FEBRUARY NEWS UPDATE

SUMMER GOLF – THE SUMMER SEASON AMBROSE EVENT

What an absolute stinker!!!  Forecast 38 degrees and heading that way fast, with a nice slab of humidity thrown in for good measure.  What a way to finish off a very successful Summer Season.

Fear not, the intrepid players turned out in force in their chosen teams of four to fight for bragging rights for another 12 months in a fun game of Ambrose.

The winners on the day were “The Form Team” comprising of Captain Kevin “Cruiser” D’Cruze, Derek “Jack” Russell, Steve “Hoppy” Hopkins and Anthony “Da Tuppinator” Tuppin, with a brilliant net 57.

Coming in second by the narrowest of margins was the team of Derek Lees, Mark Grossetti, Ian Moore and Ray Close on 57.125.!!! (Dam that 1 less shot on the handicaps)

While in third place we had the team of Dennis Han, Manoj “TWFSL” Fernado, Alistair Day and Danny Joshi on 59.

Well done to everyone who participated over the summer comp season, it was a lot of fun, but a very special than you goes to “The Pres”, Kevin Pearce who has been the driving force behind this years Summer Season, with fantastic support from “The Cruiser” and Lawrie Wishart, who both helped out every step of the way.  Well done guys, your efforts do not go unnoticed or unappreciated.

The official results were as follows:

1st Kevin D’Cruze, Derek Russell, Steve Hopkins, Anthony Tuppin (57)

2nd Derek Lees, Mark Grossetti, Ian More, Ray Close (57.125)

SUMMER GOLF – THE SUMMER SIZZLER - STABLEFORD

Surprising, Superb, Sensational, Stupendous, Stunning, Startling, Staggering, Shocking, just some of the words to describe the Summer Sizzler, which was played with a game of Stableford last Saturday.  And what a fantastic prize up for grabs. $4,000. Yes 4,000!!!!!.....worth of golf vouchers. Still it was better than backing Sunshine Sally at Sixty Six to one.

With such a massive prize, the heat was on, with some very impressive scores carded on the day.  An honorary mention goes to Mr 901 games Steve “Hoppy” Hopkins who was unlucky to missed out on 43 points.

3rd place, for the second week in a row went to newcomer Derek Less with 44 points, while (would you believe) Derek “Jack’ Russell came in with 46 points (he’s still pinching himself to be honest) but far and away the best round on the day was the one and only Cruzer!!!! Kevin D’Cruze.  He had 21 on the front nine including 2 wipes and then 27 on the back nine for a total of 48 points.  The forensic department is running his drug tests now as his performance was well and truly enhanced.

Great scoring guys, although the Handicapper was talking about a possible 3 shot change for Cruzer……Ouch!!!

The official results were as follows:

1st Kevin D’Cruze (48)

2nd Derek Russell (46)

3rd Derek Lees (44)

CCR 42 (66)

Next week will see the final game for Summer 2010/11 and to celebrate the great mini season it has been, the club is holding a special Ambrose Select Team Event.  So get your team together now and book in via Kev before Wednesday night.  After the game there will be some food along with trophy presentations.

The following week, March 5th, will see the 2011 Winter Season kick off at 12.24pm.

SUMMER GOLF – RUSSIAN STABLEFORD

It was comrade teaming up with comrade, in search of the winner’s trophy in the Summer Comp Russian Stableford event.

No snow in sight, but once again windy conditions greeted the good turnout.  Results for the day saw an honorary mention going to The Pres and Truck (Kevin & Lawrie) with a combined score of 61 points, who missed out in a count back to third place getters Mark Grossetti and Derek Lees.

Runners up were the family affair of Les Eade and Steve Blake with 62 points.  But in an amazing result Brothers-in Law in arms Ray Close and Manoj Fernando blitz the field with 83 points.  That’s a massive 21 point victory (I hope I got given the right info).  Well played guys.

The official results were as follows:

1st Ray Close and Manoj Fernando (83)

2nd Les Eade and Steve Blake (62)

3rd Mark Grossetti and Derek Lees (61)

CCR was 70 (38 points)

Speaking of amazing achievements, we have to honour a fantastic effort by “Mr Consistent” Steve “Hoppy” Hopkins, who clocked up his 900th game last Saturday.  That really is amazing, congratulations Steve.

Throughout the 25+ years that Hoppy’s played at the club he has figured in more results than any other golfer we can think of.  Of course you don’t get to play 900 games of golf without a little support and the club (and Hoppy) has to say thank you to Mrs Hoppy, Fran for giving him so many leave passes.

SUMMER GOLF – MONTHLY MEDAL - PAR

February already!!!  The winter comp will be here before we know it, but in the meantime the intrepid summer players battle on.  Not too hot this week, but the wind made shot selection tricky to say the least.

The monthly medal was up for grabs and a keen bunch of guys took to the course.  This week however without Big Al (Alistair Day) who is recovering from a minor operation.  Hope to see you back soon Al.

A couple of honorary mentions go to Paul White & Jarrad Buirchell who both ran close with plus two’s, missing out in a count back to eventual third place getter in Steve Hopkins.

Runner up this week was the returning Mark Grossetti on +3, who got pipped in a count back to The Cruzer!!!, Kevin D’Cruze who took out the big prize.  Well played fella’s.

The official results were as follows:

1st Kevin D'cruze (+3)

2nd Mark Grossetti (+3)

3rd Steve Hopkins (+2)

CCR was 66 (+6)

JANUARY NEWS UPDATE

SUMMER GOLF – THE SUMMER CUP – STROKE (Round 2)

Stifling heat really made things hard for the guys this week in an effort to take out the major event of the summer season, The Summer Cup.

With Lawrie holding a handy lead from last week, there were still a number of players who stood a chance to chase him down.  One guy who gave it a good shake was Jarrad Buirchell who fired a 2 under 70 (that’s gross by the way!!!).  Apparently he had a windy on the day as well???

But Jarrad’s heroics wasn’t enough, with things did go down to the wire, where Ray Close put in a blinder to equal Lawrie’s total 2 game score.  Thanks to the count back system it was Ray that took out the big prize, with Lawrie being the runner up.

Well played guys, in what was very trying conditions.

The official results were as follows:

1st Ray Close (64)

2nd Jarrad Buirchell (64)

3rd Kevin D’Cruze (71)

CCR was 66

Summer Cup Result

 Winner - Ray Close

Runner-up - Lawrie Wishart

SUMMER GOLF – THE SUMMER CUP – STROKE (Round 1)

A real burst of sticky summer weather was on show to greet the great turn out for round one of the Summer Cup, played over two weeks of stroke.

Plenty of very good scores were on display, but none more that our very own “Pirate of the Caribbean” (Well Pirate of Bali) Lawire “Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, Shiver me timbers” Wishart, who literally stepped of the Ship the day before straight onto the golf course to card a sensational round of 61.   Well played Truck, your best effort for 15 years.!!!

Isn’t it amazing what a holiday can do for you?   Or was it something else?  We are advised from a very “reliable” source that Mr. Wishart was trying to get his land legs again and was seen rocking from side to side as he made his way down the fairways, still under the influence of sea sickness tablets and later failing a drugs test!!!

The match committee will be looking into this “enhanced performance” but it’s safe to say if he’s cleared, the others have some work to do to catch him.  Although the Handicapper (err that would be Lawrie) has reduced his by two shot, so the others are a little closer.

And the closest is runner up on the day Paul “Whitey” White on 67 and “TWFSL” Manoj Fernado who also carded a 67 to take third.  Would you believe that 5 players are sitting one shot back on 68.  Very close indeed.

So there is a lot to play for but the big question is, can Captain Blackbeard Wishart keep the chasing pack at bay, once he finds his land legs again?  Best “batten down the hatches” next week, as there could be a storm brewing.  J  Good luck to all those in the running.

The official results were as follows:

1st Lawrie Wishart (61)

2nd Paul White (67)

3rd Manoj Fernando (67)

CCR was TBA

SUMMER GOLF – MONTHLY MEDAL – PAR

Great conditions greeted the guys for an early morning round of Par in search of the monthly medal for January.

And to match the great conditions we saw some great scoring, with the top 3 all coming in with +5, which meant stand in handicapper Alistair had his work cut out for him as he worked through the count back with his first week in the hot seat, while Lawrie suns himself in Bali.

However, Alistair successfully did the business and in first place was “Mr Reliable” Steve “Hoppy” Hopkins, who took out yet another victory (how may is that now Steve?)

Runner up was the big hitting Jarrad Buirchell, followed by Kevin “Cruzer” D’Cruze in third. Well played guys.

Unfortunately things didn’t go as planned for all of the players on Saturday, with ‘The Pres” Kevin Pearce getting into trouble on the short par 4, 15th.  As can be seen, his tee shot left him with a very “interesting” 2nd shot.!!!

The official results were as follows:

1st Steve Hopkins (+5)

2nd Jarrad Burichell (+5)

3rd Kevin D’Cruze (+5)

CCR was TBA

Next week is the Big One with the running of The Summer Cup, played over two rounds.  As always don’t forget to book in via the Pres by Wednesday night.

Now for a special notice: Robbo heads overseas next weekend for an extended tour of duty in Thailand.  He wants to try and catch up with his mates before he fly’s out, so those who can make it, we’ll be getting together at the Woodbridge Hotel in Guildford this coming Wednesday, Jan 19th at 6.30pm for a meal, drinks and to say “Bon-Voyage”.  Please call Robbo on 0402-732-780 to let him know you’re coming so he can book the tables.

SUMMER GOLF – THE NEW YEAR CUP - STROKE

What a great turn out for the very first game on 2011.  Most of the regulars were there along with some very rare sleepy faces plus a few new comers.

As promised, the Pres put on a perfect morning (weather wise) and the competition was fierce as players teed off in search of the New Year Cup with a game of stroke.

Coming out in first place was the “Pint Sized Powerhouse” Ray Close, who shot a fantastic 64, being pushed all the way by the still in form but “injured” Adam Angry Andersson who pulled a back muscle two thirds of the way through the game but soldiered on in that true Viking style, to post 66 and take 2nd spot.  Third place went to “young gun” Jarrad Buirchell also on 66.  Great scoring guys.

A special mention goes to new comers Derek Lee’s who played his first game including 2 birdies in a row if you don’t mind.!!!  Joining him was Ian Moore who had his second game with us and just fell over the line with a lazy 75 off the sick!!!  Well played guys. J

The official results were as follows:

1st Ray Close (68)

2nd Adam Andersson (66)

3rd Jarrad Burichell (66)

CCR was 66

Next week is the Monthly Medal event, so don’t forget to book in via the Pres by Wednesday night.

DECEMBER NEWS UPDATE

SUMMER GOLF – THE CHRISTMAS CUP - STROKE

One of the major Trophies was up for grabs on Saturday, with the running of the Christmas Cup with a game of stroke.  Another good turn up tackled early windy conditions and some impressive scores were posted.

Top of the list was the “in form” Adam Angry Andersson who came in with 66.  He was 2 shots clear of TWFSL Manoj Fernando on 68, who need a count back to pip Les Eade who took out third.  Well played guys.

Also congratulations to Hoppy who bagged yet another Eagle.  This time on the 11th.  Nice one Steve, how many is that now?

In other events on Saturday, club champ Jarrad Buirchell turned tree fella when he went club hunting as can be seen in the picture below.

Thanks to our “on the spot reporter” Alistair who took the shot and also advised of the drama as it unfolded.   Rather than spice the story up, we’ll let you read Alastair’s eloquent report.

The club was placed in the tree by Jarrod himself as a spontaneous gesture of dissatisfaction with a series of wayward shots he played on the eighteenth.

His original plan was to leave the club there, as according to him, that's where it deserved to be.

However, he was shortly of a different mind, probably motivated by the cost of a replacement club, resulting in the acrobatic demonstration pictured.

I could have assisted, however I decided that my responsibilities as assistant secretary obliged me to record the event for posterity.

We did, however, wait for Jarrod to calm down before we showed him the picture.
J

Nicely written Alistair. (and for those of you who need an explanation………..Jarrad spat it)

The official results were as follows:

1st Adam Andersson (66)

2nd Manoj Fernaqdo (68)

3rd Les Eade (68)

Finally with Christmas and New Year both falling on a Saturday this year, there will be no games until Saturday January 8th, so don’t forget to book in via the Pres by Wednesday night January 5th.

And from everyone at RSGC, have a very Merry Christmas and a Fantastic New Year.  Stay safe and we’ll see you in 2011.

SUMMER GOLF – AMBROSE PAIRS

Mate teamed up with Mate for Rosehill bragging rights last Saturday with a game of Ambrose Pairs.  It was pleasing to see good numbers turning out again, this time with much warmer conditions than last week.

And what a combination we had to take out the win.  A couple of “youngsters” in Jarrad Buirchell and Louieeeeeeee DiGregorio blitzed all before them, coming in with 58.5 points.

I am reliably told (by Lou) that the reason for their win was due to Lou’s short game heroics.  Apparently he chipped in for an Eagle on the 15th!!  (wonder whose drive they took?)

Well done Lou, it’s good to see you “carrying” Jarrad around the course :-)

Second spot went to the Andersson Vikings.  Carl is clearly “back with a vengeance” but I’m also told that Adam was keeping him on the straight and narrow.

Third spot went to Cruzer and the Tuppynator (Kevin D’Cruze and Anthony Tuppin) scoring 66.5 points.

The official results were as follows:

1st Lou DiGregorio & Jarrad Buirchell (58.5)

2nd Adam & Carl Andersson (61)

3rd Kevin D’Cruze & Anthony Tuppin (63.5)

Finally we had a visitor, Ian Moore, who came along for a hit.  A rather impressive hit it was too, with 79 of the stick.  Obviously setting the bar very high the first time out.  Hope you enjoyed it Ian and that we may get to see you again.

Don’t forget to book in via the Pres by Wednesday night for next week’s game

Jarrad & Louiee                                                               Cruzer and the Tuppynator
The Swedish Superstars

SUMMER GOLF - STABLEFORD

A healthy turn up wiped the sleep from their eyes to try their luck in the first day of Summer golf for season 2010/11.

The Pres tells us that....

T
he players teed off at the new time of 7-12 in perfect weather for the first week of Summer golf, the game was Stableford and its was the monthly medal as well.  We are please to say that we now have sponsorship from the Burswood park board to cover the summer season (thank you).

The scores were hot with the nearest the pin winners being in Steve Blake, Les Eade, Hoppy and Carl (welcome back to the Viking)

Results were close as follows:

1st Alistair Day on 42 points

2nd Mark Grosetti on 41 points

3rd Steve Blake on 40 points

It was great to see the enthusiasm all the players showed, and that’s what it’s all about.  One problem however, there was a complaint about 1 group who went around the course SINGING Beatles songs all morning!!!.  Problem being they were all singing a different one?

Next week’s game is a 2 man Ambrose select event, so don’t forget to book in by Wednesday night

Cheers

The Pres

Finally as the Winter 2010 season draws to a close after Saturday nights wind up, there is one more thing coming up and that is

NOVEMBER NEWS UPDATE

THE PHIL KLAUS TROPHY - AMBROSE

So the final game day of winter 2010 has rolled around and with it came the fun Ambrose event, when even more bragging rights are up for grabs.

This year there were some keen combinations, but rising to the top again were the team of DILLIGAF who posted some absolutely ridiculous score to run away with the trophy.

After the game, the Pres presented some of the season’s trophies and monthly medal shirts and it was pleasing to see most of the winners there to collect, including a special shirt for Alan Prodger who is about to tick over game 500.  All the smiling faces can be seen below, even Killer!!!

Don’t forget next Saturdays Wind up Dinner and Presentation Night when we will be giving out the Major trophies for the year.  Pre dinner drinks start around 6pm for those keen enough and the entree gets underway a little later.

Once again don’t forget the AGM on Wednesday December 8th 7.00pm Bellevue RSL club Purton Place Bellevue.  We ask that you do your best to attend and get behind the club.  The RSL club is the same venue as the quiz night and is fully licensed.

THE PRESIDENTS v CAPTAINS - MATCHPLAY

The threat of stinking hot weather kept a few at home, but those who turned out for the annual Presidents v Captains Matchplay event were pleasantly surprised by warm but comfortable conditions.  So no excuses for not giving their best as two dozen or so players were divided into two groups to represent their respective “leader”.  And for the first time in many years it was the Presidents team who came out on top with a decisive victory and bragging rights.

After the game the Robbo’s wish finally came true when he had, not one, but two barrel girls to help with the wheel of misfortune!!!  Michele and Sarah popped by to lend a hand, much to their surprise and Robbo’s joy (or shock) as can be seen.  They also doubled as “bucket girls” for the Master at Arms, extracting plenty of cash from the fella’s.  Thank you Ladies.

Seeing they were such good sports and as a return favour Michelle wanted to let everyone know about a business she runs called Partners & Friends, Perth's Premier Social Singles Services for over 35’s.  www.partnersandfriends.com.au  They also have golf days!!!

Finally as the Winter 2010 season draws to a close, there are a number of things coming up in the next few weeks that we want you all to be aware off.

SATURDAY DECEMBER 4th 6.30pm

THE WIND UP / TROPHY NIGHT

This year we return to the intimate Rosehill Stables located at the course near the back of the driving range at 6.30pm on Saturday December 4th.  The evening starts with pre dinner drinks and a “standing entrée”, followed by a sit down main course and desserts and is inclusive of drinks.

Entertainment wise we have a DJ lined up to get you dancing as well as the return (by public demand) of the Rosehill Players Revue, this year titled “Rosehill’s Got Talent”.  Tickets to the night are limited, so if you haven’t told us that you and your partner are attending, you must now email us at info@rosehillsgc.com ASAP.

WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 8th 7.00pm

THE AGM, BELLEVUE RSL CLUB PURTON PLACE BELLEVUE

THE NOVEMBER MONTLHY MEDAL - STABLEFORD

Now THAT'S a comb over!!!

What a day of great performances at the rescheduled November Monthly Medal.  A good field turned up vying for the last shirt up for grabs for 2010 and it was the Penguin, Steve “Ranger” Matthews who came up trumps.

A massive 46 points saw Steve take the prize from Peter Buttfield, who backed up his second spot by winning the prize for the least number of putts, being only 26.  Two shots back in third with 43 was the in form President, Kevin Pearce on 43 points.

More prizes also went to Ryan “Killer” Bale who took out the birds nest on the 2nd hole.  He nearly had to share the prize with Vegi Dave and Danny Joshi, but they both didn’t put the required funds in before the game.

It wasn’t really a big issue to Danny though as he actually chipped in on the 2nd hole to claim the bigger prize of an Eagle.  Not to be outdone, Steve “Hoppy” Hopkins also bagged an Eagle, but his one was on the 11th.

Finally, below we have an update on the weekend away.  Apparently the winners of the social Ambrose event weren’t very happy, as they didn’t get their smiling faces on the web site, so for all to see, here is the "Wet Dream Team" in all their glory.  Well played boys.

THE WEEKEND AWAY - STABLEFORD

Lots of golf, good company, plenty of booze, penthouses, dodgy prawns, poker, porcelain buses, hangovers, newspaper rounds, lost balls galore, bragging rights, the first ever free spin of the wheel, mega prizes, roast dinners and speeding fines.  These are just some of the things that made up one of the most successful weekend away events in years.

50 odd participants made their way to the south west to have some fun.......and that they did.

Things kicked off with the Ambrose event at Harvey, with some very “dubious” looking teams, all vying for the coveted invisible trophy.  Can’t be stuffed telling you who won, but needless to say, everyone will eventually find out!!! J

After the game and the obligatory few drinks it was off to Bunbury to see what the nights activities would bring.  We won’t go into any details, but let’s just say that there were some very sore (and ugly) heads walking around on Saturday morning.

None the less everyone got to the Sanctuary course for the official club Stableford fixture and coming out on top this year, with all his clubs intact, was Ryan “Killer” Bale who shot the lights out with 42 points.  A close second was Kevin “Cruzer” D’Cruze on 41, with Ray Close remembering to bring his golf clubs (unlike his playing cards) in third with 40 points. An honourable mention goes to Tuppy in 4th also with 40 points.

After the game, back at “Koombana Hall”, plenty of drinks were downed, along with a roast dinner and cheesecakes, plus the mega fund raising wheel, raffle, wheel, raffle, wheel, free spin wheel and finally another raffle.  Congrats to all who took home some cash, even if it was only $1.00 and well done to the Andersson “Vikings” for buying every second ticket.

Next week is the rescheduled November Monthly Medal.

OCTOBER NEWS UPDATE

OVER / UNDER 55’S TROPHY - STABLEFORD

Beautiful weather and yet another great turn out, this time to see who’s better the young guns of the old far.......fella’s!, with the running of the annual over and under 55’s trophy event, with a game of Stableford.

Surprisingly with the great conditions, scoring wasn’t as high as some of the blow outs we’ve seen of late, but the most important thing is that you’re the highest on the day and this year in the over 55’s it was Les Eaaaaaaaaaaaaaade who took the prize with 38 points in a count back from Kevin “The Pres” Pearce, with Vegi Dave Thompson coming home third with 36.

In the under 55’s it was Alby Hawkins who did the business with 41 points, two clear of Hugh Left Testicle (Hugh Lettesier) on 39, with Ray close showing some form with 38 points.

Next week is the annual weekend away.  As a result, there is no game at Rosehill.   Our regular booking has been cancelled until the following week when we return with the reschedules November Monthly Medal.

The draw for the weekend away games will be available on the web site later in the week.  Please check back later for details.

ROYAL ROSEHILL GOES TO ROYAL PERTH

A few weeks back, 4 of our guys represented “Royal Rosehill” in a charity Ambrose event at the very prestigious Royal Perth Golf Club.  While they didn’t come home with the big prize, they certainly presented well, below are some shots of the “Royal Family” including Ryan “Killer” Bale, Manoj “TWFSL” Fernando, Jarrad ‘Bieber” Buirchell and Kevin ‘Cruzer” D’Cruze.

THE CLUB CHAMPS FINAL ROUND – STROKE

A few very nervous players lined up with a chance to be their particular grades 2010 club champion and as always there were a few hard luck stories along the way, but in the end the winner of A Grade and overall club champion this year is young gun Jarrad Buirchell who absolutely bolted in.  A gallant runner up in A grade was “The Pres” Kevin Pearce.

In A-Reserve we had another runaway winner in Reece Ridge who shot the lights out with 79 to win in a canter and also take out the overall runners up spot.  Runner up in A-Reserve was a fast finishing Richard Church..

B-Grade had its moments with Ryan “Killer” Bale took the prize after getting away early but then nearly being hauled back in by eventual runner up Arie Venter.

The C-Grade deadlocked, eventually went Mark Grossetti’s way, with TWFSL Manoj Fernando having to settle for the runners up spot.

Well played by all the guys, with a special mention to Jarrad for taking out “the big one”.

The full table will be available later this week.

There were a few other winners though, with the least number of putt’s comp, held over 3 weeks going to Alan Prodger, but as a surprise we had a gift of a brand new putter for the player who had the “most” putts over the 3 weeks (cause we think they need a new one) and that was the smiling Dennis Han, pictured below.  Many thanks to Louieeeee for donating the prize.

Also in the daily comp, it was Reece Ridge who took the spoils with 62, from Alby Hawkins on 65 and Richard Church on 66.

Next week is the very popular Under/Over 55’s Stableford event.

THE CLUB CHAMPS ROUND TWO – STROKE - UPDATE!!!

The results are in and the table is posted showing how the contenders went on Saturday in round two of the club champs.

It makes interesting reading as the top 4 in each grade will be partners in the final round.

In A Grade, Jarrad Buirchell has a stranglehold on top spot with a 22 shot lead, with The Pres, Mark Wareham and Neil “Billy” Buscumb all in with a shout for 2nd.  Mind you, Jarrad has been known to choke when the heat is on, so you never know?!?!?!?

In A-Reserve things are really tight.  Anthony “Tuppy” Tuppin is one shot clear of Alan Prodger, with Reece Ridge one shot further back.  Steve Matthews and Richard Church are then level 2 shots further back, only being 4 shots from the lead.

B-Grade will be exciting with Ryan “Killer” Bale only one shot clear from Arie Venter, after his shock result last week, Robbo has moved into 3rd place, a further 4 shots behind with Super Swede Carl Andersson only on shot back

C-Grade is deadlocked, with Mark Grossetti level with TWFSL Manoj Fernando, they have a 10 shot break over Bikie Les Musgrave, with “DG”, Dave Gallop a further 3 shots back.

So as you can see a lot of guys have a lot to play for.  Please join us in wishing them all the best for Saturday.

THE CLUB CHAMPS ROUND TWO - STROKE

Moving day in the club champs saw some interesting scores posted but still leaving plenty to play for next week.  Full results and the two week total will be available later this week, so please check back on the results page.

However in the weekly game we had 3 big winners, as can be seen below.

Firstly Robbo took all before him (well in a count back) to win the major prize with a surprising net 68.  He pipped Carl “Super Swede” Andersson for 2nd with The Pres “KP” coming in 3rd.  Robbo also picked up the weekly side bet of $80 as well plus he fleeced the guys with his Wheel of Misfortune.

Our second big winner was Martin “grey beard” Page, who birdied 17 to take home $96 in the birds nest.  With any luck he can use the winnings to buy himself a decent hair cut plus a shave along with some Nicorette patches.

Finally the other big winner was Jarrad “Com’ on” Buirchell who had a day out with 74 “off the stick” which included not one, but two Eagles!!!.  Nice work boys.

Next week see’s the final round of stroke to decide the club championships for all grades.  Good luck to all those players in with a shake.

Don’t forget in 3 weeks we have the weekend away, starting with a social (but competitive) Ambrose game at Harvey starting at 11am.  Please arrange your own team but let Shane know who you are playing with as prizes will be awarded for this game on Saturday night.  On Saturday we have the official club game of Stableford at Sanctuary starting  at 11am.  Please wear your yellow club shirt for this game and stick around after the game for the club photo.

On Saturday night the club is providing a roast dinner and dessert, plus drinks for all attendee’s.  This will be held at the hall at the caravan park.  If you are a club member, your game fees and dinner will cost you $40.  For non playing members, game and dinner is $50 and for partners, cost for dinner is only $10.  Great value indeed.

For those really keen to play a 3rd game, Pinjarra is the venue for 18 holes.  Also starting at 11am.  This is purely a social game with teams organised by yourself when you get there.

Stay in contact with the web site as we bring you further details of the year end functions, including the last day festivities and the ever popular Trophy presentation night (Saturday December 4th), which will again (by popular demand) include another players review.

THE CLUB CHAMPS ROUND ONE - STROKE

The smell of liniment??  The shine of freshly polished clubs??.  New shoes glistening in the sun??.  Crisply ironed shirts??.  40 guys all looking serious??  This can only mean one thing.  The club champs are here again!!!

And it was a burst of Summer that greeted the many hopefuls as they set off in search of “The Big One”.........Club Champion.  A number of guys fancied themselves for this one, with bold predictions being made.

3 games of stroke over 3 consecutive weeks will decide the winners in all 4 Grades with the very best score being crowned as overall champ.  Each grade will use their Gross score for the champs, but there is also a weekly prize awarded for the best overall net score and the winner this week was a “young chap” who quietly went about his business, following a stint of surgery.  Yes John Trewick bolted in!!!.  The silver haired fox showed all comers a clean pair of heals with an amazing 65 net.

Not far behind was “Killer" (Ryan Bale) with 66 from Reece Ridge also on 66.  Well played guys, but the day belonged to “Little Johnny” as he also took home $38 in the Wheeeeeeeeeeeel of Misfortuuuuuuune, which I see is still costing us an arm and a leg J

In the Gross game, things are very close in most grades, with plenty of time to make up ground.  The full results per grade can be found by clicking here.  Good luck to all next week and beyond and remember never to give up on the prize as players have been known to hit a few high scores on the last day, particularly on the 18th.!!!  (We won’t mention any names)

A POSTCARD FROM DEREK

As some guys may know Derek’s been away on a little holiday.  He told us it was Canada, but it appears he flew home via Wales to take in some of the action at the Ryder Cup.

As can be seen in the picture, he was personally asked by Tiger to offer some putting advice!!

Apparently Derek told the former world number one, that he was taking way too short a time over his putts and that he needed to slow things down a little.  He told him “Just stand over the ball Tiger, close your eyes, concentrate and whisper to yourself repeatedly, Lawrie Wishart, Lawrie Wishart, Lawrie Wishart”.  J

Tiger was so impressed he asked for some more help in his quest to get back to #1.  So Derek gave him a copy of Robbo’s little black book.  That should “lift his game”.  Hey, it never hurt him before he got caught!!!

While we have your attention, we want to give a big thank you to
Danny & Sue for helping out with the web site,
while the regular editor had a sabbatical.

OCTOBER 2010 MONTHLY MEDAL

Week 31 of the season and thirty turned out for the October monthly medal. Robbo, Cruzer  and Alan Marson were back from their golfing safari in Thailand and by all accounts they all had a splendid ten days of full on golf!  Perhaps it was too much golf and they were burnt out and presented no threat to the top three on the day.

Players teed off in perfect weather that threatened with a weak shower in between but this just blew through and in all ended in a fine day for golf.

David Gallop was having a scorcher of a day and had it not been for  miss-cue off the tee on the 15th and a disastrous 18th would have been a running away winner. David relinquished the flag with a 64 net to a smiley “Angry” on a 63 net.

Adam Andersson (AAA) claimed his first medal shirt and you can be sure that there will be more to come before long. His form-book is beginning to look better after every game.

Trusty Louie D’Gregorio with a net 67 beat Alan Marson on a count back and both players are probably well set for their categories in the club championships that start next Saturday.

The course superintendant has promised some special attention to the greens so look out!.......see you all there next Saturday.

And for those who may be interested..................

SEPTEMBER NEWS UPDATE

PAR BOWL ROUND 2

Round 2 of the par bowl did not have all of the round 1 top contenders in the running. D'Cruzer's  +6 in round 1, was away which left Richard Church +6, Mark Grossetti +6, Steve Matthews+7 and Neil Buscumb +8 all in with a fighting chance.

Hugh Letessier with a +7 claimed the day after a countback from Steve Matthews. Steve Hopkins on a +5 managed to hold off Jarrad Buirchell and Peter Buttfield on a countback for third position and an honourable mention.

The overall  result confirmed Steve Matthews with an aggregate+14 as the Par Bowl winner for 2010. Hugh Letessier ‘s late charge put him at +10 and in even position with Jarrad Buirchell, Neil Buscumb and Steve Hopkins. The “big one” carrying away the runner up position on a countback.

Birdsnest on the 16th was won by Anthony Tuppin.

BILL McCOMB MEMORIAL DAY.  PAR BOWL ROUND 1

Thirty one players turned out to contest “Bill Day” and round 1 of the Par Bowl. The day marked our annual dedication to our late handicapper and life member Bill Mc Comb, and what a fine day it turned out to be!

The finish was tight for third place with Kevin D'Cruze +6 pipping Richard Church and Mark Grossetti, on a countback.

Steve Matthews snatched 2nd position with a +7 and can be considered unlucky not to take the side bet home.

Neil Buscumb whose notable absence over the last couple of weeks came in with a sensational +8 for  top honours. Unfortunately Neil had to make a dash after the game and couldn’t make presentation, but would be happy to know he also collected the money.

Notable mention goes to Les Eade who despite a broken thumb and a cast over his left hand stuck it out and played a good game

Golf box vouchers were presented to past winners by our illustrious president Kevin. To mention a few, Alan Marson, Les Eade, Jarrad "Justin Beiber" Buirchell and Ryan "Killer" Bale.

Next week is round 2 of the par bowl and good luck to those in with a chance.

MONTHLY MEDAL STABLEFORD SEPTEMBER 3RD

The footy gods kept the field down to a modest 24 players, challenging for the elusive-for-some gold jacket... err, yellow shirt, which seen the man with the cowboy hat, riding the Angry Hornet, Les "EEEEAAAADE" Eade pop himself onto the podium again, with 3rd place on a countback again! 42 points, which was also what our resident "Shady Man" Manoj Fernando scored, luckily plucking 2nd off Les, and starting to charge to the top of the handicaps board.

But the winner today with a gob-smacking 45 points, and a 69 off the twigs, was Jarrad "I like to beat all the pensioners" Buirchell! For goodness sake will someone snap his clubs! Martin page returned to the clubhouse, absolutely peeved! But, as soon as news of the Dorkers towelling up Hawthorn broke, frowns turned to smiles, and the clothes were coming off... as you can see! Also Kevin "Roach-Legs" Pearce extended the begger's hand, during the master-of-arms, and managed to pilfer loose change off the general public, who just trying to see thier kids get married! For goodness sake Kev, No-one is safe ! :)

AUGUST NEWS UPDATE

18 HOLES OF BLISS

Live a golfing day in the life of Ray, your local social golfer

In his sixties Ray had been playing golf for close to 40 years. Throughout this time as an avid golfer and through his air-force years when he played numerous events, he had been playing reasonable golf for a long time.

However, nothing much had happened in all this time until he finally put it together in such splendid form at the Rosehill Royal Golf Couse on that unforgettable Saturday in August 2010.

Playing in his social club in “Dullsville Perth” Ray put his lowest gross and net card ever in such memorable form.

Here’s how it went:-
1st Hole

Poor drive, into tree line between the fairway and the ninth green. Only possible shot is to hit it low between the trees and under the branches!! With 150 meters to the green not a great % shot. Comes off better than he hoped, finishing in gully before the green. A chip and a short putt PAR!

2nd Hole

The TEE is right up, Drive for green starts to hook and looks like its OB. Hits a provisional. Can’t see the first ball and thinks about giving it up when the group in front yell out that it hit the fence wire and reflected back in bounds- just off the fairway. Lob wedge in and drop a 15 foot putt, BIRDIE!!!

3rd Hole.

Hit green, 2 putts, done PAR!

4th Hole

Long  drive followed by a very nice fairway wood. Duff third pitch shot, get on for four, 2 putts,BOGIE!

5th Hole

Pull tee shot left just short of boundary fence. Ball lying in weeds scrubs it out just short of putting surface. Line to hole is up the slope and then downhill right to hole. Thinking he will lag it up and take four. It goes in, nice bit of luck. PAR!

6th Hole

The reliable fade doesn’t happen and he’s in the creek. DAMN! Take a drop hit to front edge of green putt to within a foot take a five. BOGIE!

7th Hole

Huge right hand slice off the tee. Can’t get back to fairway, so he hits a low back foot shot down towards the 5th fairway.  He is caught in the tree line Throws caution to the wind, hits a lob wedge over the trees. Comes off leaving a very long putt for par. The gods are smiling and in it goes.  PAR!

8th Hole

Another sliced drive onto 4th fairway. Second shot picks up the tree front side of green. Put a reasonable recovery on green but quite a way from the hole.” Bugger me”, he yells, as  it also goes in! PAR!!

9th Hole.

Long Drive hole, so once again throw caution to the wind and lays into it. Good shot.

Nice fairway wood to front of green but leaves the chip disappointingly short. Unsure  which way the putt will turn so gives it a belt, too hard.... but hits hole dead square pops up and drops back in. BIRDIE!!!!!

Result 39 for the nine

10th Hole

Nice tee shot but too long and over the green. Chip back on too strong  ball goes pass the hole and down to second tier. Uphill putt right of hole. Of course it goes in. Gods are still on his side. PAR!

11th Hole

Second shot ends up against the tree trunk of big Gum near the green. Duff shot just get the ball out on the next one. Chip on, drop putt, BOGIE!!!

12th Hole

Fairly straight forward PAR!

13th Hole

2nd shot through the green, ordinary chip back on  and  drops another long putt PAR!

14th Hole

Tee shot and two putts for PAR!

15th Hole

Another big slice put me  near trees at 16th tee. Put second shot 4 foot short of green but a nice Texas wedge leaves me close enough to save PAR!

16th Hole

Slices the drive again but it hits the trees and rebounds onto my fairway. No shot to the green as he’s way short of the corner. Figure he will try a trick shot and hook it around the corner, works down at the oval but not here, and he’s in the tree line between the 16th and 11th fairways. No real shot other than to run it under the peppy tree along the ground. Scoots  green and off the edge. Hopes to salvage a bogie but as luck has been with him all day, the ball hits the pin does a 360 and drops in. PAR!  PHEW!!!

17th Hole

Really nice dive but pulls the approach shot left into the trees next to the 16th TEE. It’s one of those days and he’s between the trees again, but this time  with a clear shot to the green. Nice up and down for a PAR!  Lucky, lucky………lucky in golf!

18th Hole.

It now dawns and he  realises that a birdie will mean he can PAR the back nine. Never has this happened to him in his whole golfing life!!!!!!!!!!!

Hits his drive with a fraction of the force. It stays on the fairway. It’s quite long, maybe there is some sense to the theory of swinging slow! Fairway wood stays on track leaving him a wedge into the green that lands about 10 foot short. He know it’s going in because they have all day. BIRDIE! His first ever 36 for a nine and his lowest ever Gross and Nett scores.

In his own words and to summarise the day by Ray “Golf is such a fickle game, you need a lot of luck to go with even the best skills that one might possess”

Thanks for sharing your memorable day with all those regular social golfers who are out there waiting for THAT DAY

A POSTCARD FROM GLENN ROSS

For those that didn’t know, Glenn Ross is a Primary school Principle and he recently sent the club a photograph of his latest employment location, which has been keeping him away from his beloved Rosehill.

Glenn’s latest place of employment (and golf club) is approximately 1,100 km from Kalgoorlie and is affectionately know as “The Never Never’s”!!!

The picture below shows Glenn using his students to help him look for his lost ball on a recent round. (and we complain about the rough at Rosehill)

For the record, the ball couldn’t be found, so he has to go back to the tee and play a belated provisional, which held up the groups behind, much to their disgust.

Remember Glenn, always hit the provisional before you leave the tee!!! J

Thanks for the photo Glenn.  We hope to see you back down the club before the year is out.

THE QUIZ NIGHT

Over 100 keen members, family and friends turned up to the Bellevue RSL hall to test their brain power against each other in the annual Rosehill Social Golf Club Quiz Night.

Competition was hot, with many “ring-ins” in the form of Professors, Teachers, and Doctors turning up to aid the “average” golfers in their quest.

Much fun was had with Table Quiz’s, Heads & Tails, Door Prizes, Raffles and Auctions Galore.  As always the guys at the club did not let us down, getting many fantastic prizes from some very generous sponsors and just about everyone went home with something.

The night wouldn’t be the same without such a great selection of goodies on offer, so a big thank you goes to everyone who helped out, either by getting prizes or helping set things up or packing things away.

In the main game the competition was very tight with a count back needed to separate the top two.  This year’s winner was club member Steven Matthews’s table of Noble Prize Winners, who scored 90 out of 100 (including their joker double up round).  Just missing out in 2nd were club members Hugh LeTessier and Peter Marriot, with their gang of Brainiacs and in third place much to everyone’s shock were the clubs young guns in Jarrod, Lyndon and Ryan (Killer).  Clearly it was the rest of their table who had the smarts J  Well played one and all.

WESTSTATE 4BBB CHAMPIONSHIP SELECT

A good turn out on a day of uncertain weather conditions was a pleasant surprise. Forty players took part in the championship with an interesting winning combination that the club has not
witnessed in quite a few years.

Father and son team, Greg and Reece Ridge ran away with the honours with 53 points on a count back from Mark Grosetti and Ray Close. Ridge junior is creeping fast up the ranks and looks to be headed for the “A” grade before long.

A player who is regularly in the frame, JB,(Jarred Buirchell) partnered by the also quite consistent Pres, Kevin Pearce came in third with 50 points.

Don’t forget that next week is also the quiz night. There will be no results and prize giving after the game. This will give players a chance to adequately prepare themselves for the 7pm quiz night start time.

Thanks to all members who have been very forthcoming with quiz night prizes. Don’t forget, if you can still get anything that can be used for a prize, please bring it down to the club before tee off.

Derek will be in before he proceeds to arrange the setup at the venue. The more we have in the way of prizes will make it a better result for all.

THE PRESIDENTS TROPHY - STABLEFORD

Hey something is not right here.  It’s one thing to be the President of the club and ensure that things are running well and that everyone is enjoying themselves, as well as trying your best on the course, which Kevin Pearce does nicely, but it’s a completely different thing to win your own bloody trophy.  That’s just plain rude!!!

But that’s what the Pres did on Saturday, with a blistering 44 Stableford points.  Kev kept his good form going to win the seasons most prestigious trophy on offer (just ask him).  Second place went to Mark (should have gone in the 10 buck bet) Wareham with 43, with Ray (who me) Close taking our third with 42 points.  He needed a count back from Manoj (TWFSL) Fernando and Carl “The Doctor” Andersson.

In other news Young gun Jarrad “Justin” Buirchell bagged yet another Eagle, this time on the 2nd hole.  Somebody stop him!!! J  We also had a couple of visitors in Chris Newton and Garry Herapath who got to experience Rosehill first hand (having heard all the hipe), we hope you enjoyed your game guys.

Don’t forget that next week is a Select event, so make sure you’ve worked out who your team mate is before you arrive.

Finally, the quiz night is just two weeks away, so make sure you lock your table in now.  It’s not only open to club members.  Your family & friends are more than welcome to make up the competitors with the maximum being 8 players per table.  If you can get anything that can be used for a prize, please do your best and bring it down to the club and give it to Robbo next week or Derek the week after.

MONTHLY MEDAL – PAR

Yet another beautiful winter’s day in paradise for the 40 odd players who tried their luck in search of the monthly medal shirt via a game of Par.

The weather must have had something to do with the scoring as it was sensational, with 3 players all scoring a massive +7 each.  The count back method was required to see Kevin D’Cruze unluckily miss out in third, from runner up Mark Wareham, but the winner on the day was “The Swollen One” Hugh Lettesier.

He was over the moon with his performance and jumped on the nearest chair to have his picture take (as can be seen on the front page).  He’s not called “Huge” for nothing. Well played guys.

Also we have a new club record in the “Wheeeeeeeeeel of Misfoooooortune”  Young Gun Jarrad spun up a “liner” but claimed it was really a $40+ pay out.  So Robbo offered him another spin for double or nothing, provided he could spin $32 of higher.  Being the gambler that he is, Jarrad couldn’t resist the offer and duly spun up $3, leaving him with the new club record of $0.

Next week is the “Presidents Trophy” with a game of Stableford.  Apparently this is one of the most prestigious events on the calendar (or so Kevin Pearce keeps telling us).  So bring your A game along.

JULY NEWS UPDATE

RIMTEC TROPHY - STABLEFORD

A great day, a good bunch of guys and a major trophy up for grabs with the running of the Rimtec Trophy with a game of Stableford.

Some very good scoring as well with honourable mentions to Adam “Angry” Andersson and Vince Shallcross both on 43 points, just getting pipped on a count back for third place getter Kevin “The Pres” Pearce.  The top two also needed a count back, with Martin Page taking second on 45 points from the winner Steve “Hoppy” Hopkins.  Well played guys.

STABLEFORD BOWL - FINAL

Fantastic winter conditions greeted the 40+ hopefuls in chase of one of the year’s major trophies with the running of the 2nd and final round of the Stableford Bowl.

With a number of players in contention, points scoring was high, with a count back being required to separate the top two in the overall event.

Coming out on top was Glenn Ross who shot a second round 44 to add to his 42 from last week for a total of 86 to take the overall win from an unlucky Steve Blake who shot 42 to add to his previous 44.  The count back always takes the last round played as the first deciding factor and it was this that got Glenn over the line.  Very close indeed and well played guys.

On the day it was Reece Ridge who broke through for his maiden win with a whopping 46 points to win 3 golf balls.  Glenn’s 44 saw him take 2nd with Steve’s 42 capturing 3rd.

In other news, the big jackpot bird’s nest has flown the coup.  Living up to his new job description, mine site master Mark “Ned Kelly” Burich flew in and then flew out with $113.  Sweet as Bro!!!

Don’t forget that next week is The Rimtec Trophy, which is sponsored by……….. you guest it, Rimtec.!!  Stableford is the order of the day and hopefully we will have a company rep there to join in the fun.

Finally, don’t forget the Quiz night on Saturday August 28th.  Tables are filling up fast, so contact Derek to book yours ASAP.  Also anything you can get in the way of prizes will be appreciated.  Ask your boss, your family and your mates to see if they can come up with something we can use as either a stand alone major prize or something that can be put towards part of a prize.

STABLEFORD BOWL - ROUND 1

Another favourite event is the running of the Stableford bowl, which is played over two weeks.   At the half way mark it is Lawrie “Truck” Wishart who is leading the way with an impressive 45 points.  He needed a count back however to hold off Mark Grossetti in second, with Steve Blake holding down third spot with 44 points.

Also young gun Jarrad Buirchell sunk yet another Eagle, this time on 12th.

On the social side, the wheel of misfortune was joined by a couple of raffles, with Neil Buscumb taking home a $50 Golf Box voucher and Jim Wyatt winning a $50 Liquor Land voucher.

HARLEY CABINETS DAY - STROKE

Well what can we say, it is Winter.  Cold, wet and windy conditions greeted the very good turn up for a game of Stroke, with many thanks to Colin Lane and his companies continual sponsorship of the Harley Cabinets Trophy.

Runaway winner on the day was Jarrad “Justin Beaver Eater” Buirchell who romped it in with a 65, including yet another Eagle, this time on the 12th.   He also had the honour of having club favourite John Trewick present him with the trophy as can be seen in the picture below.  Well played Jarrad.

Second place was taken out by our resident “danger man” Ryan “Killer” Bale, who carded a 68, one shot ahead of third placed man Neil “Billy” Buscumb, who needed a count back from the “Hirsute one”, David Gallop who both scored 69’s.

In other news Eddy Lorenti bagged the only birdie on the Birds nest hole.  Just one problem, he wasn’t in the comp!!!

And finally a further update on the new club record that was reached on the dreaded wheel of misfortune, after the unlucky Glenn Ross spun up just $2.00.  Well Kevin “Cruzer” D’Cruze spun up the ultimate prize on Saturday.  One whole dollar.  Congrats Cruzer J

MONTHLY MEDAL - STROKE

Cold but dry conditions made for a bumper turn out on Saturday for a game of stroke in search of the infamous Yellow shirt.  Once again some amazing scoring came into play, with Dennis Han having the ball on a string to card a net 63!!   How unlucky must Manoj (TWFSL) Fernando feel, also scoring a 63 but running 2nd in a count back. Third place was taken out by Steve Blake with an impressive 65.

Dennis wasn’t done there though, he also picked up $85 in the birds nest and then won $48 on the wheel of misfortune!!!  When you’re hot, you’re hot.

At the other end of the scale, a new club record was reached on the dreaded wheel, with the unlucky Glenn Ross spinning up just $2.00.

A couple of things to take note of guys.  Firstly, Bookings.  Last week we had 38 guys book via Kev by Wednesday night.  We then had 46 players turn up!!!  We have to lock our playing numbers in with the course management and it makes life hard if people don’t obey the club rule on booking in by Wednesday night.  It’s very possible that you could miss out on a game if you just rock up, so please do the right thing.

Finally as you will see below, the memorial bench honouring both Bill McComb and all of the other members who have passed on, is now in place between the 9th and 10th greens.  Next Saturday, the draw will be announced over at the bench when we will honour those that have gone before.  Please arrive a bit earlier and then head over to the bench area when the bell goes.

JUNE NEWS UPDATE

MATCH PLAY FINALS

4 very nervous players took to the course to fight for the Matchplay Championship & Plate Finals.  In the Championship it was Glenn Ross took the victory over Arie Venter 3 & 2 to claim the major trophy.

In the Plate event final it was Anthony Tuppin who had a convincing win over Les Eade 5 & 4 to take home some silverware.

Well played to all the guys and congratulations to the winners.

The remainder of the pack played a round of stroke, with some very impressive scoring.  Ryan “Killer” Bale took out the win with a 65!!!  Two shots further back was Peter Buttfield on 67, with Manoj Fernando taking out third on 68.

Next week is the July Monthly Medal and just a reminder that some food will be on after the game.

MATCH PLAY SEMI FINALS

Another perfect winters day saw over 40 guys turn out to witness the Matchplay Championship & Plate Semi Finals, with all 4 games going down to the last few holes.

In the Championship, Arie Venter pipped Dennis Han 2 & 1, with Dennis having to play half the game with a decent bruise on his arm after a wayward member of the public struck him, while he standing on the 9th tee.  The ball came from the 4th tee!!!

In the other Semi Glenn Ross had to fight hard to beat Shane Seward 3 & 2, meaning he will line up in next week’s Championship Final against Arie.

In the Plate event Anthony Tuppin did well to be Jarrad Buirchell 2 & 1, while Les Eade needed 2 extra holes to beat Alby Hawkins in a thriller.  So Les will line up against Anthony in next week’s Plate Final.

Good luck to all of the players.

As for the remainder of the guys, they enjoyed a game of Par, but were amazed at the results.   The captain gave an honourable mention to Derek Russell with +5 who ran 4th, but that wasn’t nearly enough to worry the eventual winner.  Even the "in form" Hugh Letessier wasn’t close with +6 in 3rd.  In fact the very unlucky Eddy “The Italian Stallion Pony” Lorenti, couldn’t believe it when his score of +8 was only good enough to run 2nd to the winner, Dave “OMG did he really score that” Robertson who had +10!!!

The club has called for Robbo to undergo a rectal examination to confirm where he plucked the score from.  The TAB has suspended paying out on all bets until the results are in.

One thing we do know for sure, is that for his outstanding efforts Robbo won 3 golf balls and lost 2 shots off his handicap J.  Well played Robbo!!!

Finally, don’t forget this Friday night is the 10 Pin Bowling Social night at the Morley Bowl from 7.30pm.  If you have registered to play via Robbo, please make sure you turn up as we will be charged for any “no-shows” and that will mean we will have to charge you the full cost of the game fee’s.

MATCH PLAY QUARTER FINALS

What a glorious day for a game of golf, 23 degree’s, not a cloud in the sky.  Oh how we hate winter!!!.  So a good field of players turned out, even though only 16 guys were in with a shout at either the Matchplay Championship or Matchplay Plate events.

There were some very close finishes as well with a number of games going right down to the wire, but at the end we have 4 Semi-finalists in each division who will try their luck next week.

In the Championship, Arie Venter will tee off against Dennis Han and Shane Seward will do battle with Glenn Ross, while in the Plate Les Eade tackles Alby Hawkins and Anthony Tuppin will lock horns with Jarrad Buirchell.  Good luck guys.

Full results can be seen on the results page by clicking here.

For the other players who just wanted a hit last Saturday, a game of Stableford was on the cards with Mark Grossetti scoring a very nice 43 points to take the win from “The Swollen one”, Huge Left Testicle, err....sorry, we mean Hugh Letessier, with the every reliable Steve “Hoppy” Hopkins taking out third.

MONTHLY MEDAL - STABLEFORD

Taking a break from Match Play and staying with tradition, the first game of each month is the monthly medal day and this time around we had a great field of players battling it out over a game of Stableford.

And what a close fought affair it was with the top 4 players all scoring 44 points.

An honourable mention goes to Neil Buscumb in 4th, place but it was Alan Prodger who took out 3rd, with Anthony “Tupp’s” Tuppin in 2nd, but the winner was the man returning from his holiday, all refreshed, Steve “Hoppy” Hopkins.  Well played guys.

Not to be outdone with being pipped for 2nd spot, Tupp’s also took home $72 in the birds nest.  Nice one.

Next week are the quarter finals of the Match Play Championship and Plate events, but for those not left in that comp, there is a social game of Stableford.

Also guys, just a reminder to please book in with Kev by Wednesday night (if not already done so).  We are getting quite a few guys just rocking up for a game unannounced and it can cause issues and we’d hate for you to miss out on a game.

MAY NEWS UPDATE

A POSTCARD FROM ALISTAIR

To the guys at Rosehill

I couldn’t resist, I just couldn’t.  I know it’ll cost me a fine when I get back, but how often do you get to pose for a photo like this?

And no, I didn’t play the Old Course, it’s closed on Sundays, I played the Balgove.  But you can walk the Old Course!

See you when I get back, Cheers Alistair.

MATCH PLAY ROUND 1

Always an interesting event, the match play championship & plate took centre stage, with the top 16 in each in both categories battling it out to move through to the quarter finals.

Full results can be seen on the results page by clicking here.

For those who turned up for a hit, Paul “Whitey” White took out the win in a game of stroke with 67, from Kevin “Cruzer” D’Cruze on 69, with Alan “Prodge” Prodger taking third with 70.

Next week sees the running of the June Monthly Medal with a game of Stableford, with the match play knockout format returning for the following 3 weeks.

HANDICAP CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 2 (FINAL) - STOKE

The first wet one for season 2010 made condition lousy at the club for the second and final round of the Handicap Championships.  This made scoring tough and none of last week’s front runners could catch the fast finishing David Gallop, who came from the pack to sneer the big prize.

His 66 was enough to win both the day’s event and when added to his 71 the week before saw him take the overall championship as well.  Runner up for the event is the consistent Alan Marson with rounds of 68 & 69 and a honourable mention must go to Mark Grossetti who missed out with rounds of 66 & 71.

2nd place on the day went to Alby Hawkins, who also had a 66, with Greg Ridge taking third with a 67.  Well played guys, especially in those conditions.

Next week is round one of the Match Play Champions and the Plate events.

Below is the draw (at this stage).  Don’t forget, if you know you can’t make each week (should you advance) please let Shane know so he can promote the reserves into the main comp.  All other player not in the comp will be having a social game as well.

HANDICAP CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 1 - STOKE

A big field of 45+ players turned out for one of the years major events in the Handicap championship, which is played over two weeks of stroke competition.

After last week’s scoring we thought that things would go back to a more normal level, but the guys are serious about winning this one and the half way leader is Ray Close who shot an absolutely sensational 62!!!.  But wait there’s more. Jarrad Burchell also shot 62 to run second in a count back, how unlucky can you get.  Third place went to Dennis Han on 65, which is also a great round.

Jarrad wasn’t that unlucky though, as can be seen below, he also took out an Eagle on the 6th (that’s some 2nd shot) and he also took home the birds nest on the same hole to collect a handy $85, although a number of guys are putting in a protest, as they state that Jarrod didn’t actually get a birdie so the prize should carry over J

Sensational golf guys, well played.  Let’s see if you can back it up next week or will the chasing pack apply too much pressure?

MATCH PLAY QUALIFYING - STOKE

Perfect weather was on display as 43 members lined up for a game of stroke to decide the top 36 players who would fight out the knock out formula Match Play Championships later in the season.

The scoring was hot, with 3 players coming in with net 64’s needing the count back method to separate them, with the winner being Paul “Whitey” White, who took the win from Derek “Jack” Russell with Glenn Ross in third.

Honourable mentions also go to 3 guys who scored 65’s and can consider themselves unlucky not to win, being Aire “Hip Hop” Venter, Dave “Robbo” Robertson and Carl “Angry” Andersson.

It should be noted that Whitey’s winning score was a gross 75, which also included an out of bounds on the 8th (yes the 8th, he stuck it over the fence alongside the 4th!!!) so taking that out of the equation, it was a sensational round, well played Whitey and all the other guys too.

Below is the final list of the qualifying positions from Saturday. A big thanks to Lawrie for working extra hard to get these out in quick time.

Once again please let Shane know if you won’t be able to play on June 12th, June 19th or June 26th which are all Matchplay days.  If so, we will remove your name from the qualifying list and move the next player up the order until we have 32 potential full time players.
