHOWS

Guys, just a friendly reminder that we have to confirm exact numbers of players with the Rosehill Course by Noon Thursday.  If you do not book in via John Colins, then just turn up on Saturday and the course is full, you may not be guaranteed a game.

On the other hand, if you have booked in and don’t show, then the club (i.e. you) are liable for the green fee’s payable to the Rosehill Course.  While this may not seem fair, it is out of our hands as a club (we of course will not be asking you to pay the club ball fees for that week).  Therefore, if you think that the weathers not going to be good and you don’t want to play, you will need to make your decision and advise John Colins by 11am Thursday or pay the green fee’s.

STABLEFORD BOWL (Round Two)

With the threat of nasty weather subsiding, better conditions greeted the players who turned up to fight out the 2nd and final round of the Stableford Bowl.

In the individual game, for the first time this year we had a 3 way tie with all players scoring 40 points.  The count back saw Richard Church take the day from Jim Plowman, then Jerry Mercer.

Therefore, congratulations go to Jim Plowman who took out the overall 2 week event with 78 points from a fast finishing Richard Church with 76 points.  Very consistent golf guys, well done.

EDDY’S MONSTER POTATO

As spotted recently in the Midland Reporter (picture by Matthew Poon)

  EddySP

Novice gardener Eddy Lorenti with his 11.9kg sweet potato

A Novice gardener has grown an enormous sweet potato in a Midland backyard.  Weighing in at 11.9kg the monster tuber astounded Eddy Lorenti, who said he did not have much of a green thumb and this was his first attempt at growing vegetables.

Planted in December on advice that it was an easy thing to grow, Eddy had no idea of the size until he started digging it up.  What makes it even more astounding is all the sweet potatoes grown in the same garden are of a normal size.

Rumour has it that Vegi Dave was seen the other day talking to Eddy with Contractual Documents in his hand.

STABLEFORD BOWL (Round One)

Lousy weather conditions greeted the brave souls that turned up for the first round of the Stableford Bowl event.  The first nine holes saw plenty of rain, which made scoring tough.  The 2nd nine was a bit better, allowing Jim Plowman to score 38 points to be the half way leader.  He pipped Steve Hopkins in a count back, with Lou DiGregorio bringing home 3rd with 37 points.  However, just to make things a bit harder, Jim & Steve are now minus a point each on their handicaps after their good form.

Round two will decide the overall champion next week, but those who feel they are without a chance to take out the big one should still turn up as they can win the days event and may pick up a ball or three.

THE PRESIDENTS TROPHY

What do Balinese Prison's and Rosehill Social Golf Club have in common?  They are both home to Drug Dealers who have taken their game as far as it can go.

Drug Dealer Mark That’s right, our very own Drug Dealer, (ex Pharmacist)

Mark Pusher Wilson has won the now renamed

President Fidel Castro Trophy, Shooting up a +6 in

the par event to feel the Ecstasy of victory.

Normally renowned for making a Hash-ish of his game,

the player affectionately known as Opium (Slow working

dope or Adelaide Crows fan) Smack-ed the little white

ball at Speed around Rosehill to Crack his best Score

ever, he was as smooth as Ice on his Trip around the

course to become the Hero-in the club house.

For once his game didn’t go to Pot as he put the Acid on the rest of the field, the best of whom were Alan Prodger who took 2nd with a +5 followed by Les Shackleton with a +3.

Well done to all three players on a day when no one could believe that Pusher Wilson could get so High.

JULY MONTHLY MEDAL

A 9 under par net 63 would have to be one of the rounds of the season to date.  This is what David Range hit to romp in with July’s Monthly Medal.  He was 5 shots clear of 2nd placed Colin Lane who had a 68 and Les Eade with a 69 who took 3rd.

DG Whoops

David’s sensational round has come at a price though, 2 shots from his

Handicap!!!  No one was more surprised than David, as this the picture

 showed.

David wins a Rosehill shirt, so that means he can now be in

the club uniform, well, that is after the last game of the season when we

will present the shirts to all of the monthly medal winners.

  TWO shots!!!

JUNE NEWS UPDATE

EDDY’S STEADY HAND

Nice One Eddy We recently received a very interesting email from Maria Lorenti,

wife of long standing player Eddy Lorenti.  It reads as follows.......

I’d like to thank the club for giving Eddy that bottle of Port for his birthday.

Too bad I did not taste it, unless I was prepared to lick the dinning room

floor!!!  Yes he dropped the bottle.  But thanks anyway.  Regards Maria.

Nice one Eddy!!!

MATCHPLAY FINAL

The club is hoping to secure sponsorship from Marlboro after Colin Lane won the Matchplay final with a narrow 2 & 1 victory over Shane Seward.  The guys must have smoked at least one pack each on the first nine alone during the nip and tuck battle as the pressure was on.

Both players turned on some great golf with the lead changing hands on various occasion, but it was Colin who prevailed.  Congratulations to both players on a worthy final.

STROKE EVENT

In the stroke event for the rest of the players while the Matchplay final was on, Grant Stokes made it 2 wins in 2 weeks with another great round of net 66.  He squeezed out Derek Russell in a count back, with recently injured Richard Church hitting form with a 68 to take 3rd.  Nice scoring guys.

HARLEY CABINETS STABLEFORD EVENT

Some of the clubs newer members showed a clean par of heels at the Annual Harley Cabinets Stableford Challenge, sponsored by Colin Lane.

Grant Stokes led the way for his maiden win with 41 points, one shot better than this month’s consistent performer, Dave Robertson.  However, our handicapper has done some of his best work bringing Dave back to earth, adjusting his handicap yet again to 19 after being on 24 a few weeks back.  Grant too has also dropped to 15.  From the “old brigade” 700 plus gamer, Steve Hopkins came in third with 37 points.

Although the weather wasn’t the greatest, 31 players turned up for the game, with the majority of them going down to the hall after for a BBQ courtesy of Harley Cabinets, who we thank greatly for their constant support.

MATCHPLAY SEMI FINALS

Colin Lane and Shane Seward will face off in the Matchplay Final on June 30th after both had convincing victories in the semi finals.  Colin hit a magnificent 71 off the stick (1 under par) to beat Brian Hughes 7&6.  Shane, who had medical permission to use a cart after an accident at work, beat Jim Walker (or should that be John) 6&4.

PAR EVENT

While the matchplay semi’s took centre stage, the rest of the club played out a Par event.  Bragging rights went to Mark Wareham who came in with a nice +6, two shots clear of Kevin (pretty in pink) Stonehouse on +4, who just pipped Eddy Lorenti in a count back.  Well done to all three players.

CARL JOINS THE EAGLE CLUB

Eagle Carl gutts Rosehill has it's latest Eagle Club Member after Carl Andersson

(with two esses from Sweden yah) sunk a 2.5 metre Eagle putt

on the 9th (his last hole)

The crowd went wild.  Well the 3 blokes with him got excited,

so much so that they had to sit down afterwards to get their

 heart rates down.

Congratulations to Carl on getting his first ever Eagle at the club!!!

MATCHPLAY QUARTER FINALS

All four matchplay games went down to the wire recently.  Colin Lane beat Les Eade, Brian Hughes beat Derek Russell and Shane Seward beat Peter Buttfield.  All games had the same result of "1 up", with Shane winning on the 19th!!  In the other game John Walker pipped Glenn Andersson 2 & 1.  Well done to all 8 players for fighting it out to the end.

RUSSIAN STABLEFORD

While the matchplay games were on, the rest of the club enjoyed the modified "Russian Stableford" teams event.  The format allows each team to mulitply their individual stableford score, by their partners score, so potentially some big points are on offer.  The winners on the day (in a count back) were the "Dream Team" of John Trewick & Mark (Ned Kelly) Burich, these pair of "big hitters" scored 79 combined points.  They got the win from Gary Cook & Al Green, with Eddy Lorneti & Martin (Monster) Page coming home third with 77 points.  Martin also took out the "B Grade" longest drive, out hitting the "A Grade" by a country mile.  An enquiry is underway!!!!

JUNE MONTHLY MEDAL

BC“Uncle” Bill Curtis (a.k.a. FONC) won in a count back over Brian

“Hollywood” Hughes to take out June’s Monthly Medal, which was

decided with a game of stroke.

Perfect playing conditions saw both these “veterans” of the club

card 69’s, with Jim Plowman one shot back in 3rd on 70.

Good numbers turned up on the day, with many golfers again staying

back to enjoy each other’s company plus a laugh or two.

RICHARD CHURCH HURT IN BIKE CRASH

Bad news this week after an unfortunate, blameless accident saw our own Richard Church receive a broken collarbone, amongst other injuries, after his bike crashed with a car.  We are told he is on the mend, but no doubt will be out of action for a while to come.  From all at the club, get fit soon Richard.

MAY NEWS

BANDITS RAID ROSEHILL

The peaceful surrounds of Rosehill Golf Course were thrown into turmoil at the recent Reunion Day, when Club Wielding Bandits raided the course.  The Locals didn’t know what hit them when these “Raiders” took all before them

Officials of the club identified them as Steve Mahoney, Dave Robertson and Jim Wyatt, who ran 1st 2nd & 3rd in the Stableford event.  Steve shot a 77 of the stick for 45 points, but as he was a visitor, he could not take the prize.  This gave Dave his second win in as many weeks, after “dropping the anchor” with his first 5 cards, he backed up last weeks 6th card victory (and loss of 2 strokes from his handicap) with a win on 38 points.  He was followed on the same score by Jim, who gave up his busy Lakeland’s schedule to show the lads how it’s done.  Third spot on the day went to Shane Seward, with an “honest” 37 points.

At a press conference, Handicapper, Bill McComb said “I thought I’d managed to get all of them, but a couple slipped through the net.  I’ve got them for next time though, just check the board”

In all seriousness, it was well done by the top 4.  After the game many of the guys enjoyed a sausage sizzle at the club house arranged by Jerry.   It was great to see some old faces back.  Let’s hope they don’t stay complete strangers for another 12 months.

HANDICAP CHAMPIONSHIPS (ROUND TWO)

A chip in on the 18th for a birdie was the difference which allowed Jerry Mercer to win this years Handicap Championship by one shot, following a late challenge from Lou DiGregorio.

The event which was held over the 2 weeks saw good numbers of players trying their luck.  In week 2, new member Dave Robertson carded a very impressive 66 (which by the way has caught the eye of the handicapper) to take out the round win by 4 shots over a fast finishing Lou, with “Uncle” Bill Curtis a further shot back in third.

Jerry Wins However, it was Jerry who held on with a nervous 75 added to his 69 the

week before, for a 144 total, taking out this major event.

Louie’s 145 will see both these “superstars” (their choice of words not mine)

names added to this years trophy!!!

"Who Needs a Putter"

says Chip in Champ Jerry

HANDICAP CHAMPIONSHIPS (ROUND ONE)

Vegi Dave has snuck up on Jerry Mercer to win round one of the Handicap championships.  On the day, a miscounted card gave Jerry the win with a 67 to take the lead at the half way stage. But a check by our Handicapper, Bill McComb confirmed that Dave (vegi) Thompson actually won the day shooting a 69 on a countback from Jerry who shot the same score.  Geoff Durrant was third followed by John Trewick who both carded 70’s going into the final round.  Although these four players hold the lead, a number of others are lurking in the wings ready to pounce should they slip up, so the event is still wide open.

MAY MONTHLY MEDAL

Richard Church Richard Church has shocked even himself by winning May’s Monthly Medal with

 an impressive +6.

He was two shots clear of 3 other player who tied on +4, with the count back

giving 2nd place to Eddy Lorenti, followed by Peter Buttfield,

with Carl Andersson just missing out in 4th.

A visably shocked Richard after his win.

APRIL NEWS

MATCHPLAY ROUND 1 & STABLEFORD

The first round of the Matchplay saw the top 16 qualifiers battling it out to make it through to the quarter finals in June.  There was a mixed bag of scores from a narrow 1 up to a 7&5.  Congratulations to the 8 winners on the day.

The current Results and Draw can be found by clicking on the Results link

The remainder of the field played a Stableford event which saw Eddy Lorenti win with a 38, 2 clear shots from Alan Green and Jim Plowman.  Well done guys.  However, the "main event" of the day (or at least that's what we were told) was the "We couldn't make it into the matchplay top 16 so we're gonna play our own matchplay game anyway, so there" Trophy, between Martin Page and Kevin Stonehouse.  For the record Martin won the game 5&4, but then lost the bet for a beer on the last 4 holes, so we'll call it a tie!!!

SPONSORS DAY

Steve Blake conquered all before him to win the Sponsors Day Par event with a fantastic +7.  This resulted from a 78 off the stick!!!

Kevin Stonehouse would have to be considered as unlucky to run 2nd with a +6 while Carl Andersson came 3rd with a +5.  Great scores from all of the top three.

It really was Steve’s day all round as he continued this form into his virgin Master at Arms duties, coming up with some entertaining stories to keep the guys amused.  Good job Steve.

MATCHPLAY QUALIFYING

A blistering 67 by Les Eade saw him take out the recent stroke event to qualify as “top seed” for the upcoming matchplay championships.  Well done Les.

Very importantly, please let Colin know if you can't play in any of the knockout matches which are being played on April 28th, June 9th, 15th and 30th.  This way we can offer the spot to a reserve player who can play the comp out, if successful.

The current draw can be found by clicking on this Results link

WEEKEND AWAY UPDATE

Don't forget to let us know your preferred choice of courses to play on the weekend away during November 9, 10 & 11.  We need your feedback ASAP, so as to secure the available spots.  Click on this special Weekend Away link now for more details

APRIL MONTHLY MEDAL

Richard Church took out the Monthly Medal for April with a tight fought, high scoring stableford victory. He scored 42 points and won on a count back from the very consistent Brian Hughes, with Jim Plowman was 3rd, no doubt catching the Handicappers eye with a nice 41.  A number of other players scored 38 or better.

Congratulations go to Steve Blake who put his name on a trophy as well, with an Eagle on the 11th, apparently the Pink tee’s he was using during the day helped???  One player who was desperately unlucky on the day was Jerry Mercer, who missed 3 separate Eagle putts.

John Trewick The biggest surprise of the day was John Trewick winning

 the 19+ Longest Drive!!!

Members are now calling for a urine sample to see if John

has been hanging out with Ben Cousins again.

Nice one John.

MARCH NEWS

BRIAN HUGHES SCORES HOLE IN ONE

Long standing Rosehill Social Golf Club member, Brian Hughes, hit the perfect shot during the recently completed Summer Season, a Hole in One on the par 3, 10th.  To commemorate this fantastic achievement, Alf Wettinger presented Brian with a special Trophy recently, as pictured below.

Hollywood Hole In One

Brian is awarded his Trophy from Alf, while Louieeeeeee looks on.

Brian, or “Hollywood” as he is also known, was naturally over the moon with his achievement and backed up his great form with a win in the Foundation Cup on March 24th.  No doubt the handicapper will be keeping a close eye on his future progress.

Nice work Brian, keep up the good scores.

OTHER MARCH WINNERS

PATRONS TROPHY

In other club news, Lawrie "Truck" Wishart took out the first major Trophy of the year by winning the Patrons Trophy stroke event by 2 shots with a very impressive nett 64.

MARCH MONTHLY MEDAL

Plus in earlier March events, Steve Hopkins (a.k.a. Don Burke) won the first "Monthly Medal" with stroke score of nett 70 and the "Dream Team" of Martin Page and John Walker (did I really just type that?) won the Combined Stableford event with 71 points.

BRING A MATE DAY

In the final event for March, Eddy Lorenti blazed home with a "Plus 6" to win the

"Bring a Mate" day.  He was 2 shots clear of Brian Hughes and Colin Lane.  After the game, most of the players enjoyed the first Social activity for the year, with the club providing light refreshments at the club house.  Thanks go to Jerry for organising this.  Don't forget the next Social event is the Sponsors day on April 21st.

Well done to all our winners so far.
