FEBRUARY NEWS UPDATE
COMBINED STABLEFORED
The last day of summer fixtures saw 26 players turn out for a combined Stableford event which had some nice prizes up for gabs, with many thanks to Callenders Internal Innovations and the company’s owner Pierre Callender.test
The winners, who took home a bottle of Jack Daniel’s each, were Anthony Tuppin & Kevin D’Cruze who score 40 & 38 for a combined score of 78.They were 4 shots clear of Jarrod Buirchell & Garry Cook who took second after a count back scoring 41 & 33 for 74 and a bottle of Jim Beam each, with Greg Ridge & Dennis Han taking out third and a dozen Crownies each with 39 & 35 for 74
To finish the season off, Jarrod took out the final birds nest and the guys all enjoyed another Rosehill BBQ.
Don’t forget the major winter competition kicks off next Saturday March 6th.Make sure you book in so as not to miss out.
RUSSIAN STABLEFORED
27 Comrades turned up to try their luck in the special two man team Russian Stableford event, whereby the two Stableford scores are multiplied together to create a team score on a hole by hole basis.
It was the in form pairing of Mark Grossetti & Manoj Fernandez who racked up a massive 104 points to blitz the field.
2nd and 3rd was a much closer affair with a count back required to separate runners up Alistair Day & Steve Hopkins from the “dream team” (their words) of Paul White & Hugh LeTessier, with both teams scoring 85.
Later on Saturday night it was the summer season wind up dinner at the Wah Sun Chinese restaurant in Morley.Below are a few shots from the night.
SUMMER CUP Round 2 - STROKE
Round two of the summers major competition was completed on Saturday 27 players trying their luck to win the Summer Cup.
After a great performance in round one, it was Mark Grossetti who carded a solid 70 to add to his impressive 63 to take the win with a total score of 133.Runner up over the 2 rounds was the swollen one himself, Hugh LeTessier who carded a 68 and a 70 for a total of 138. Congratulations to our winner and runner up.
In the days stand alone event, it was the Singapore Sling Dennis Han who blitz the field with a very nice 67.He was followed by Peter Marriot on 69 who took second in a count back from Ray Close. Good scoring guys.
Following the game a BBQ was supplied to the usual high standards we enjoy from the Ladies in the kiosk.Don’t forget that next Saturday night is the summer season wind up dinner at the Wah Sun Chinese restaurant in Morley.
FEBRUARY MONTHLY MEDAL - STABLEFORD
Almost cold condition (well is sure felt cold after the last few weeks) greeted the 36 players who were vying for the exclusive and elusive yellow polo shirt. We had a few visitors as well, including Glenn Ross, Alistair Day, Glenn Andersson and Graeme Cash.We hope you enjoyed the day.
The winner on the day was Paul “Whitey” White, who needed a count back with 43 points to take the shirt from David Lord, with Jarrod Buirchell coming home third with 41 points. Nice golf guys.
Third was an interesting position for Jarrod as he also had a third share in the bird’s nests along with Tuppy and Hoppy.Apparently he was thinking of what he can spend the $23 on?I’m betting that he had a bet on the GG’s.Let’s hope he put the money on a place and not a win, because the horse would have had to run third!!!.
JANUARY NEWS UPDATE
SUMMER CUP Round 1 - STROKE
The major competition of the summer began on Saturday with the running of the first round of the Summer Cup, which is played over two weeks of Stroke.
33 players tied their luck, with newly handicapped Mark Grossetti carding a very impressive net 63 to lead by two shots from Adam “Angry” Andersson on 65, with Steve “Hoppy” Hopkins a further shot back on 66.
However, there are a number of players nipping at the leaders, so the trophy is not yet on the mantelpiece, with the Handicapper to have his say before the final round which is to be played in two weeks time.
BRING A MATE - STABLEFORD
31 guys turned out for the annual summer bring a mate day and we had a few mates come along, including Alistair Day, Glenn Ross, Mark Grossetti & Nicholas Randell
The winner on the day was Adam “Angry” Andersson who scored 41 points but needed a count back to take the victory from both Dennis Han and Greg Ridge who took out third.
Steve “Hoppy” Hopkins was a happy camper too, taking out the birds nest on the 14th and pocketing $28 for his efforts.
We hope all the mates had fun and may come back for another game soon.
2 BALL AMBROSE STROKE - DRAWN
The fear of 39 degree’s didn’t deter 29 starters for the special Ambrose event on Saturday morning.Unfortunately there were a few no shows on the day and so the club had to pay for these spots, but those players, since contacted, will be paying this back next week.
With the odd numbers of players, including 2 visitors, some teams were groups of three and it was two of those who did the business with Alf Wettinger, Garry Cook & Steve Blake taking out first place with 60.667 points.
2nd spot went to Steve Bayne, Maoj Fenando & Pierre Callender on 61.50 with Jarrad Buirchell & Alan Green teaming up to take third with 62.50.Well done guys.
SUMMER WIND UP NEWS FROM ALF
Dear Member,
Our summer golf season windup function will be held at the “Wah Sun” Chinese restaurant in their private function room situated at 189-193 Walter Road Morley. This venue is ideally suited for us to conduct our formal proceedings of the evening in neat surroundings and with complete privacy, as those who had attended previous presentations can attest to.
As the restaurant is not licensed it gives us the opportunity to purchase top quality wines and beers at reasonable cost. Also there are no corkage charges.
If there are any special wines or beers (within reason) that you may desire on the night let me know and I will try to accommodate you.
If anyone knows of other restaurants in the metropolitan area where we can have our own room and bring our own drinks let me know and I will “suss” them out for possible use next year.
below this notice is the “Menu” that will be served on the night. As you will see there is a large variety of dishes and I’m confident that no one will leave the restaurant feeling hungry.
Prizes will be presented on the night to the winners and runners up where applicable of the “Summer Cup’, “Perpetual Christmas and New Years Trophies, Monthly Medal Tee shirts and other miscellaneous prizes.
This year there will be several door prizes up for grabs and depending on available funds there could be also be a gift for members and their escorts.
The cost to the individual member including their partners or guest will depend upon the number of games played during the summer season leading up to and including the day of the function listed in the fixtures. The magic number this season is 12. If you played the whole 12 games you will incur nil, zero cost for yourself and your partner. Pro-rata costs will apply to all the others. Each member will receive a credit of $ 5.50 per game played or conversely pay $5.50 for each game missed. Extra guests will need to pay $ 33 per head total, for their meal and drinks.
Any surplus funds left over will be spent the following final week of summer golf (27th Feb.) on a full barbeque lunch at the club immediately after the game.So keep this time free also.
For catering purposes let me know if you are coming as soon as possible. Look forward to seeing you there.
Regards
Alf Wettinger

PAR EVENT
Anthony Tuppin or “Tuppy” as he is better known, had a day out on Saturday in winning the Par event with a +6, needing a count back to take it from Alby Hawkins, with Mark Wareham back in third with +3.Nice scoring guys.
But it didn’t stop there for Tuppy, he thought he’d throw in the birds nest to boot and seeing it was week 3 of that hole, he picked up a very nice $91 for his trouble.Way to go Tupp’s.Shame the handicapper wasn’t as generous to you and Alby though.
MONTHLY MEDAL - STABLEFORD
Happy New Year to one and all and well played to the 4 guys who all tied on 39 Stableford points in chase of the January monthly medal shirt. The count back method had to be applied, checked and rechecked, which finally saw Derek Saunders come out on top, followed by Alby Hawkins, from Kevin D’cruze, with Danny Joshi taking out fourth.
We also had a visitor in David Patrick who joined us for the day.We hope you enjoyed yourself David. It was nearly a full field as well with 31 players turning up.We’re pleased to say that we have now secured another 4 spots as of next week for the rest of summer, taking the available places to 36 players maximum each time. However, please remember you must book each week and once you have booked you must turn up or you may be forced to pay the green fees to the course management if they are passed onto our club to pay.
DECEMBER NEWS UPDATE NEW YEARS TROPHY - STROKE
The Boxing day hangover really kicked in, as only 15 guys could get a leave pass from Mrs Santa to play in the New Years stroke event.
It didn’t stop those attending from posting some nice scores with Alan Marson once again heading the podium, with a net 63. The handicapper is looking hard Alan.A-Reserve is looming large!!!He was one shot clear of second place getter, Alf Wettinger on 64, who pipped David Lord for third in a count back.
The winners on the day received a 2010 Dairy & Pen courtesy of Alf, who donated his prize back to the club, so that Adam “Angry” Andersson had something to take home in fourth.
XMAS TROPHY - STABLEFORD
Santa Claus is coming to town!!!!! Well actually it was to Rosehill, as the jolly man in the red suit made an appearance to spoil the little boys and girls (well the boys) as he handed out the prizes for the annual Xmas trophy after they had a game of stableford.
All the boys were on their bestest behaviour and told Santa that they had been good little golfers. But he didn’t believe all of them and only gave out 3 presents to the very bestest players. The biggest one was for Jim Plowman, who played very well to get 45 points, this was just one point ahead of Dennis Han, who had 44 points and next in line was Manoj Fernado who scored 42.
Apparently Manoj was more interested to see if any of Santa’s little helpers were hanging around in those tight red dresses and stockings, but alas they were all back at Santa’s workshop making more presents ready for Christmas day.
Also very happy, but not getting to sit on Santa’s knee was Kevin D’Cruze who Eagled the 15th and this makes two Eagles in two weeks for the club, with Jarrod Buirchell also scoring an Eagle the week before on the 2nd.Well done guys.
So we say many thanks to Santa for wearing the red suit on a scorching summer’s day, not the smartest golf attire, but very well received.Well done Ray, err, we mean Santa and to all our members have a very safe and enjoyable Christmas break.
Santa spreads his joy!!!
INDIVIDUAL STABLEFORD
Week 2 of Summer golf and week 2 of scorching temperatures were in store for the full field of 32 brave souls who turned up to try their luck in the individual stableford event.
“Young Gun” Jarrad Burichell was in great form again, racking up 42 points to take out the win, but he needed a count back to pinch it from Jim Plowman in second place and the very consistent Alan Marson who took out third with 41 points.Jim and Alan had better check the handicap sheet, as your fine form is catching up with you guys.Somehow Jarrod escaped!!!
Jim did have another reason to smile as well, he took out the birds nest on the third hole and won $66.10.Question is, what tight arse put 10 cents in the tin? J
MONTHLY MEDAL - STROKE
Day one of Summer golf for 2009/10 and 27 players turned out to try their luck in the first of the monthly medal events, with a round of stroke.
The weather gods lived up to their promise with a 37 degree day, but it wasn’t just the weather that was scorching, Kevin D’Cruze a.k.a. The Cruzer hit a very nice net 65 to take out the prize. He was one shot ahead of Alan Marson who took second place with 66 in a count back to Ryan “Killer” Bale in third.Very impressive scoring guys!
It was great to see all three guys celebrate their achievement by backing up to the winter season wind up that night.
Dear Member,
The summer golf season kicks off on Saturday the 5th of December 2009 running for 13 weeks and finishing on Saturday the 27th February 2010.
As in the past, the summer format will follow a shortened winter competition with the main difference being “Tee off” time occurring early in morning to avoid the heat of the afternoon.
“Tee Off” time this season will be at 6.30 am off both “Tees”. This will speed up the teeing off and finishing times of the last group. Last year we had to tee off from one tee only and on some occasions the last group had about an hour’s wait. The management has allocated us 8 spots, 4 off each tee. This represents a total of 32 players. The numbers playing summer golf has shown a steady increase over recent years and I am very confident that this trend will continue this year so I urge you to book early to avoid disappointment. The course is heavily booked by the public around this time and the late comers may have to fitted in with them or wait until the end of morning bookings that could be several hours later.
Fixtures have been prepared and will be handed out at the first fixture on the 5th December. They can however be viewed on the “web site”. Jerry Mercer has arranged and laminating them in “wallet” size similar to last year. One side will show the booking details with the flip side showing the fixtures for the forthcoming summer season. Thank you Jerry for all of your work.
Please place your name on the “Expression of interest” form that is pinned on the notice board if you are interested to participate. As explained earlier the numbers are limited so you need to commit as soon as possible.
Each week you will need to contact me (Alf Wettinger) on 9276 9552 or email summerbookings@rosehillsgc.comby no later than the Wednesday night prior to the game. Reservations in the summer time is critical as the course is very busy at that time and failure to do so could see you miss out altogether or be placed at the end of the field several hours after the club’s allocated “Tee off” time.
Visitors are most welcome to join us. They can become a Summer member for only $45 total comprising $10 pro-rata nomination fee, $20 insurance and $15 pro-rata membership. The $10 pro-rata nomination fee can be used towards the full nomination fee of $40 should you wish to join the winter competition subject to availability of places. An initial “Summer Club Handicap” can be obtained after handing in 3 cards. This will make you eligible to receive the weekly prizes on offer. However the final handicap could be adjusted after handing in a further two cards.
Mark Wilson has put his hand up to carry on Bill McComb’s work to record the results on the day, “Handicaps”, “Eclectic” and “Attendances” each week. Laurie Wishart has also agreed to be his back should Mark be unable to attend some matches.
Jim Plowman as usual has offered to take charge of the “Lucky Tens” and take on the role of “Master at Arms”.
Alan Green and David Gallop will hopefully be handling the “Bird’s nest” and conducting the “Draw” each week as before.
These volunteers will ensure that the meetings will be conducted smoothly each week and make it an enjoyable day for all the players. On behalf of the members I would like to thank them in advance for their services.
Enjoy the summer season and I look forward to seeing you turn up in large numbers.
Regards
Alf Wettinger
