Summer Golf 2011/2012
JANUARY/FEBRUARY NEWS
We know, we know...
It's been far, far too long...
Sorry about that folks, sometimes things just get away from you...
To catch up on the last four (ulp!) weeks...
Last Saturday (11 Feb) saw us out on the course playing Russian Stableford. Always guaranteed to ruin friendships as the stableford scores of partners are multiplied, so if one wipes, they both wipe.
Unfased by such pressures, or perhaps because they're always fighting anyway, were Kim Sharpe and Ian Moore, who romped home with a combined score of 87. On their tail were Wayne Finnerty and Gordon Prunster with 82 and Les Eade and Shane Seward with 78.
The week before (Feb 4) was the last monthly medal of the Summer Season. Despite the fact that Summer Captain Hoppy has a history of losing his own card, Steve managed to track his down long enough to declare himself the winner of this particular round of par.. Trailing our glorious leader (yet at least able to find their cards) were Wayne Finnerty and Adam Andersson.
Back even further and we had two weeks of Summer Cup.
The first week, had relative newcomer Gordon Prunster romping in with a stroke score of 65, followed by Dave Gallop on 65 and Steve Hopkins on..... 65. Counting back was required, but even after checking the cards three times, Hoppy could only put himself in third place...
Week two of the Summer cup and we had several wussy dropouts (your humble writer included) as temperature and humidity soared. Sixteen players still struggled around the wilting fairways. Ian Moore came out trumps with Les Eade closely following. Overall, Ian took out the Summer Cup trophy too.
Once again, sorry about the slowness of updates, and we'll get some photos up soon!
New Years Cup and Monthly Medal
A brand new year and 20 players turned up for a game of stroke and the 2012 New Year Cup.
And what a cracker of a game it was. It's not often that players turning in net scores of 67 don't even get a look in. In the end Mario Muscat took out the cup with an astounding Net 59, closely followed by Eugene on 62 and Shane Seward, shattered to find that 64 relegated him to 3rd place.
To cap it all, Carl Andersson shot an eagle, it would be more impressive if your writer had made a not of WHERE he shot an eagle, but we'll find out and let you know in due course.
The following week was the year's first Monthly Medal. Playing Par (sorry Ray!), we scored 19 players this time. Superb weather obviously motivated Mangles, with Alby shooting a spectacular +9 to take out the match, closely followed by Dennis Han and Ray Close.
Two weeks of Summer cup comin up next, so make sure you get your bookings in by Wednesday evening. See you out on the course.
2 Man Ambrose and the Christmas Cup
Sixteen players had sufficiently recovered from Christmas Windup hangovers to brave the course for a round of 2 Man Ambrose. Club Champion Jarrad came out of seclusion to partner Derek Lees to a convincing win with 60.25 ahead of the Andersson Boys on 61.5. Kim Share and Ian Moore took third with 63 on a countback.
The following week was the Christmas Cup and the last game of the season. Playing stroke, the top three scores were all the same! Steve Hopkins, Manoj Fernando and Wayne Finnerty all scored 67. However, it was our Summer Captain Steve Hopkins who triumphed on a countback.
Summer Golf resumes on Saturday 7th January, after a 2 week break. Rosehill have made 24 slots (6 groups) available to us, but we need to fill those slots to retain them. So don't forget to get your booking in by phone or email by Wednesday night.
For those worring about the handicaps, our handicapper's computer has benn getting a tune-up. Updates will be on the website before the next game.
THE DECEMBER MONTHLY MEDAL - STABLEFORD
While still wiping the sleep from their eyes, unfortunately too many golfers turned up for the first hit of the summer season. A hiccup with the bookings meant that a few people missed out, our apologies for that.
For those that did get out on the course, the best of the bunch was Jarrad Buirchell who had a sensational round of 44 points. Now in “Jarrad speak” that equated to a 3 under 69 off the stick. What a great round of golf.
But get this, it included 2 bogies and 1 Double boggie!! He made up the difference by sinking 3 Birdies and not one but two Eagles on the 6th & 9th holes. Very impressive JT. Second on the day was Kim Sharpe with a very nice 42, followed by Gordon Prunster on 41. Congratulations guys, well played.
