18 guys ventured out in windy conditions to have some fun with the final event of the 2008/09 summer season, which was followed by a BBQ and prize giving at the club house. The mixed fortunes event saw 6 holes of Stableford, 6 holes of Par and 6 holes of Stroke. They guys liked it but poor Bill McComb needed a “bex’ and a good lie down after working out who won……….and they were:
StablefordPar
1st Anthony Tuppin (18)1st Jim Plowman (+3)
2nd Danny Joshi (17)2nd Mark Wilson(+2)
3rd Dennis Han (16)3rd Carl Andersson (+2)
Stroke
1st Stuart Craven (22.6)Overall
2nd Mark Wilson(23.7)1st Jim Plowman (50 points)
3rd Jim Plowman (23.7)2nd Mark Wilson(49 points)
Well done to the winners, but especially well done to Alf who has done a great job in running yet another successful summer competition.
Alf has written a few words below on how he saw the season.
FINAL SUMMER REPORT
Firstly I would like to say that this summer season has been the best ever in the 8 years that I have been involved in, with regards to the numbers that had attended each week. The average was 26 per week giving a total of 338 players attended for the whole season compared with an average of 20 and 259 for the previous season that was also a record up to that time.
It was great to see a big number of new members joining up and attending each week. It all adds up to a healthy future for the club.Thank you for your support.I wish all those new members who joined and intend to go on and play in the winter competition all the best of luck and enjoyment. I hope to see you all again next summer.
The only downside to the increased numbers turning up each week was our inability to get management to allow us the use of both tees. There was up to an hour wait for the last group to tee off and up one hour wait for the last group to come in at the end of play. It was commendable to see most of you waited around for the results.
The management committee intends to meet with management of the course midway through this year after the “daylight” referendum to see if we could avoid the bank up on the one tee by allowing us to the use of both tees next summer.
It would be remiss of me not to mention my helpers. Their support enabled the running of the events each week to run smoothly.
Bill McComb who presented himself each week sacrificing his time by coming down to the club and recording and announcing the results. Also he kept everyone honest by keeping the handicaps up to date, recording the “Eclectic” and “Attendance” lists.
David Gallop pitched in by recording the details on the flags of the various prizes ie. N.P’s, 2nd shots and long drives each week. Later on he assisted Alan Green with the “bird’s Nest” and “The Draw”.
Alan Green took charge of the “Bird’s Nest” and the draw assisted by David Gallop.
Jim Plowman who raised “heaps of money” doing the “Lucky 10’s” and being the fines master, sometimes assisted by Peter Barrett who had a “knack” of extracting more money from members’ misdemeanors.
You all deserve a pat on the back for your effort and contributed to the success of the current season. Thank you.
Last week I forgot to mention in my report at the wind up function, a couple of important things that were brought up on the night, namely:
It was announced that Alan Green had played his 700 game last week. He joined the club 20 years ago in 1999. Hope to see you around the club for your 800th game. Congratulations and well doneAlan.
Also on a sadder note it was announced that Peter Barrett had played his last game at our club last week.He played most of the current summer games and was a great assistant to Jim Plowman helping him with the “Lucky 10’s” and “Master at Arms” in which he excelled. For the record he put in his first card in on the 12th April 1997 and played on until the end of year 2000. He was absent in 2001 and 2002 rejoining in 2003 to current. He once showed his hidden talent by performed as a puppet in a“Ventriloquist and puppet “showwith Ray Reichard, together entertaining the club members at one of our wind ups. They had us all in raptures. We will also miss him at “Novelty Events” at the club when he appeared alongside Ray Reichard wearing various costumes of “comic heroes” or dressed up in traditional Scottish golf outfits. He is moving house to Mandurah and we wish him well in his new surroundings.
Abridged Financial Report
Total receipts (for summer golf only) was $11,352.65 made up of Green fees, Lucky 10’s, Master at Arms, Subscriptions and a cash Sponsorship of $80.
Total Expenditure was $11,212.15 made up of Green Fees, and weekly prizes, Wind up function and Barbeques.
Balance was a surplus of $140.50 to be carried forward into next summer.
Finally I would like to wish all the summer golfers all the best for 2009 and those not playing in the winter, God willing I will catch up with you in thesummer season 2009-2010.
Thanks and Regards,
Alf. (Summer Golf coordinator)
RUSSIAN STABLEFORD (DRAWN)
26 guys ventured out on what promised to be a stinker of a day, including two visitors in Malcolm Gallop and Arie Ventor, for a game of Russian Stableford and it was the combination of Carl Andersson and John Collins who romped it in with a massive 81 point, 5 shots clear of Les Eade and David Gallop on 76, who had a 3 shot break over Greg Ridge and Jim Plowman in third place.Well played fella’s,
But all the talk was about the big night ahead at the summer wind up and guest report Alf Wettinger fills in the gaps below.
SUMMER GOLF TROPHY NIGHT
On Saturday night we had the windup function at the “Wah Sun” restaurant located along Walter Road Morley. Forty one members and guests attended. There were a few unexpected absentees.
Those present were treated to a variety of Chinese dishes. There was more than enough food for everyone and the beer and wine flowed all night. Everybody had a great time and the whole event went off without a hitch.
There were two and half dozen bottles of various brands of beer and eight bottles of wine 6 white and two reds left over. All of these will be offered as prizes next week.
Next week which is the final week of summer golf will be a novelty event and is called “Mixed Fortunes”. The game is split over three parts. Six holes will be played as “Stableford”, six holes as “Stroke and the remaining six will played as “Par”.
There will be winners 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each section and an overall winner and runner up. So there will be lots of prizes to give away. Afterwards the members will be treated to a full barbeque and a free drink at the club. This will then bring the summer season to a close getting everyone prepared for the long winter competition commencing on the 7th March 2009.
Regards
Alf.
Below are some snaps of a few of the lucky winners.
SUMMER CUP ROUND 2 - STROKE
The winner of the prestigious Summer Cup for 2009 is Peter Marriot after a hard fought battle with runner up Anthony Tuppin. The pair pushed each other all the way, with Peter taking a 3 shot lead into the final round. However, it was Anthony who won the individual day’s game with a 68 to add to his firstround 69 for a total of 137, but Peter carded a 69 to take out 2nd place on the day, which was enough to hold onto the overall lead by 2 shots, carding a total of 135.
Well played both guys.Just to prove how close it was, both Peter and Anthony also shared the birds nest on the 15th.
From the other 27 starters it was David Lord who carded a nice 69 to take our 3rd place. He was joined on the day by 2 visitors, Paul White (who is looking to play in the winter comp too) and Malcolm Gallop. (could this be a relative of the infamous David Gallop?)
In other news, the Eclectic results were finalised on the weekend, with the spoils going to Stuart Craven with a nett 58, who won in a count back from Mark Burich.
Also the Attendance results were announced with Anthony Tuppin having 46 points for the season from Mark Burich on 45.
Finally, a correction from last week’s story that said Anthony Tuppin had won the birds nest.It was in fact Kevin D’Cruze who took the cash.As a result, Kevin said that if he got his name on the web site that he would shout the whole club a drink with his new found fortune!!!Mines a Crownie thanks Kev.
MONTHLY MEDAL - PAR
Steve (Hoppy) Hopkins is having a clothing sale.Apparently he has a number of yellow polo shirts he needs to shift at bargain basement prices. All have an embroided logo on them with the words “Monthly Medal Winner” followed by a date. Some go back as far as July 1834!!!!
And now he has another one to add to the massive collection.Yes, Hoppy picked up the Monthly Medal award again last Saturday with a +4 performance in the Par event.2nd place went to Steve Blake on +2 with Anthony Tuppin taking out 3rd in a count back with +1.Well played guys and especially Hoppy who has been a consistent performer for as long as we can remember.
Oh and just to rub it in, Hoppy won the Birds Nest too!!!
SUMMER CUP ROUND 1 - STROKE
The “big one” for the summer season got underway on Saturday with round one of the prestigious Summer Cup, which is played over 2 games of Stroke.Places were limited to a maximum of 32 as the course was fully booked, which was disappointing as some members had to be turned away during the week.
The winners on the day and indeed half way leaders are Peter Marriot who had an impressive 66, with 2nd place taken out by Anthony Tuppin in a count back from David Gallop, both on 69.Anthony also picked up the birds nest of $60.Nice one.
Round 2 will be on Valentines Day, February 14th.
JANUARY NEWS UPDATE
BRING A MATE - STABLEFORD
Bring a mate was the name of the day and that’s what some of the guys did, with a warm welcome to the following visitors, Patrick Leong, Steve Gillan, Shaun Tuppin and Matt Clarke. We hope you had fun.
Of the regulars it was David Lord who breezed in with 43 stableford points to take the win from Coussy Bro who’s Turned Pro (Mark Burich) on 41 with Carl “Double S” Andersson taking third with 39 points.
Once again we had an issue with players not booking and turning up.But on this occasion they had to be turned away as the course was fully booked until 11am.Remember guys to ring or email Alf by Wednesday night to book your spot.
Also please note that the much anticipated Summer golf wind up is on soon. Please click here for details.
2 BALL AMBROSE-STROKE-DRAWN
Don’t ask how it’s played, but 28 starters including an interstate visitor from Newcastle in NSW, Graham Oholford, turned up for the mixed bag comp which was played in ideal, even cold (at first) conditions that followed Fridays scorcher.
A very special thanks goes to new member Pierre Callendar, along with Derek Saunders and Alf Wettinger who put their hands into their pockets to donate the top three prizes of $50 first from Pierre, $30 for 2nd from Derek and 2 bottles of port from Alf.
Great to see these guys getting behind the club.
The winners on the day were Carl Andersson. Dennis Han & Peter Barrett who carded a 60.166???, followed by Mark Wareham & Anthony Tuppin on 62.25 with third spot going to Les Eade & David Gallop on 63.75.
PAR EVENT
Coussy-Bro Turns Pro.Yes it’s true, Mark “Coussy-Bro” Burich
has taken the plunge and has taken up Professional Golf as a
Career.
It all happened quire unexpectedly last Saturday, when Mark
shot a +6 to blitz the Par event by one shot from Stuart Craven,
with new member Glen Ridge taking out third on +3.
But wait, there’s more!!Mark was not happy with simply
winning first prize, he thought he’d make some serious money
and took out the birds nest on hole 5 (3rd week) and pocketed
$87.00.But wait, there’s even more!!!He backed up on the next hole and took the birds nest on the 6th (2nd week) and that kicked in another $47.00.Not a bad little earner.
Well played Mark. Make sure you remember your golfing buddies at Rosehill as you take off to play the lucrative U.S. and European circuits won’t you.
When Mark was asked after the event how he was enjoying being a Pro, he replied “Sweet-as”
JANUARY MONTHLY MEDAL
A great turn up of 34 players including 3 visitors started the new year off with a hit in search of the first Monthly Medal shirt for 2009.The winner on the day was David Gallop who had an impressive 43 stableford points. He was followed by Mark Burich who took out 2nd place with 40 points over Peter Barrett.
Another impressive start to the year was also made by Steve Hopkins, who scored the first Eagle for 2009 on the 9th hole.Nice one Hoppy!!!
We also welcome Paul White, Will Smith and Arie Ventor as our visitors and hope they enjoyed their game.
However, there was one area on Saturday that caused some problems however and that was the need to book in advance. We actually had 2 more players than spots and it was only the fact that there was a group of 2 public players, that we could squeeze our extra’s on the course with them.We have to remind all players that if you don’t book and the course is full, you will not be allowed to play.
So please ensure you let Alf know if you want to play by Wednesday night at the latest, by either email or phone. The web site has a direct link to Alf via the Summer Bookings section.
DECEMBER NEWS UPDATE
NEW YEARS TROPHY - STROKE
New Years came a few days early on Saturday, with 29 players contesting the running of the New Years Trophy with a round of Stroke and it was Kevin D’Cruze who was a clear winner with a net 66.He was one shot clear of Steve Blake who shot 67, with Peter Marriot taking out 3rd with 69.Good scoring gents!!!
Kevin received a bottle of Canadian Club Whiskey, with Steve getting a bottle of Jacobs Creek Wine and Peter a bottle of Port so the NYE’s celebrations should start off on the right note. All three winners also received a Pen and Diary set as well. Many thanks goes to the Wettinger’s for donation all the prizes bar the Port, which was donated by Kevin Stonehouse.
We hope all of this impressed a visitor in James McCurron, who came along for the first time and that we night see him again.
XMAS TROPHY - STABLEFORD
A very clean shaven Santa Claus came to town to give out the Christmas cheer to the winners of this years Xmas Trophy, with Les Eade taking out first spot with an impressive 43 stableford points, Les was presented with his first place Hamper prize by Santa, as did runner up, Peter Barrett and also 3rd place getter David Lord, who both shot 41 points.
As it turned out, all of the players who turned up got a gift from the Rosehill management of a Tee & Marker set.Plus we had another new player try his luck in Alan Marson, welcome Alan, we hope you enjoyed yourself.
Santa was so pleased that the weather was kind to him on the day as even without his whiskers, the red suite can still get a little too hot to wear in an Aussie Summer, especially as he had a busy time of it, rushing back to the North Pole to load up his sleigh.Well done Santa.
INDIVIDUAL STABLEFORD
The second day of summer golf was battled out in perfect conditions, with Steve Hopkins winning in style on 40 stableford points, one shot clear of Ken Moore on 39.A further shot back in third was David Gallop on 38, which was also the CCR for the day therefore some good scores were posted by most of the player 22 players who turned out.
Included in the group was yet another new player in Pierre Callander, who was trying his luck for the first time and is hoping to join.Welcome Pierre, we hope you enjoyed your inaugural outing.
DECEMBER MONTHLY MEDAL

Stroke was the event for the running of the first of the Monthly Medals and it was Peter Marriott who took the win with 69, followed by Steve Blake on 70, who need to count back to pip Danny Joshi into 3rd.

9th November 2008
Dear Member,
The summer golf season kicks off on Saturday the 6th of December 2008 running for 13 weeks and finishing on Saturday the 28th February 2009.Again I have accepted an invitation from your management committee to organize the forthcoming summer competition.
As in the past the summer format will follow a shortened winter competition with the main difference being “Tee off” time occurring early in morning to avoid the heat of the afternoon.
Management will advise us of the “Tee Off” time but based on previous years it should be around 7 am. I will let you know of the exact time in due course. In the past management had allocated us 6 spots but due to the increased interest shown by the members last year when we had excess numbers turning up on numerous occasions and the difficulty experienced in fitting them in (as at this time of the day the course is heavily booked by the public) I had asked them to book in an extra spot for us this season thus guarantyingus to have a maximum of 28 players each week.
Fixtures are being prepared and can be picked up at the club in due course or viewed on the “web site”.
Please place your name on the “Expression of interest” form that will be pinned on the notice board on the 15th Nov. if you are interested to participate. We need to know the numbers well in advance to advise and enable the management to reserve sufficient spots for us. Be aware that numbers are limited so register early and avoid disappointment.
Each week you will need to contact me (Alf Wettinger) on 9276 9552 or email summerbookings@rosehillsgc.comby no later than the Wednesday night prior to the game. Reservations in the summer time is critical as the course is very busy at that time and failure to do so could see you miss out altogether or be placed at the end of the field several hours after the club’s allocated “Tee off” time.
Visitors are most welcome to join us. They can become a Summer member for only $35 .This covers them for Insurance and membership for the duration of the summer competition. A “Summer Club Handicap” can be obtained after handing in 3 cards.
Bill McComb has offered to record the results, “Handicaps”, “Eccelectic” and “Attendances” each week.
Jim Plowman will take charge of the “Lucky Tens” and take on the role of the “Master at Arme".
Alan Green will be handingthe “Bird’s nest” and conducting the “Draw” each week
These volunteers will ensure that the meetings will be conducted smoothly each week and make it an enjoyable day for all the players. On behalf of the members I would like to thank them in advance for their services.
Enjoy the summer season and I look forward to seeing you turn up in large numbers.
