NOVEMBER NEWS UPDATE

MEMORIAL DAY - 4 MAN AMBROS

Wow, another winter season done & dusted after the running of the 4 Man Ambrose event.

Always a favourite and with major bragging writes on offer, many took the chance to dress up a little (some a little too much) as they entered into the spirit of the day, in which we also remember those players who are no longer with us.

Top of the tree this year were the team of John Tempest, Derek Lees, Neville Warner & Mark Grossetti, who carded a sensational 54.25.  They pipped the fast finish team of Kevin Pearce, Lou DiGregorio, Lawrie Wishart & Al Day who had 54.375.  Third place went to the defending champs in Shane Seward, Ryan Bale & Jarrad Buirchell with Wayne Finnerty on 55.37.

After the game, it was back to the club house for the presentation of the minor trophies for the season, along with a full BBQ dinner, supplied courtesy of the course management.  Many thanks once again for that.

What an interesting bunch of photo’s we have for you this week.  The club has its own Duck and now we have our very own Crazy Frog!!!  Mark Grossetti stole the show, when he arrived in this jaw dropping number.  Well done Mark, that took some……….err……….balls, which by chance, were on display!!!

Also out on the course NAGA Newton got in on the act, by picking up a Ladies Tee hat for his effort on the 7th.  As Chris is showing, the tee actually went further than his ball did.!!!  Not to be outdone, Ray didn’t make the ladies either, forced to wear one of his own creations.

Also the Three “Senior” Amigos in Les Eade, Gordon Prunster and Les Musgrave all dropped their lips when they picked up the NAGA.  Finally Jarrad spat it because he didn’t get any trophies on the day, so in a fit of rage he decided to break one from someone who did J

TROPHY NIGHT

Don’t forget next Saturday December 3rd is the Annual Trophy Presentation night.  It’s a great night which includes a 3 course meal, open bar, live entertainment, the players revue and of course the presentation of the major trophy winners for the winter season of 2011.  If your name is down on the list, please make sure you show up.

AGM, TUESDAY DECEMBER 6th, BASSENDEAN BOWING CLUB – 7PM

Finally, lock in Tuesday December 6th at 7pm for the AGM, this year to be held at the Bassendean bowling club.  It is crucial you come along and support the club that has served you all year.  If you are interested in being on the committee, or helping out in some way, then please don’t hesitate to speak to Kevin Pearce for more details.

OVER & UNDER 55’s - STABLFORD

With glorious weather conditions, Stableford was the format for one of the season’s favourite events with the running of the Over & Under 55’s Trophy.  It drew a good crowd too, eager to stake their claim as Rosehill’s “Senior Sensation” or  “Young Gun”.

In the Over 55’s, our Senior Sensation was new member Gordon Prunster, fresh from his 3rd card, who posted the round of his life to score 44 points (with thanks to the new super coach on the tour, Derek Lees).  He was one shot clear of an unlucky             on 43, with Pius O’Keeffe (let me check that again to be sure)…….Yes, Pius O’Keeffe on 42, who took third in a count back from Les Eade.

In the Under 55’s, the new Young Buck (Ha!!!) is Derek Russell, who shocked many posting 46 points to take the prize, he was one shot clear of a very unlucky Alby Hawkins on 45, with club greenkeeper Mark Murray taking out third on 44.

For their efforts, both Gordon and Derek picked up 100 bucks worth of wrist watch each from Ray’s Prize Pool, but will have a nervous wait until Truck sorts out their new handicaps!!!.

In the photo department, Marty shows how the course can swallow golf balls.  A frantic search for his second shot on the 9th eventually found his little white egg, nesting 3 feet up the truck of a tree on the left of the fairway.  Marty didn’t know whether to pick it out and hit it or to sit on it in the hope it would hatch.  Fortunately the first choice was taken.

Also, although both Louieeeeee and Les Musgrave escaped early in the hope we would miss them, we still managed to acknowledge their fine achievements out on the course J

FINAL GAME OF THE SEASON

Next Saturday is a big day out boys, so tell the missus you’ll be home late.  The last day is a team’s Ambrose event (choose your uniforms) followed by a full BBQ dinner, supplied courtesy of the Rosehill Course Management, to which we say “thank you for your support”.

It is very important that you book in, and if you are not planning on staying for the BBQ, can you let the Pres know ASAP, as the course does not want the food to go to waste.

We will also be giving out the minor trophies won during the year as well as other prizes from Ray’s basket of Goodies.  It’s a great way to finish the season off, so don’t miss out.  Don’t forget that Summer golf will start the week after, with 3 months of early starts, so get you name on the list if you’re playing.

TROPHY NIGHT

Finally, we must know by next week if you and your partner are coming to the Annual Trophy Presentation night on Saturday December 3rd.  It’s a great night, 3 course meal, open bar, live entertainment, the players revue and of course the presentation of the major trophy winners for the winter season of 2011.  Don’t miss out.

THE WEEKEND AWAY

A Duck and a Fairy, Gambling, Booze, Roast Dinners, a Record turn up and over $750 in cash given away……Oh and the there was some golf as well.  That’s the short version of the annual weekend away in the South West in which a great time was had by all.

Friday saw 40 of the boys roll up to Harvey for the Ambrose team event, which is always hotly contested.  Some amazing scores came in, but the pick of the Bunch was “The A Team” of Jimmy Wyatt, Alan Prodger, Glenn Andersson and BJ Andersson(?).   They all took home a bottle of Scotch for their efforts.  Well played fellas.

After the usual Friday night shenanigans, 47 guys made their way to the Sanctuary course, which was in great nick this year, for a game of Stableford, using a modified handicap format.

Winner on the day was Jarrad Buirchell, who carded a very nice 44 points, which included an eagle on the 8th.  He needed a count back however from the unlucky Chris Newton who took out 2nd with Neil Buscumb once again getting on the podium in third with 42.  An honourable mention goes to Eddy Lorenti who came home 4th with a 41.

After the game, the annual club photo was taken and now adorns our web site for another 12 months.  Following this, we all headed back to the Koombana bay hall for a full roast dinner, dessert and drinks, followed by the presentation of prizes along with some very dubious entertainment as our very own Plucker and his Fairy friend made their inaugural appearance in an attempted to give away the final four $100 ducks on the pond.  It took a few goes but we’re pleased to say the promised $1,000 has been well and truly plucked.

Thanks to all concerned in putting the weekend together.  We hope you enjoyed yourself and also the photo’s below.   Back to Rosehill next week for the Over and Under 55’s event.

THE NOVEMBER MONTHLY MEDAL
& MEDAL OF MEDALS - STROKE

Another great turn out for the search of the Rosehill Shirt, but this time the event also incorporated the inaugural Medal of Medal event, for the 12 players who had won the previous 12 Monthly Medals (Nov 10 to Oct 11)

In the regular event, there was a bit of a surprise, when MAA Derek Russell got his hands on the prize with an eye opening 63.  He was one shot clear of an unlucky Neil “Billy” Buscumb on 64, with Alby “Jennifer” Hawkins coming home third with 65.

Five other guys were knocking on the door with 67, the best being Al Prodger, who also had the lease number of putts with 26.  Also getting an honorary mention was The Pres, Kevin Pearce, who Eagles the par 4, 17th, with a 170m 3 wood putt.!!!  Well played fella’s.

Of those players in the Hunt for the Medal of Medals, it was Mario Muscat who took out the first ever event.  He will receive the Medal on the last day of the season.

Our photo’s this week show a very sheepish Lou Digregorio, who kept very quiet about his windy, but still got nabbed.  Lawrie “Tuck” Wishart took out the NAGA after an argument with 2 bunkers and Mario is all smiles after taking out the first Medal of Medal prize.

Next week is the very popular weekend away and as such, there is no club game at Rosehill.  Things kick off at 11am on Friday with the Ambrose team’s event at Harvey, cost is $20 with a $5 sausage sizzle for sale after 9 holes.

On Saturday we play Stableford at The Sanctuary course in Bunbury, also from 11am.  Please see Jimmy Wyatt on Saturday morning around 9am to pay your $40 green fees and get your tee off time.  He is in Unit QV30.  Please note guys, you will be allowed to add 5 shots to your Rosehill handicaps for the Saturday Stableford game.  Please wear you club shirts and hang around for the annual club photo after the game.

The club is also supplying a full Roast dinner, dessert and drinks on Saturday evening at the hall at the Koombana Park.  Around 6.30pm.  Free to members and partners, guest to pay $20 per head to Manoj.  Of course there will be the usual fun and games including Ducks on the Pond, when all the $100 ducks will go off.  Travel safely.

OCTOBER NEWS UPDATE

THE CAPTAIN V PRESIDENTS TROPHY

Even the queen took a flyover of “Royal Rosehill” this week just to gain a glimpse of one of the most hotly contested games of the season, in the Captains V Presidents event, decided by teams representing one or the other having a game of match play.

In a desperate measure the Pres even pre-selected some players in an effort to try and wrestle the trophy back from the captains grasp.  He was successful too, but by the narrowest of margins, taking the prize 9 games to 8.  He also took great pleasure in presenting Ray with the NAGA award as being in charge of the losing team.

The full results can be seen by clicking here.

Next week is the inaugural Medal of Medal event, which sees all players trying to win the November monthly medal, but the winners of the previous 12 Monthly Medals (Nov 10 to Oct 11) are also playing off for the overall Medal of Medal Trophy.  And of course, the following week is The Weekend Away!!!

THE PAR BOWL (ROUND 2, FINAL)

This week we had the threat of thunder storms, but that didn’t stop 39 guys from turning out for round 2 of the Par Bowl major trophy event.

Leading the way on the day was Paul Krestensen who broke through for his maiden victory with a sensational +8.  He just saw off Dave Thompson who had +7, while Jimmy Wyatt came home third with +6.  Well played guys.

In the big one, it was Pius O’Keefe who had another +5 to come in with a two week total of +10 to take home the major trophy.  Runner up after his +7 was Dave ‘Vegi” Thompson.  Congratulations guys.

This week’s pictures below sees Paul showing off his winning prize, however his round also included a windy, which is the same problem that Eugene had, while Al gives us his best Paris Hilton pose.  Wayne’s Rent-a-mate scored a moose, while Peter took out the NAGA.

Next week is one of the favourite events of the year, with the Presidents V Captains match play event.  Make sure you book in on time.

THE PAR BOWL (ROUND 1)

A burst of summer heat saw some lilly white legs on display for the first time for a while, as the shorts came out of the cupboard of a number of players who competed in round one of the Par Bowl major trophy event.

The man who kept his is cool to be the half way leader was Nifty Neville Warner with a very nice +5.  He needed a count back though from two guys hunting him down in Pius O'Keeffe and Steve Hopkins also on +5

However, while these three guys will be leading the way in the final round next week, there are many players that are very close behind and as we know with Par, things can change quickly.  So there is every chance for Mark Grossetti, Mark Murray and Lawrie Wishart who are on +4, Wayne Finnerty on +3 followed by Lou Digregorio, Carl Andersson, Alistair Day, Ray Reichard and Ian Moore not far behind on +2.  Good luck to all of the contenders.

Some players who weren’t as lucky this week are pictured below with Al and Mark having windies, while Glenn & Marty weren’t too long off the tee it appears.  Marty has just returned from a holiday to see Robbo in Thailand and by the look of the NAGA jacket Robbo’s been giving him some lessons again J

THE OCTOBER MONTHLY MEDAL STROKE

A later than normal October monthly medal was on offer for the good turn out on Saturday.

After giving it his all at the ten pin bowling night the evening before, it was Razor Ray Close (sore shoulder and all) that backed up to blitz the field with a fantastic 64 to take home the exclusive yellow shirt.  Great stuff Razor.

He needed a count back however from new comer Paul Krestensen, who broke through to record his first ever “podium” finish which also included his first ever birdie (I’m sure we can all remember our first ever birdie, all hot and sweaty in the back of a car…..err sorry, wrong game).  Well done Paul, the smile on your face said it all.

Running in third place was the ever happy Pius O’Keeffe who had a great 65, also needing a count back from the “back in form” Shane Seward who ran 4th.

Of course Monthly Medal time means Ducks on the Pond, with another $100 on offer to the lucky plucker, but this time around it stayed hidden in the reeds, so we have 2 x $100 ducks up for grabs next time.

Our photo’s this week show a very forlorn Al Day, who had another Moose, while Nifty Nev looked very much the part in that lovey straw number for failing to make the Ladies, but both won a spin at Plucking a Duck.  Go figure?

Next week is round one of the two week Par Bowl Championship event.  Make sure you book in with the Pres!!!

THE TEN PIN BOWLING NIGHT

A nice turn out of players and partners at the Morley Bowl on Friday night for the annual Ten Pin Challenge.  Seriously, put any Rosehill guys together and the competition is always fierce.  We even had Kill-R and JB getting there an hour early just to practice!

A lot of fun and laughter was had on the night with the winners in the best Handicap team event going to “A Ridge Too Far” made up of Greg, Anna, Reece and Tara.  Well Played.

In the Scratch events it was the team of “Still Training” comprising of Jimbo, Del and Gazza that took the prize, with Jimbo taking the highest scratch series for the men and Sharon taking out the Ladies along with the highest single game.  In the men’s highest game, Kill-R missed out on a 200 by just 5 pins to take the prize.  Just goes to show what all that practice can do eh Ryan!

Well played by all, we trust you had a good time, which is evident in the shots below.

THE NON AFL GRAND FINAL RUSSIAN STABLEFORD

As always at this time of year, the AFL big finale sees a larger number of guys stay home to watch “the big one” but that still didn’t deter 25 guys, including 2 guests, from turning up for a hit of Russian Stableford.

The winning combination, needing a count back was David “DG” Gallop and Steve “Hoppy Hopkins” who amassed 94 points.  They picked up a bottle of Jim Beam each for their efforts, pipping the unlucky “Mediterranean Marauders” in Eddy Lorenti & Mario Muscat.  Coming in third was “Nifty” Neville Warner and & “JT’s Bitch” Mark Grossettii J with an Honourable mention going to Uncle Les and nephew Steve with a very good 85 in fourth place.

We’re still confirm the NAGA at this stage but we think that Wayne Finnerty and Geoff Price took out the prize with a score even less than an average single game of Stableford. Whoops!

Next week is the belated October monthly medal, this of course being held after next Fridays 10 pin bowling festivities.

Also for those that are interested, we now have the final club championships results below and also on the results page.

SEPTEMBER NEWS UPDATE

THE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 3 - FINAL

Great weather and a great turn out for the final round of the club stroke and handicap championships, including a few very nervous players who were in the hunt.

The Gross Championships are first.

In A Grade Jarrad Buirchell did it again, taking out back to back A Grade and Overall Club Championship wins, with a 3 round total of 224. Well done JB.  Runner up was Jimmy Wyatt on 236.  Great scoring guys and well played.

In A Reserve Steve Hopkins ended with 248 to hold on from a fast finishing Richard Church who had 251, while in B Grade Greg Ridge was a runaway winner on 269, 10 shots clear of runner up Mark Grossetti on 279.  Finally in C Grade things were very tight with Dennis Han coming from the pack to win with 278, just one shot ahead of Lou Digregorio on 279. Congratulations to all the winners.

The Nett Championships had a slightly different feel to it, with Wayne Finnerty taking out the A Grade and the Overall Championship with 203.  Kim Sharpe was the A grade runner up, but from C Grade Mario Muscat took the overall runners up spot with 204.

In A Reserve, the result was reversed with Richard Church scoring 208 and needing a count back to take the win from Hoppy.  In B grade Greg Ridge took that out as well scoring 212 and being 4 shots clear of Mark Grossetti on 216.  While in C Grade Mario Muscat took the win with his 204 from Louieeeeeeeeeeee on 208.

In the event on the day, which is awarded for the best nett score Derek Lees had a sensational 64, to take the win form Ray Close on 66, who needed a count back from Mario Muscat who had a definite day out.

Our photo’s this week show all of our winners in the Gross and the Nett event, with Hoppy standing in for Richard who was told by the missus that he had to be home in time for dinner. Shame he’d already scoffed down our BBQ. J

Also we see Wayne wearing the Windy award after having, not one but two windys in a row on the 18th (and he still won!!!) plus Carl was not going to wear that hat again despite our best efforts as he says it has jinxed him on the same hole each week and finally Danny proudly displays the NAGA award.

Don’t forget that next week is the AFL Grand Final, so if you are planning on watching the big game, please make sure you let Kev know your plans, as if you’ve booked and don’t show then we have to pay.  Also a reminder that the green fees will rise next week, so the club game fees will now be $30.  Finally don’t forget that Friday October 7th is the ten pin bowling night, so please let Derek know if you are playing (if you haven’t already).

THE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 2

Another 43 guys turned up for moving day in round 2 of the club stroke and handicap championships, with the top four place getters after round two, being grouped together for the third and final round next week. The full results tables are below, but the summary is as follows:

In A Grade, Jarrad Buirchell had another great round with a gross 74 to put one hand on the trophy he is defending, being 6 shots clear of Jimmy Wyatt, who had a 78.  Unfortunately Wayne Finnerty couldn’t repeat his heroic round of last week and now holds down third spot 2 behind Jimmy.  Kim Sharpe had the round of the day with a 75, nett 63 to take out the daily prize and also 4th spot overall 3 behind Wayne.  In the Handicap event Wayne still leads by 3 from Kim, with Jarrad & Jimmy 3 shots back in 3rd & 4th

In A Reserve, it’s Steve Hopkins leading the way, after he hit 84 to be 5 shots ahead of fast finishing Kevin Pearce who is level with Richard Church with Neil Buscumb holding down 4th one shot back.  The Handicap scores are a little different with Hoppy holding top spot by 3 from Alby Hawkins, who is one shot clear of Pearcy & Churchy.

In B Grade Greg Ridge has taken over top spot as Marty dropped out of the event.  Greg is also 5 shots clear of Eddy Lorenti, who is one shot clear of Les Eade, who is two shots clear of Mark Grossetti.   In their handicap event, the same 4 players share the lead, but Greg is only 3 shot clear of Eddy, who is one shot clear of Mark then Les.

Finally in C grade its Lou Digregorio who has jumped into top spot after carding a 90, he is 3 shots ahead of Chris Newton, who is also 3 shots clear of Lawrie Wishart, who is level with David Gallop in 4th.  In the handicap event things are tight.  Eugene Evans is leading in a count back from Chris Newton, with Lou just one shot back, while Mario Muscat is coming into play a further 3 shots back.

In the event on the day, which is awarded for the best net score, as mentioned Kim Sharpe took the prize with a 63.  Runner up was Lou Digregorio on 66, with Carl Andersson making the podium with 68, needing a count back to edge out Ryan “Kill-R” Bale

Interesting photo’s this week, with only one Ladies Tee award going to Geoff Price who was looking re-splendid in his matching hat and shirt outfit!!!  Marty took the NAGA, looking somewhat out of focus (as was his game), but the interesting shot shows what Paul White found on the course.  With a number of players getting away early to see the Eagles beat Carlton, it appears that someone wasn’t very complementary to the visiting side.  Rumour has it that the Pres will be out with some sandpaper this week.  For the record, it’s at the back of the 4th tee.

Don’t forget there is plenty to play for in all grades next week as well as a full BBQ for all players after the game.  So tell the missus that you won’t be home for dinner, but please make sure you book in with KP by Wednesday night.

THE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 1

43 guys turned out for the biggest event of the season, with the running of round one of the club championships, this year run in conjunction with the handicap championships.  The full results are above, but the summary is as follows:

At the pointy end in A Grade, the gauntlet has been well and truly thrown down, with Wayne Finnerty hitting a fantastic gross 73 to share the lead with the defending champion Jarrad Buirchell, who also carded an impressive 73.  Jimmy Wyatt is two shots back after a great 75, with Paul White staying in touch with a very good 77.  In the Handicap event Wayne’s great round saw him lead with a net 60, from Paul on 65, with Jimmy on 67.

In A Reserve, Steve Hopkins leads after carding a very nice gross 80, two shots clear of Richard Church on 82, with Neil Buscumb on 83.  The Handicap scores see the same three guys holding the same three spots, with scores of 66, 68 & 69 respectively.

While in B Grade Martin Page has taken the early lead with a gross 89, from Greg Ridge on 90 and Les Eade on 92. In their handicap event, the same three players also hold the top 3 spots with respective scores of 69, 71 & 72.

Finally in C Grade David Gallop holds first place with a gross 90, from Chris Newton on 91, with Lou Digregorio holding onto third with 93.  In the handicap event though things are different, with Chris scoring a great 64, from new member Eugene Evans on 65, his round also including an Eagle on the 18th (nice one), with David Gallop holding down third on 65.

In the event on the day, which is awarded for the best net score, no surprises seeing Wayne Finnerty take the win, from Chris Newton and Eugene Evans.  There are a number of handicaps changes this week, so check them out, but for the record our first and second place getters both lost 2 shots!!

As always, there were the usual round of Ladies Tee and Moose awards to go around, but a few of the guys kept quiet, which is a shame for them as Big Al had donated 4 bottles of scotch to be given out to those who owned up.  This included the NAGA, which unfortunately (or fortunately) Al won himself J Thanks Al.

Round two is next week and there is still plenty to play for.

THE SEPTEMBER MONTHLY MEDAL STROKE

Things are hotting up for the club championships which begin next week, with 44 players turning out on Saturday to fine tune their game ahead of the pending three week major tournament.  But on offer for this week as always was the imposing yellow shirt.

And the man who is running very hot at the moment is the Singapore Slinger himself, Dennis Han who took out his second major event in as many weeks, this time with a fantastic 64.  He needed a count back however from fast finishing Kim Sharpe in second place, with Geoff “Tangles” Durrant making an appearance in third on 65.  An honourable mention also goes to Shane “The Driver” Seward who returned to form with a 66 in 4th.  Well played guys.

So the year’s most prestigious tournament is just one week away, with the format being a little different this year as the handicap championships will also run in conjunction with the Gross score event.  What this means is that a number of the higher handicapped players in each grade, will still have a chance of taking home a trophy.

So that you know who you are up against this year’s players grading’s are listed below, but please note that not all of the listed players have qualified for the Gross event.  However, all players are eligible for the handicap event.  If you are in doubt, please see Eddy next week.  One thing that is interesting to note, is that places 1st to 4th this week are all represented in each of the 4 grades as well.  Does this make them the early favourites???

And of course being monthly medal time it was also Ducks on the Pond time, with three One Hundred Dollars Quackers up for grabs and would you believe it, with 10 spins this month, all three Jackpot Ducks were won.  Jack Russell, Vegi Dave and Les Eaaaaaaaade took one home each, as can be seen with their smiling faces below.

AUGUST NEWS UPDATE

THE 4BBB WESTATE TROPHY (Select) – STABLEFORD

Once again a big thank you to Big Al for his view on the weekends game while our regular reporter still had his feet up!!!

A team event this week, with its unique ability to produce excellent golf and strained friendships. The fabulous weather brought out the bulk of the club and every slow public player south of the river as we went at it in a round of four ball best ball.

Triumphant in first place were Dennis Han and Chris Newton with a combined score of 55. Second, albeit tardily (what where they DOING out there for almost five hours????) were Mario and Manoj with 53. Also rans included John McGrath and Les Eade with 49 and Jeff Price and Lawrie Wishart with a 4th place 49 on count back.

Among the usual awards for air swings, ladies tee failures etc, we had a special presentation. It appears that our Social Secretary, having found his game again, has also found his self-confidence. So much so that he decided to predict the outcome of the match artistically….

There was nothing for it, but to have his efforts framed and signed by the club so he could take SOMETHING home this week…

THE RIMTEC TROPHY – PAR

Thanks to Big Al for his assessment of last Saturdays action, while our regular reporter was away on assignment J

An afternoon of what turned out to be fine weather encouraged 38 players to vie for the Rimtec trophy in a game of Par. The rain held off, despite the dire predictions of the forecasters and all the players had to contend with were some gusting winds and several clumps of mysterious ball eating clover that caused a number of wiped holes along the way.

Defying all these on course trials, “Nifty” Nev Warner took the cup with an excellent +6. Coming in second was Ryan Bale, breaking a long dry spell with +5. Derek Lees got third with a +4 on count back from Wayne Finnerty.  Angry picked up an Eagle on the 15th as well.

After the game we saw some role reversals.  Killer took over master at arms as Derek Russel was swilling wine in Margaret River.  Al Day took over the wheel and managed to give away almost all the fundraising takings for the week.

Captain Ray, not being a huge fan of Par (and yet he schedules the games…?) didn’t just take his bat and ball, he took all his hats as well.  It was therefore unanimously decided that everyone played so well they were excused public humiliation for this week only.!!!

THE MATCH PLAY FINALS & FLAG EVENTS

Yet another massive field of 41 players turned out in glorious weather to see what the final four players would do in the Matchplay Championship and Plate Finals, while trying their hand at the novelty Flag event, based around a game of stroke.

In the Big one, the much anticipated game between Ian Moore and Al Day unfortunately didn’t quite live up to the hype, with Ian having a day out and taking the major trophy with a convincing 8 & 7 victory.  In the Plate event, two inform players in Ray Close and Chris Newton battled it out right to the end, with Ray winning 2 up on the 18th.  Well played by all 4 guys to get through to one of the favourite event of the year.

In the flag event arranged for the rest of the gang, prior to the game Kiil-R unveiled the “Cruzer Cup” in honour of long standing member and all round good bloke Kevin D’Cruze, who was playing his last game for a while, before he ventures off to work and live overseas.  The overall winner on the day would claim the Cruzer Cup as their own forever, so competition was fierce.

The man who rose to the top to take it home was Alan Prodger, who carded a net 59!!! (can you believe that)  A brilliant score which will no doubt have Lawrie looking closely at Alan’s handicap.  He took the trophy from a fast finishing Wayne Finnety on 62.  How unlucky is that!!.

In the B grade field, Alby “Jennifer” Hawkins took the win from The Tuppinator, Anthony Tuppin, while in C grade, Greg “Cool” Ridge showed some form to win from Derek “Bruce” Lees and in D grade The Old Salty John McGrath took the win from the Singapore Slinger himself, Dennis Han

As always, there were tall tales to be told of the odd misadventure, with our photo’s below showing the 10 shot Moose award going to TWFSL, who also looks like he’s just gone 10 rounds with Danny Green!!!  It wouldn’t be a week of golf without Big Al Day having some headwear, this time the windy award, while Carl refused his Ladies Tee hat despite Rays best efforts.  He did however settle for the NAGA award instead.

Finally we see the man himself Kevin D’Cruze presenting his own cup to Al Prodger after his amazing round.  It’s sad to see Cruzer go for a while, but perhaps a few of us might make the trip to Thailand for some golf once he gets settled in.  Good luck mate.!!!

THE AUGUST MONTHLY MEDAL STROKE

A sensational winter’s day saw some even break out the sunscreen as a massive 41 players set off in search of the exclusive yellow shirt.

The great conditions also aided some very impressive scoring too, none better though than Adam “Angry” Andersson who had (in his own words) “his best game ever” to score a net 61 (gross 79).  You couldn’t take the smile off his face and to add to his joy, he even shared the birds nest with Cruzer.  Great game Angry.

Feeling a little unlucky was the currently “in form” Anthony Tuppin.  The Tupinator carded a great 66 needing a count back to take second place from Ray Close in third, who was no doubt tuning up for his big match play plate final next week.  An honourable mention also goes to the winner’s father in Carl Andersson.  The Viking took out 4th spot with a 67,
from 5 other guys all on the same score.

But even with all this great scoring going on, a few of the guys managed to add to their wardrobes as can be seen by the lovely selection of photo’s covering the NAGA, Ladies Tees and Windies.

Being monthly medal it was also time for Ducks on the Pond to make it regular appearance, with Hundreds of dollars on offer and taking out a “Big One” was Shane Seward, who looked suitably impressed with his plucking skills.

Don’t forget that after the game next week we have a full BBQ dinner, so tell the missus not to serve anything up for you at home.

Finally, please get your accommodation details to Derek for the weekend away ASAP and also an update on the qualifying limit for the Club Champs in September.  It's now 10 games minimum you must have played to be able to enter the 3 week comp.

JULY NEWS UPDATE

THE STABLEFORD BOWL (Rnd 2) - STABLEFORD

With wind & rain all around, the field took to the course, along with a few nerves, as the final round of the Stableford Bowl event was decided on Saturday.

Half way leader Alistair Day looked to have things wrapped up after last week’s 48 was added to by another 25 points on his first nine, but then the wheels began to fall off on the last nine, with Big Al only managing to scrap together 15 points.  This gave him a nervous wait for the others to come home and the results calculated.

He needn’t have worried though, as he ended up a clear 6 shot winner, from the “currently consistent” Chris Newton, whose 40 points gave him the runners up spot over the two weeks.

On the event for the day, It was the Tuppinator, Anthony Tuppin who carded a very nice 43 to take first place, from David “check my new stance” Gallop on 41, with the Dalai Lama himself, Neil Buscumb taking out third with forty points, needing a count back to sneak home from from Chris Newton, Steve Hopkins and Big Al himself.

Congratulations to Al & Chris on their achievements, which was especially sweet for Al as (in his own words) “it’s the first trophy I’ve ever won at anything”.  Nice one Al, Well done.

As for the rest of the pack, there were plenty of unforgettable golf going on and as can be seen in the shots below.  Our own handicapper shows he can be as bad as the rest of us.   Daren had a one inch shot deemed a Windy.  Mrs Hoppy made a visit, while Angry was all smiles as he got a Pearl Necklace from Ray. (Just the thought makes us shudder).  Finally the big game hunter Gary was the only guy to get a 10 in a game that allows you to pick up after taking 9 at worst????

THE STABLEFORD BOWL (Rnd 1)- STABLEFORD

Always a favourite event, the Stableford bowl is played over 2 weeks and normally throws up some surprises.  None more surprising than the half way leader in Alistair Day.

Big Al absolutely shot the lights out with a massive 48 points, an amazing score.  As such Lawrie has taken the axe to his handicap and chopped 3 points from it bringing him back to 31.  Al was 4 shots clear of second place getter, Wayne “Postman Pat” Finnerty, who has to consider himself unlucky after shooting a very nice 44.

Not far behind were 3 other players who all came in on 43, with the count back giving third to Greg Ridge, from Derek Lees and Richard Church.  Good scoring guys.  To finish the day off in style it was great to see Steve “Hoppy” Hopkins take out yet another Eagle with a chip in on the 4th.

So even with Al’s 4 shot lead, there is still plenty to play for next week in round two, as the game can change very quickly.

In this week’s photos below we see how badly Mark Grossetti is missing his mate and Footy Tipping Star, John Tempest, who’s on R&R back in the land of the great unwashed.  Mark just couldn’t do a thing right without his mate around for support and as such took out the NAGA for his troubles.  Marvellous Marty had a windy, while the Tupinator didn’t look very happy with his new headwear.  Finally we’re not quite sure what to make of the pouting Greg Ridge’s new look…………..sweet. J

THE GOLD CANYON THAILAND OPEN - STABLEFORD

Some International news this week guys as we let you know that expat Dave “Robbo” Robertson has broken through for his Maiden victory on the Thai Tour.  Using all of his 18 handicap, he picked up 38 points to blitz the other 36 players in the field at the picturesque 6,600 yard Gold Canyon course.  He slipped in three birdies and 5 pars on his way to the win, which (for the record) also included a nine!!!

The big prize by the way was a massive 1,000 Baht (that’s $30.94)   Well done Robbo.

THE HARLEY CABINETS TROPHY - STROKE

It’s the middle of winter but we still manage to get 41 players turn out for hit.  Well done guys. It was great support for the Harley Cabinets Trophy event, played over a round of stroke and after the very heavy rain on Friday, the course was in surprisingly good condition.

There was a definite theme for the day, with a number of side bets going on, which motivated the players to bring in some very impressive scores.  None better than our Treasurer Extraordinaire Danny “Hot Chocolate” Joshi who absolutely whip the opposition with a fantastic 63.  His big win also saw him take home 130 big ones if you don’t mind.  Well done and well deserved Danny.

Another side bet that was going on was between Alby Hawking and Ryan “Kill-R” Bale and it was Alby who came out on top, with a 67 to take second place on the day from Ryan who had to settle for third also on 67, with Big David Gallop just missing out in fourth also on 67.

Interestingly though Kill-R said that the side bet between he and Alby was a draw, so nothing was paid out, but we think that if the club can split them on a count back, then he should pay up!!!  J

In yet another side bet, John Tempest and Mark Grossetti had an up market carton of beer on offer plus the chance for the loser to be the winners “bitch” for the night!!!  The two guys also lined up in the same draw and we saw another close game, with John finally coming out on top.  As can be seen in the photos below, John made the most of it.

In this week’s other photos, we also have a beautiful collection of headwear and NAGA jacket wearers too.  Plus after last week’s quiz night we can now let you know the winner of the non Matchplay event, being Martin Page who put all the formats together to take out the win.  Well done Marty.

Finally, please note guys that the Annual Club Championships are coming up in September.  The stroke event in played off in all Grades over three consecutive weeks, with the gross scores deciding the eventual winners, but the club will also be having a net event as well this year to keep the interest going.  There are two important things to take note of here.  1. To qualify for the club championship, you must of played at least 12 game in the regular season and 2. For those 3 weeks, no guests are allowed to play.  It’s members only.  Cheers.

THE QUIZ NIGHT 2011

What a brilliant turn up to the annual Rosehill Social Golf Club quiz night, held at the Bellevue RSL hall on Saturday night.  125 people came along to battle for some fantastic prizes on offer as well as having some fun along the way.

The winners on the night were the family and friends of club members Ian Moore and Kim Sharpe, who scored an impressive 93 out of 110.  They took home a bounty of prizes ahead of the 2nd placed team of the Yeo family on 90, with Derek Lee’s table taking out 3rd with 85.

Other notable winners were Danny Joshi & Bev Bayle who took home a massive selection of goodies in the heads and tails, while TWFSL somehow managed to slide 1 Rupee right next to the bottle of Jim Beam to win it.

There was also plenty of interest in the selection of silent auction goods on display, with a special thanks going to major sponsor CWR for donating a top of the range iPad2, greatly appreciated guys.  The eventual successful bidder was Killa’s mate John Watson who bagged himself the bargain of the night.

While the final say goes to Ray Close’s wife, Maria, who had the pleasure of taking out the special “adultshop.com” raffle.  $250 worth of goodies got taken home, but we loved her comment to her sister, saying “don’t you dare tell Mum” J

Thank you one and all for coming along and a very special thank you to all of our wonderful sponsors, who without, we couldn’t have put the night on and especially to those guys at the club who helped get the prizes in.  Cheers.

MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP & PLATE (SEMIS) & MIXED BAG

8 nervous individuals lined up to battle out for the chance to get into the final of the 2011 Matchplay championship and plate.  And with one exception all the game went right down to the wire.

In the Plate Ray Close had to take Mark Grossetti to the 19th to finally take out the win, which mean he will play Chris Newton, who left it to the 18th to pip Eddy Lorenti 1 up.

In the Championship, Ian Moore also needed a trip to the 19th to snatch it from Adam Andersson.  He will meet Alistair Day, who gave Ryan Bale a day (make that a weekend) he would sooner forget, winning 7 & 5.

Congratulations to the finalists. Good luck to you all on August 13th.

The other players had a mixed bag game and we will have these results to you a little later.

THE JULY MONTHLY MEDAL STROKE

A few showers and quite cold weather (well it is winter) is what greeted yet another great turn out in search of the Rosehill Holy Grail being the Monthly Medal Shirt.

And under the circumstances, there was some good scoring too, with new comer Maltese Mario Muscat taking out the prize at his first attempt thanks to a very nice 65.  He needed a count back though from a very unlucky Dave “Vegi” Thompson, who’s has flown off to Thailand to drown his sorrows.  Third spot went to Kim “rent-a-mate” Sharpe coming in third on 67, also needing a count back from Alan Prodger.  To top things off, Captain Ray Reichard dropped a sensational Eagle on the 11th.

Being Monthly Medal Day, it was also the return of the now infamous “Ducks on the Pond” with $400 up for grabs and we’re pleased to report that not one, but two “big ones” went off.  As can be seen below Vegi Dave took out the first and Chris NAGA Newton got the second.  Congrats guys.  Don’t despair guys, next month there will still be another $300 jackpot on offer.

Also in the pictures, we can see a lovely collection of head wear, with a variety of Ladies Tee winners, a shocked Jack Russell wearing his prize and of course Killa’s Terrific Trousers (yes they are for real and we expect to see them a lot more I’m afraid).

The fancy clothing is all part of Killa’s master plan to confuse Big Al and whip his arse in next weeks “Balls to the Wall” Matchplay Semi-final.  Good luck to both players, along with other semi-finalists in Adam & Ian, Ray & Mark, plus Eddy & Chris.

As for the rest of the players will be having a special mixed scoring event organised by Ray.  Please note that there will be no fundraising or after game activities, as its straight home for most to get ready for the Quiz Night.  Game day prizes will be given out the following week.

MAY NEWS UPDATE

THE CANADIAN FOURSOME EVENT - STROKE

Some say Canadian Foursomes is only half a game of golf, but that didn’t stop an incredible 40 guys from turning up with one aim in mind, to win it.

The rain held off and the conditions were conducive to low scoring……………very low scoring indeed.!!!  Top of the tree were Ian “Rambo” Moore & Kim “rent-a-mate” Sharpe with a sensational 60, to be two clear shots from the second place “Electric” duo of Dennis Han & Nifty Nev Warner.  Fancy get 62 and running second???.

Just zero point five further back were third place getters Paul White & Glenn Ross on 62.5, who also can consider themselves very unlucky.  All winners got some special watches provided by one of Ray’s……err……”contacts”!?!? J  Great scoring guys.

In this week’s photos below, it was a Big day out for Darren Maddox & Danny Joshi and when we say Big, we mean Big in many ways.  Most notably their Big scoring, which was Big enough to give them the NAGA, but they also got a Big Moose to help their cause.  Even with all this Big-ness (?) going on, it was still great to see them smiling.  In the Ladies Tee department, it looks like our very own Super Swede Carl Andersson has made that new orange hat his own, while Chris Newton got pinged for a dubious windy!

Interestingly, our picture of Louieee dressed to the max the other week, has prompted others to show that they too can mix it in Perth’s top Social Circles, but in the case of Big Al, we’re not too sure what Social Circles have “Fairy Dress Up Parties”!?!?

Finally, with the Quiz night is just two weeks away the tickets have started to be given out.  Please note that you will need to pay for them at the door on the night, but also remember that you must bring them with you.  The prize pool is starting to come along, with thanks to the members listed on our Quiz Night Sponsors page.  If you can help, please bring your donations down to the club either next Saturday or the one after.  Cheers guys.

THE CAPTAINS TROPHY - STABLEFORD

Rain, yes rain, you remember, that wet stuff that falls from the sky?  Well it greeted the guys for the first time this season, as they set off for a round of Stableford in search of Ray’s favourite event of the year, the Captains Trophy.

Richard “Churchy” Church had a day to remember, with sensational 46 points to blitz the field.  He was 3 shots clear of that man who “loves this game” John McGrath on 43, with Treasurer Extraordinaire Danny Joshi taking out third with 40 points, needing a count back from Ian “Mumbling” Moore and Derek “still to get a nickname” Lees.  Well played guys in trying conditions.

We also saw the return of two more visitors in Wayne “Postman Pat” Finnerty and Mario “the Maltese” Muscat J  Glad to see you guys came back for seconds.

As can be seen by the shots below, Captain Ray, had to make sure he figured in the results for his own event.  But when first place was out of reach, he went for the next best thing, the NAGA.!!!  Also it’s nice to see Carl wearing a lovely new Orange number this week, along with Tuppy who, I find it hard to believe, had a windy.  The bigger shock however is to see Cruzer in the background drinking Coke?!?!?

In other news, did anyone see in this week’s Social pages in the West, with the flashy looking guy in the Red Penguin Suit (below)???  Naaa, neither did we, so we thought we’d put the photo in here to show you how well Louieeeeee Didgeridoo scrubs up for a work junket, at the Hyatt no less!!!  Lock up your Grannies.

There also seems to be a little bit of friendly rivalry creeping into the upcoming Matchplay championships, as can be seen by the “poster” that was sent into us this week.  It looks like its “Game On” between these pair of clowns.  By the way, if anyone is interested in getting tickets………well don’t’ bother, just rock up, there free. J

Finally, please keep those prizes coming in for the quiz night on July 9th and if possible try to support those companies who are supporting you.

MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP & PLATE (QUARTERS)
& PAR BISQUE

16 hopefuls (well 15 actually) lined up for a shot at making their way through to the semi-finals of this year’s Match Play Championship and Plate events.

An unfortunate back injury to long time club member Les Musgrave (we hope your back on the bike again soon Les) meant he could not make it, handing his opponent Chris Newton the only walkover of the day.  But as for the other matches, they all went down to the wire.

In the Championship, Big Al Day took care of Jack Russell 3+1, while, Killa took to the Tuppinator 4+2, meaning they will now meet in one Semi Final.  While on the other side of the draw, Angry, edged out Hoppy 1 up, with Mumbling Moore, getting over Mad Swing Mark 2 up, to make up the other Semi.

In the Plate event, Fully Sic Ray beat the Super Sweed 1 up, while the Mower Man took out the Pres (on his birthday no less) 4+2 to qualify for one of the semi’s, with the other being decided by Steady Eddy beating the Ever Flatulent Jimbo 2+1, who will now meet NAGA Newton after his good fortune.

There were plenty of other guys who turned out for a social hit, with Captain Ray coming up with a round of Par Bisque.  This format allows the player to nominate how many shots off their handicap they will use per hole prior to tee off, using par as the scoring method.

The hole of the day went to Nifty Nev Warner, who had four shots left over to use on the 18th and subsequently got an 8, to still get a plus!!!  But the runaway winner with a very impressive +7 was Paul “Whitey” White, who took home some nice glass wear to keep the missus happy.

While in second place Kevin “Cruzer” D’Cruze had a great +5 winning a lovely Bochi set, which he promptly gave to the Pres as a birthday present, aaaaaaar, isn’t that sweet (me thinks that set may turn up on the prize table again)  Third spot went to Richard “Churchy” Church, also on +5, who took home a torch for his missus, because he says that “she lights up his life”.  Someone get me a bucket!!!! J

Next week is the Captains trophy played over a game of Stableford.  Book in early with the Pres please guys and don’t forget to talk with your neighbours, friends and work contacts to try and get some prizes for the quiz night on July 9th.  Tables are filling fast.

THE JUNE MONTHLY MEDAL STROKE

Another great turn out in the battle for the Monthly Medal’s coveted Yellow shirt.  This time it was June, but as always played with a round of stroke.

And just to prove to all of his mates back in Seth Avfricar (who are reading this now) it was no fluke, the Ernie Ells of Rosehill, Garry Hearapath put in another impressive display to take out the day.

After Lawrie chopped two shots from his handicap, it was clear that Garry was sandbagging this week, taking a whole 6 shots more that last week.  Mind you, that still gave him a net 66, which was two shots clear of Ian “Mumbling” Moore on 68, who pipped Adam “Angry” Andersson by a shot on 69.  Louieeeeeee Digregorio got the boiled lollies again, in 4th on 70.  Also throw into the mix, an Eagle for Richard Church on the 9thWell played guys, oh and Garry…….have a look at your handicap now.!!!! J

Being monthly medal day, it was also “Ducks on the Pond” minus the music this time, as TWFSL forgot to bring it.!!!  Despite Big Al’s best efforts, no one took home any of the 3 “big ones” on offer (that’s the three $100 ducks), but at least club legend Johnny Trewick had two goes at getting the cash and took home a few bucks for his efforts.  Great to see him back too.

This of course means that next Monthly Medal will have four $100 ducks for the plucking!!!

There was also an abundance of Windies, Moose’s and Ladies Tee’s as can be seen below.  Even John “I love this Game” McGrath scored a moose, but then tried to do a runner.  However, our intrepid Captain nailed him in the car park before he could get away early, forcing him to wear the silver crown for you all too see.

Next week is the Quarters of the Match play, along with a fun event for the remainder, so book in early guys.

Also, don’t forget to talk with your neighbours, friends and work contacts to try and get some prizes for the quiz night.  Anything will add value to what already is a fun night.

LIFE MEMBERS/REUNION DAY

The President provided the weather (so he claims) the Captain supplied the prizes and the players provided the fun, in what turned out to be a great Life Members/Reunion day.

It was good to see some old familiar faces again and a fair bit of reminiscing was done (over a few cold ones) both before and after the game, which also included a full BBQ for all.

Competition was fierce as well for this new Major Trophy, with a game of stroke set to decide the winners.  And the big prize was taken out by Garry Herapath, who had an absolute blinder, scoring net 60, great game Garry.  He was 2 shots clear of a very unlucky Lou Digregorio who had a sensational 64.  In third spot, Danny Joshi included an eagle of the 9th on his way to 65, needing a count back from Derek Russell.  Well played to all the guys.

However, for his troubles Garry’s great performance has caught the eye of Lawrie, our intrepid handicapper, who has taken the axe to his handicap!!!

In the pictures below we see the collection of Windy, Moose’s and Ladies Tee champs as well as the life members who played on the day.

Next week is the June Monthly Medal, plus the return of Ducks on the Pond, now with Three $100 ducks floating about for you to pluck.

THE PRESIDENTS TROPHY

A healthy bunch of lads turned out for Kevin’s favourite day of the year, the President’s Trophy.  He was keen to win it as well, being the defending champion (still can’t believe he was allowed to win his own trophy!!!)

Unfortunately though, he just missed out, running 4th with 40 points, two shots behind Alan Prodger who posted a nice 42 to run third, one shot behind fast finishing Mark Grossetti who scored 43 to take second.  But no one could touch new member “Nifty” Neville Warner, who used his brand new handicap to his advantage to post 45 points and take out “the big one”.  Mind you Nifty, Lawrie has now taken the knife to your handicap, big time J  Well played guys.

In other news, the club now officially has a right couple of Plankers in its ranks. (did I spell that correctly?).  “Young Guns” Jarrad and Ryan couldn’t resist getting their 15 minutes of fame as can be seen in the pictures below.  For the record I don’t think our insurance plan covers Plankers!

Next week sees the Life Members/Reunion day, which is now a new Major Trophy Event.  After the game, we have a full BBQ meal paid for via the clubs fund raising.  This is a big day, so make sure to tell the wife you won’t be home for dinner.  But please make sure you book in by no later than Wednesday and also let us know if you are stopping for the food as we don’t want to be paying out your hard earned donations for extras that don’t stay.

THE MATACH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP & PLATE (ROUND 1)

Always a favourite, Matchplay took centre stage this week, with round one of the top 16 in the Championship and the remainder in the Plate event.  These major trophies are played for over a maximum of 4 rounds for the successful players.  This game always has that little edge to it, in that you’re only out to beat your immediate opponent on the day.  Pleased to say that Saturdays game was played in good spirits though.

The winners in the Championship were, (in seeding order) Mark Wareham, Ryan Bale, Steve Hopkins, Alistair Day, Adam Andersson, Anthony Tuppin, Ian Moore & Derek Russell.

While the players, who progressed to the quarter finals of the plate were, (in seeding order) Carl Andersson, Chris Newton, Mark Grossetti, Ray Close, Les Musgrave, Eddy Lorenti, Kevin Pearce & Jimmy Wyatt

The full results and next rounds draw can be seen on the Results Page.

The guys who didn’t quite always score that well can be seen in the photos below, sporting their appropriate accessories.

Don’t forget that next week sees the running of the Presidents Cup, the most prestigious event of the year (Just ask Kevin Pearce J ).  Make sure you book in by Wednesday guys.

THE MAY MONTHLY MEDAL STROKE

The search for the Holy Grail continued, with the running of the May monthly medal, with the traditional game of stroke.

Fantastic weather too, meant score should e high and they were indeed.  No higher than Greg Ridge who carded a very impressive 64 to take the shirt from David Gallop one shot back on 65, with Adam Andersson taking third with 66 needing a count back from Derek Russell.

There was also a comp for the least numbers of putts, with the winning score being 29.  However this was shared between 5 guys in Greg Ridge, Alan Prodger, Alistair Day, Les Eade and Steve Hopkins!!!

Being monthly medal day, it was also “Ducks on the Pond” day.  Killer and the gang had the members waiting in anticipation at getting a chance to try out for the $200 jackpot on offer.  No luck this time, so next month, there will be a $300 jackpot.  For the record guys, there will be 10 $100 ducks that “will be won” by seasons end, so dig deep for your chance next time around.

As can be seen by the shots below, a lot of fun was had, not to mention how seriously the “Duck Pluckers” were concentrating trying to get the “Big One”. Quack!!!

Finally, just below the pictures are the latest match play seeding’s.  These may still change, but hopefully you can see who you’re up against next Saturday.

For the vacant spots in the Plate, those players who were not around for qualifying will have the opportunity to play, with a draw being made to fill the final 4 spots.  However, you must be able to make all of the games (if you are successful), which will be played on the 2nd Saturday of each month until August.  Speak to Ray next week to nominate yourself.

APRIL NEWS UPDATE

COMBINED STABLEFORD (DRAWN)

Sensational autumn conditions on display for Saturdays latest Major Trophy event, being the running of the Combined Stableford game, with players being drawn.

Leading the way on the day was the pairing of Paul White & Derek Russell with a total of 74 points, who were one shot clear of Alby Hawkins & Derek Lees on 73, who needed a count back from a couple of Steve's in the form of Hoppy and the Penguin (that's Hopkins & Matthews) also on 73.  Well played gents.

Plenty of fun and games after the event as well, as can be seen by the photo’s below.

For the record, Churchy got the Ladies tee award for actually ending up 15m behind the men’s tee!!! (He hit the limestone hole markers).  Pius won the NAGA in a count back and Killer……… well killer just loves to get his photo on the web J

Next week is the much sort after Monthly Medal with a game of stroke, also we have some nibbles after the game, so make sure you book in by no later than Wednesday guys.

BRING A MATE DAY – PAR

Easter is here and to have some fun over the break, Ray organised the ‘bring-a-mate” day and we had 7 “mates” turn up.

One of whom was Kim Sharpe who won the visitors comp. with an 83, from Brian Morley and 3rd was Neil Playle on 95.  Well done guys and thanks to all of the members who brought a “mate” along and also thanks to the “mates’ for coming, it was the best Easter filed we’ve had in years.  We hope you had fun and that we may see you again.

In the main comp, taking home the Easter eggs was the always smiling Alby Hawkins with +4.  He needed a count back from inform Steve Blake, who also scored an Eagle on the 11th.  Nice one Steve.  In third place was Reece Ridge with +3, also needing a count back from Danny Joshi, Ray Close and Steve Hopkins!!!.  Very close indeed.

Ian Moore was smiling too as he was the sole winner of the birds nest on the 4th.

PATRONS TROPHY - STROKE

A late burst of summer caught many off guard, as a fantastic field turned out for a game of stroke, battling for the Patrons Trophy.

Some fantastic results coming in as well, with Adam “Angry” Andersson leading the way with a sensational 65, followed by Steve Blake on 66 and Martin Page on 67.

Plenty of other winners as well with Steve Hopkins & Anthony Tuppin both eagling the 15th with Tuppy also sharing the Birds nest on the third with Phil Aquilina and Alan Prodger.

But the really big news of the day (apart5 from Adam) was club stalwart Jimmy Wyatt acing the 10th.  Well done Jim, a hole in one.  Can’t get any better than that.

In the photo’s below, Les Musgrave got the windy award, Jim, is all smiles, while Cruzer took out the prestigious NAGA award

Next week is Easter and the annual “Bring-a-mate” day, but please book your mates and yourself in via Kev no later than Wednesday night.

RUSSIAN PAR (SELECT)

Blustery wind made scoring difficult (well, that’s what most of us thought) in a Ray Reichard inspired game called Russian Par.  Essentially players picked their partner and then played Par rules, combining the value of their scores each hole.

Not everyone found the going tuff, especially our winners in Steve Blake & Les Eade whose combined score of +4 saw them two shots clear of the NAGA rebounding Kevin Pearce & his buddy Lou DiGregorio.  Coming home third were “Duck Man: Ryan Bale & workmate Alby Hawkins being all square.

Just to let you know the individual scores counted towards Handicap and Eclectic and there are a number of handicap changes with the CCR being +3

So as can be seen in the winner’s photo, Les took his choice of the prizes on offer from Ray’s bounty, with Steve having to make an early exit.  Perhaps Les’s choice was indicative of the fact that they towelled up the opposition.

In other photo’s below, Derek Lee’s looks like he’s off to the races with that lovely matching shirt and hat combination, being awarded with the first ever “Ladies Tee” award along with Killer showing his feelings about winning the “Windy award”.  Also Danny and Geoff show of their award.

Also, don’t forget this coming Friday April 15th is the first major social event of the season, with the return of the very popular Lawn bowls night at the Bassendean bowling club, 10 Whitfield Street.  Cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members and includes a full BBQ dinner, followed by a competitive fun lawn bowling session, with prizes on offer.  Be there for 6.30pm, BBQ is around 7pm, followed by the games.  Please make sure you wear non ripple soled shoes or thongs/bear feet.

THE APRIL MONTHLY MEDAL STROKE

One month gone already!!!  Well it’s been a great start to the season and last Saturday things got serious, with not only the running of the April monthly medal, but also it was the Matchplay qualifying, all based around a game of stroke.

Smiling all the way to the bank was Martin “Marty” Page, who won the day with an impressive 66, plus he also picked up the 3 week jackpot birdsnest on the 1st, taking home $83.  For the record Steve Blake also took home a smaller purse by taking out the birdsnest on the 2nd.

Back to the game and the runner up on the days was the returning Mark Wareham on 67 who needed a count back from Ryan Bale, who was desperate for a win, so much he was climbing tree's.  Well played guys.

Please note that the Matchplay competition will be held on the second Saturday of each month, May through August.   It is a knock out format and the first round fixtures for both the Championship and the Plate are below.  This is after we have removed the guys who have said they can’t play all of the games (should they successfully advance).  If you feel that you are also not going to be able to complete each week of the event, please let us know via email info@rosehillsgc.com or let Ray or Jarrad know.  So while the first round is listed, it could still change.

In other news, Saturday saw the premier of “Ducks on the Pond”.  As can be seen by the shots below, not everyone took home a prize, but rest assured, we will be giving away a guaranteed $1,000 by the end of the season. Quack!!!
