So the final game of winter 2009 season arrived with the traditional Ambrose team event being played.Defending champs Team Losers (TL) lived up to their name and……..lost.
Actually they ran a gallant second, but unfortunately a long way back from new champs and new club record holders in DILLIGAF.The team containing Shane, Colin, Jarrod & Ryan, shot an amazing 16 under par!!!.Great scoring guys well played.
After the game, the club provided drinks and a BBQ as well as giving out some of the minor trophies for the season.
Don’t forget next Saturday evening is the club’s annual Trophy Presentation Wind Up and Dinner Dance. The evening consists of pre dinner drinks at 6.30pm.This year there is a selected open bar, covering a choice of tap and some premium beers, standard spirits, a choice of wine and soft drinks.
At 7pm we have a seated three course meal, during which we present the major trophy winners for the season. This is followed by entertainment provided by a DJ and later in the evening for the first time ever, the Rosehill Social Golf Club player’s revue.Dress standards apply.
Finally, don’t forget to attend the AGM on Wednesday December 9th, at the Rosehill course club rooms at 6.30pm.Sandwiches and drinks will be provided.
PRESIDENT V CAPTAIN – MATCHPLAY
A healthy field turned out for one of the fun events of the year in the annual President v Captain teams matchplay.
Bragging rights this season goes to Shane whose team of merry men got over Kevin’s team 12 games to 6.
There were some noticeable results which can all be found here, but without doubt, the round of the day went to Jarrod Buirchell, who carded a new club record 65 of the stick. Sensational golf Jarrod, well done from all the envious guys at the club.We hope to get the card laminated and mounted in the clubhouse.FYI, the net score would have been 58.
Next weekend is the season ending Memorial Day and is played over an Ambrose team game. After the game the club is supplying a full BBQ dinner and we will also be giving out some minor trophies, leaving the major trophies for the wind up on Saturday December 5th.
THE WEEKEND AWAY Some of the Happy Golfers At Bunbury
Over 60 guests made their way to the picturesque southwest for 3 days of golf and merry making, in the Annual Rosehill Social Golf Club Weekend Away.
Harvey golf club was the first stop on Friday as players battled out for bragging rights in an Ambrose teams comp.Top of everyone’s hit list were the boys from the “Wet Dream Team” or Team T.L. (= Total Losers). No one really cared who won, just as long as the TL boys got knocked off after 2 years of lucky breaks.Well we’re happy to report that this year they couldn’t even break Par, managing only 73.Sorry guys but you know we luv ya really J
The winners on the day however were “The Mixtures”, closely followed by the return of the “A Team”, with “DILLIGAF” living up to their name in third.
After the game, the gang then headed to the Koombana resort in Bunbury for an evening of “choose your own merriment”.After numerous bottles of booze and various “dodgy” card games, the morning arose to see a number of very sore and rough looking heads slinking around the resort.
Once they all got cleaned up though, the gang headed to the fantastically maintained Bunbury private course for the clubs official event, a challenging game of Stableford of which the club subsidized $10 of the green fees. The course had just hosted the WA country open two weeks earlier and it was in magnificent condition.
The winner on the day, who surprised nearly everyone, was author extraordinaire Derek Russell who took out first place with 38 Stableford points, he was a massive 4 shots clear of another Derek, this time Saunders, on 34 and after a 7 way count back, it was Les Eade who snuck up quietly (because he left his normal buggy at home) to take third with 33 points. Well played guys.
Later that evening the club supplied a BBQ and drinks and handed out the prizes and fines for the weekend along with Jerry doing a great job with a monster lucky tens, of which Shane Seward created a new club record by winning 5 of them.
All of the golf winners on the weekend were announced and rewarded with great prizes and we also got to sing Happy Birthday to the clubs youth policy in Jarrod Buirchell who turned 23 on the day. Some people thought he disappeared rather quickly at the end of the function, but rumor has it, his birthday present from the guys was a dip in the pool clothes and all, so he made himself scarce.Later that night everyone went back to their rooms to recover before some brave souls headed to Pinjarra for a free-for –all third game on Sunday.
Thanks to all involved in making the weekend away such a great event.
NOVEMBER MONTLHY MEDAL, 25th ANNIVERSARY & BILL TROPHY
A very special day was celebrated in more ways than one on Saturday. It was not only the November monthly medal, but also the day chosen to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Rosehill Social Golf Club, plus it was the day we got to play for the inaugural Bill Trophy in honor of Bill McComb over a game of stroke.
Coming out on top with a fantastic round of net 65 was Kevin “The Cruizer” D’Cruze, who was a very proud man to be the first to win the Bill Trophy.Nipping at his heels one shot back in second place was club Secretary Derek Russell on 66, with Glen Iry taking third on 67 after a three way count back.To add to the day, club Captain Shane Seward scored an Eagle after coming within a whisker of making an Albatross on the 11th.Great golf guys.
The main event winners on the day along with all of the pin winners were given a bag full of golfing goodies from Jerry as well as the obligatory golf balls. After the game most enjoyed a sausage sizzle and a few laughs, as well as honouring the fantastic achievements of the club President Kevin Pearce who will be playing his 900th club game next week!!!
With the Bill Trophy in our minds, please note that the course management has graciously given permission to his family to spread his Ashes at the course. This will occur at 6pm this coming Thursday November 12th.Players and friends alike are very welcome to come along.
Finally, next weekend will see the long awaited weekend away in the South West. The first game will be an Ambrose team event on Friday at Harvey golf club at 11.00am.Add your club handicaps together and divide by 8. Cost is $20.There is a sausage sizzle after nine holes for $5.00.
After the game we will travel to our accommodation at the Koombana Bay Resort in Bunbury. Please check in at the reception to gain your room allocation and also please adhere to the strict one car per unit policy.Friday night is at your leisure.
Saturday see’s the club event at the Bunbury course at 11.28am, cost $30.This will be a Stableford event, please add 5 shots to your club handicap for this game. After the game, the club is supplying the food and drinks for a BBQ to be held back at our accommodation in the games room area, at which time we will announce all of the Winners for both days, a massive Lucky Tens draw and the Master at Arms.
On Sunday, those that have booked are playing a social game at Pinjarra on the way home at 11.00am, cost $30.Don’t forget that strict dress codes apply at all three courses and that we encourage you to wear the club shirt at Saturday’s game please. The weekend promises to be a lot of fun. Please drive carefully.

THE CAPTAINS TROPHY
Minus his customary parrot on the shoulder and a wooden leg, Captain Grey Beard Seward, or as we call him, Shane, was all excited about what he considers the most prestigious trophy of the entire year. The Captains Trophy!!!
There was plenty of interest in the event with a good field lined up.Scoring was good too, with two players getting net 65’s, which needed a count back to decide the winner. In the end it went to Adam (Angry) Andersson who shot the lights out.If only he could chip!!!Anything 30m from the green and it’s his trusty putter in his hand that does the damage, but with scoring like that, who needs to chip.
Runner up was a gallant newcomer Alby Hawkins, who also played well now he’s settled in.Third spot went to Les Cook with a 67, also decided by a count back from Keith Scrivens.
Well played to all the winners, who will now be itching to get their Wind Up Trophy Night tickets, which is set down for Saturday December 5th at the Rosehill Stables.Put your name on the list on the board now as seats are limited.
Next week we see one of our major sponsors events, in the Rimtec Trophy played over a social game of Stableford. Finally, the Eclectic and Handicaps will be updated on the web site a little later in the week, so check back then.
THE WESTATE 4BBB STABLEFORD TROPHY Dennis Han & Greg Ridge The Record Breaking Pair
Warm? Hot?Try friggin boiling!!!.An October weather record of 37 degree’s baked the players who turned out for the Westate Equipment 4BBB Stableford event on Saturday. This was a 2 man select partner comp that allowed players to choose the highest scoring Stableford score between them on each hole.
And speaking of records, what a score to win the day.50 points saw the Dynamic Duo of Dennis Han & Greg Ridge bolt away to win the major prize.2 shots back were Lawrie Wishart & Mark Wilson in 2nd, with the “Left & White” combination of Hugh Letessier and Paul White taking out third on 47 points.
Not to be outdone in the announcements after the game, Marty Page chipped in for an Eagle on the 18th, before taking 15 minutes to explain to everyone the exact details of the shot. J
Well done to all the winners.
THE PRESIDENTS TROPHY
As the players made their way off the course on Saturday, there were a lot of smiles with some very handy scores coming in.38’s, 40’s, even 42’s.All thinking they had a chance. There was even a couple of guys who had 44’s that thought they were a shoe in, but would you believe it, they weren’t even close.
Anthony Tuppin shot the lights out with a 77 of the stick to come in with 48 points, yes that’s right Forty Eight points.Unbelievable.Anthony achieved this with 13 pars and 5 Bogeys. Shame he can't birdie!!!Great shooting Tupps. He took the trophy from the unlucky pair of Denis Han in 13 pars 5 Bogeys! 2nd place and Hugh Letessier in 3rd both on 44.
Also, of note on the day there were 2 Eagles scored, with Hugh getting one on the 11th and Neil Buscumb scoring one on the 2nd.Great stuff guys.
While you’re reading this, we want to take the opportunity to bring you up to date with one of our members who’s just had some major surgery. Carl “SS” Andersson from Sweeeeeeeden recently went under the knife for a double bypass operation! While he was at IKEA, he saw they had a two for one special and actually ended up having a quadruple bypass instead.
The club has already sent Carl one of our special Get Well Soon cards and are pleased to report that Carl was back home in time to read it when the postie arrived and that he is well on the way to recovery. He won’t’ be swinging a club until the New Year, but will be at the windup in December and hopes to be down the club soon to say hello.
Finally please note that next weeks game is the Westate Sponsored 4BBB Stableford event. This is a select 2 man team’s event, so choose your partners wisely and let Shane, Les and the gang know who you’re teamed up with when you first arrive on Saturday.
Just in case you don’t know, in 4BBB Stableford two players play as partners although the hole is played by each of them, using their individual full handicaps. At the conclusion of each hole, the player recording the highest number of points has his score entered on the card. If both partners score equally on the hole, the score of the player who first completed the hole will be recorded. There is no need to record both scores since only the best score is required, as the competition name applies.Good luck.
MONTHLY MEDAL - PAR
What a glorious day to play golf.Spring has arrived and we had a healthy turn up of players in search of the holy grail of Rosehill, the Monthly Medal shirt, this time with a game of Par.
Leading the pack this time around was Derek Saunders who had a fantastic +7 to lead from new comer Manoj Fernando on +5 and the in form David Lord on +3.Well played guys.
However the shot of the day came from our very own Captain Shane Seward, who scored a hole in one for exactly 1 nano second. On the par 3 third, his tee shot slammed dunked into the hole only to see it bounce straight out at such pace that it actually landed off the putting surface. It was amazing to watch.Bad luck Shane, perhaps you need a word in the green keeper’s ear to get deeper softer cups and flatter flag bases.
ROBBO’S NEW…….MATE
With Robbo and Marty finally making it home from their big Thailand Adventure, we are starting to hear and now see some of the fun times they had.
We couldn’t let this shot go by of the ever smiling Robbo and a new….....err…..….mate.
His name in Fred.Yes, that’s right, “his” name is Fred!!!!
As this was a golfing holiday, we asked Robbo if he and Fred got to play a round, but Robbo confirmed that as he and Fred had the same handicaps and equipment, much to Fred’s disappointment, he couldn’t give Robbo a Stroke!!! J
SEPTEMBER NEWS UPDATE
MATCHFORD
With Geelong and the Saints battling it out in the grand final, keeping many a golfer entertained at home, a few hardy souls turned out to take advantage of the peace and quiet of the course for a novelty game of Matchford.
We’re not exactly sure how the rules work, but it has something to do with combining Stableford, Stroke, Par, Mach play scores, then subtracting the first number you thought off, dividing the balance by your age at you next birthday and then subtracting your handicap. The highest score wins.
Once the computer worked things out, it was actually David Lord who took out first with 211 points from John Trewick on 196 and Eddy Lorenti on 180.Congratulations guys.
PAR BOWL (Round Two)
41 players turned up to play the course, including (for our club) the new 10th hole for the first time.Apparently the new lake has already consumed a few golf balls, although Kevin Stonehouse did manage to be the first to “skim it” all the way across.
This however, did not deter the front runners in round two of the par bowl, with once again some very impressive scores coming in.Leading the way on the day was Adam “Angry” Andersson with a +7!!!He was two shots clear of Pius O’Keeffe on +5 who took the place in a count back from Steve Blake in 3rd.
Adam should check the board next week as the handicapper was salivating at the prospect of getting out his “chainsaw” to adjust his handicap.
But the burning question everyone had was who took out the overall trophy.Well it was the very much in form C Grade champ Alan Marson, who had a +4 to go with his previous +6 for a total of +10.Runner up was the fast finishing Pius O’Keeffe who ended up on +8.Well played and congratulations to all the winners.

Games played: 889
You will see Bill’s name on many of the clubs perpetual trophies. He loved the club and described it as his extended family.Bill played his last game with us on 6th June this year.Bill, although sick still came to the club to do his handicapping and attend meetings, so was his dedication to the club.As Bill never complained about anything I doubt whether anyone realised how sick he was and what was coming.
Our thoughts are with Peg, his family and friends.
Rest in peace Bill and don’t forget to sign your card.
Kevin Pearce President
Note : Please watch the papers and our website for funeral information and if attending, club Polo Shirts to be worn if possible please.
PAR BOWL (Round One)
A handy field of players turned out to fight for one of the harder event of the year in the Par Bowl, played over 2 rounds. It is the Silver Fox in John Trewick who leads at the half way mark, with a great +6, he is in front thanks to a count back from in form C Grade champ Alan Marson, with Dennis Han in third on +4.
Plenty of golf still to be played next week to decide the winner, but these 3, along with a few others, are in the box seat. Good luck guys.

BILLS DAY (OVER & UNDER 55’s STABLEFORD)
Bill McComb is a stalwart of the Rosehill Social Golf Club, a founding member who has given tirelessly, for well over 20 years in various roles, with great emphasis on Handicapping.51 players turned out for what can only be described as one of the most heartfelt and proud days in the clubs history when we celebrated Bill’s dedication to the club in what we called "Bills Day".
For those that are unaware, Bill is doing it very tough at the moment, with partner Peg by his side, he is facing his greatest challenge. The odds aren’t great, but the demeanor and character of this man shines through. He warmed the heart when he and Peg made a personal appearance before the start of the day’s activies, with the President saying some very nice words and also reading Bill McComb out a card of thanks which is displayed below.
So onto the course we went, just after a massive downpour of rain which saw plenty of local water.Things fined up though to allow players to fight for the 2 trophies available based on their current age.
In the Over 55’s event 26 members played with Dave Lord who carded a nice 42 points to take the win from Greg Ridge on 40, with Derek Saunders on 38.
In the Under 55’s event 26 members played and it was Steve Hopkins who rose to the top of the pack to card 42 points to win, with Mark Wareham on 40 in 2nd.
Well played to all the winners, but more importantly congratulations and a huge thank you must go to the club members, who dug deep to raised close to $2,000 on the day, which will go to Bill and Peg with our best wishes to help them out in these difficult times. The money has helped pay for a Recliner Chair and Walking Frame that is already making Bill’s time at home a little more comfortable.Well done to everyone involved. If you want to pop around and see Bill at home to have a chat and give him some company, please check with a committee member for the address or feel free to email the club at info@rosehillsgc.com and we will send you his details.Once again guys, thank you all very much.
MONTHLY MEDAL (STROKE)
Time to bring everyone up to date with last week’s game, which was not announced on the day, as we needed to get off to the annual Quiz night.
The chase for the Rosehill Holy Grail of Polo shirts (the Monthly Medal) was run and won by new player Wil (men in black) Smith with a very nice 64.2 shots back in second was Pius O’Keeffe with 66, who piped Grant Stokes who had 67.Well played guys.
THE 2009 QUIZ NIGHT
Over 100 people were in attendance to try their luck at the Annual Rosehill Social Golf club Quiz Night, once again held at the Bellevue RSL on Saturday Night.
The Horses Birthday was the general theme, with a few Horsey type questions, but there were plenty of other subjects thrown in to give everyone a chance. In fact out of the 110 points on offer the 16 tables averaged over 80.
The Bellevue RSL was nice and full
There was a fantastic array of prizes on offer worththousands of dollars and thanks goes to all of the following players for their support in being able to get various donations of products and services for us to be able to use.
Lou Digregorio, John McGrath, John Trewick, Lawrie Wishart, Ray Reichard, Steve Hopkins, Dennis Han, Neil Buscumb, Keith Scrivens, Alan Marson, Danny Joshi, Grant Stokes, Robbo, Stuart Craven, Anthony Tuppin, Mark Burich, Shane Seward, Richard Church, Mark Powell, Jerry Mercer, Les Cook, Peter Marriott, Carl Andersson, Kevin Pearce, David Gallop, Garry Cook and Derek Russell.Check out the companies that donated here.
Some of those donations were used as Raffle prizes or Door prizes, some were used as prizes for games of Head and Tails and of course one was used for the now infamous "Adult Raffle", plus we had a great selection to acknowledge 1st through to 5th place.
We also had some very valuable items that were used in a silent auction.2 of note were a West Coast Eagles Football that was signed by the entire 2006 Premiership Squad, which was donated by Mark Powell. It went for $290 to an outside bidder. We also had a 2009 Johnny Walker Classic Hat, signed by Greg Norman, this was donated by Stuart Craven and went for $100 to our own Richard Church.2 great prizes and 2 great bargains for the lucky winners.
A selection of the Silent Auction and other prizes on offer
The competition was keen, with the winning table on the night contained club member Steve Blake who brought along a combination of Teachers and Professors to help him out. Well done Steve.
Steve Blake and the Brains Trust who took out 1st place
Here's the full results.
Don’t forget that next Saturday is the Over and Under 55’s event. After the game we will be presenting the results from last Saturday’s game as well.We will also be putting on some snacks and doing a little something to help out one of our longest standing members in Bill McComb who isn’t too well at the moment.More about that down at the club.
JULY NEWS UPDATE
STABLEFORD BOWL (Round 2) UPDATE
Further to the previous report on the Stableford Bowl event, we need to update the fact that due to an error with the checking of the cards, the winner was in fact Jim Plowman, with Kevin Stnehouse taking out the runners up spot. The club apologises to both players for the mix up.
STABLEFORD BOWL (Round 2)
A massive 48 players turned out for the 2nd and deciding round of this year’s Stableford Bowl event. With a number of players in with a chance of overall Victory, the competition was on.
On the day, it was Kevin D’Cruze who blitzed the field with 43 points, winning not only the day’s event, but $70 in “side bets” and 2 lucky 10’s.Not a bad days work Kev.2nd was Jim Plowman on 41, who piped Alan Prodger in a count back for third.
The 41 points for Jim was just one point shy of him taking out the overall result, as he had to settle for 2nd behind the 2009 winner in Kevin Stonehouse, who carded a 39 to add to last week’s 42.Well done Kevin, good consistent scoring.
Don’t forget that with next Saturday evening being the club’s annual Quiz night, there will be no usual after match activities.Any Prizes will be given out the following week. This will allow all members attending the Quiz A Happy Kevin night enough time to get home and get down to the venue at the Bellevue RSL Bowling club for 7pm.
STABLEFORD BOWL (Round 1)
The bad weather didn’t keep away a great field in the popular Stableford Bowl event, played over 2 consecutive weeks.
And while many players came back in grumbling about how tough it was, 3 guys shone above the pack, all scoring 42 points.Kevin Stonehouse is the club house leader with Ray Reichard in second and Les Cook in third.
So effectively, these 3 will start even money favorites next week, but there are many players just a few shots off that might have a say in proceedings.Good luck to all those involved.
Just a reminder to all of the newer members of the club, just because this is a two week event, it doesn’t stop you playing next week as we always award prizes for the best players on the day, so if you’re not in with a chance or you didn’t play this week, don’t let that stop you from coming down for a hit.
Finally, with the Quiz night 2 weeks away, please bring any prizes you can get down to the club next Saturday so we can get them ready for the following week.
HARLEY CABINETS EVENT
40 players, including two new hopefuls and 2 “infamous” guests in Jonesy and Marney turned out for the Colin Lane sponsored Annual Harley Cabinets Trophy, stroke event.
It was John Trewick who showed the “young guns” how to do it as well, winning with a very well played 69.10 shots less than his age, now that is impressive!!!!He won in a count back from the inform Dave Lord, with Les Eade taking third with a 71.
Thanks to Colin for supplying all the prizes for the day, including the first prize of a $50 golf box voucher.Happy spending John.
MONTHLY MEDAL - PAR
37 players turned out in beautiful clear winter conditions to battle for the Holy Grail of Polo Shirts, in the July Monthly Medal Par event. What incredible scoring as well.John Trewick playing the week after his 79th birthday (well done John) had a +1 and didn’t even get close to the leader board.
It was David (oh my) Lord who shot the lights out with a sensational +8 to win via a count back from Adam Andersson.Fancy hitting +8 and running second, that’s hard luck Adam.Third spot was taken out by Danny Joshi with an impressive +4.Amazing scores guys. The Handicapper is salivating at the thought of what’s he’s gonna do with yours.Check the board next week, when we line up for the Annual Harley Cabinets Trophy event sponsored by Colin Lane.
Match Play Plate Update
Now we here at the web site office have to bring to everyone’s attention the fact that we had numerous complaints during the week about the reporting of last week’s Match Play final. There was a constant stream of phone calls, emails and SMS’s saying that the reporting was bias. The only thing was, they all came from a Mr. D. Robertson?AKA Robbo!!!!
So in the spirit of fairness, we thought that it was best if Robbo described “in his own words” just how things panned out. *So here we go, we take up play on the 16th green, with Robbo holding a one shot lead………………
“Mate you should have been there, Louieeee dropped a monster on 16 to hang on, I had a 10 footer to stay in front and she dropped so we went to 17 and halved it.
Standing on 18 with 1 hole advantage (but had to give him one) I slice my tee into the sand and Louieeee completely had a brain drain and put it directly left over the creek and into the bushes on the other side, he dropped hitting 3 and topped it to under a tree in thick grass, hacked it out of there and got himself on the fairway but for 4.
I at that stage have hacked out of the bush and back on the fairway for 2. we get down towards the green and Louieeee is on the right hand side of the green, I am in front of the green about 6 feet away, so he had no choice he had to go for it, and bang into the bunker she went, oh Louieeee, bad luck I said, and he shook my hand and offered his congratulations.
So, there you go, you can now feel as if you were there”.
*RSGC takes no responsibility for any proper gander written in the above report.
JUNE NEWS UPDATE
MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS (Finals)
Neil Buscumb is the 2009 Match Play Champion, winning 1 up in his final against Paul White. Threatening rain and windy conditions tested the player’s skill and nerve as the two finalists set out.
Neil got away to a flyer, being 4 up at one stage, but a strong fight back from Paul saw that lead narrowed down to one, before the holes ran out.Congratulations go to Neil in winning back to back championships.A rare feat indeed.
In the Plate event, a gallant Lou DeGregorio fought tooth and nail in an effort to take out the win.His never say die attitude shone through as he mustered on all his experience in the tough conditions. His playing partner’s were suitably impressed by his efforts.
In the event for the “also-rans” it was Steve Blake who carded a 71 to take out the win from John Collins in a count back.Peter Buttfield ran third with 72.The scores proved just how tricky the wind made it.Well played guys.
Oh, and by the way, Robbo won the plate. J
MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS (Semi Finals)
And then there were 2.We now have our finalists for the 2009 Match Play Championships and also the Plate event, to be decided over 18 holes next week.
In Wet and Windy conditions, it was Defending Champion Neil Buscumb who beat number one seed Danny Joshi 5 & 4 to convincingly stake his claim in the final in his effort to try to go back to back.It won’t be any easy task as he will be facing new comer Paul White, who has quietly gone about his business, beatingPeter Marriot 2 up to become the other finalist.
The Match Play Championship Final
V
In the Plate we have the dream final we always wanted (ha!!!!, who writes this crap?) with the much awaited “Battle of the Porn Kings” after number one seed Dave “Robbo” Robertson had a 3& 1 win over Eddy Lorenti. He will play long standing club member Louieeeeeeeeee Digregorio, who beat Kevin Stonehouse 3 & 2.
The Match Play Plate Final
V
Good luck to all four players next week. The eyes of the club will be upon you!!!
In the other game on the day for the “also-rans” it was Mark Wilson who carded a nice +4 to take the win from Jim Plowman on +2, who took 2nd in a count back from Les Cook.
But the really big news of the day was from Pius O’Keeffe, who definitely had the luck of the Irish on his side, when he bagged this season’s first “Hole in One” on the shortened par 3 10th.Fantastic stuff Pius.I bet you can’t wait to pick up your trophy at the wind up on Saturday December 5th.Due to the modifications to the hole, the club has unanimously decided to cut the actual trophy in half and present a smaller version.Naaaa just kidding, well done. The members are looking forward to all having free drinks from you for the rest of the season.
Hole In One
Pius O'Keeffe
Par 3 10th 20/6/09
MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS (Quarter Finals)
8 became four in the match play shoot out in both the Championship and the Plate events.Top seed in the Championship Danny Joshi came from 4 down to win 2+1 against a valiant Anthony Tuppin and in the Plate, top seed Dave “Robbo” Robertson held off a hard finishing David Gallop to also win 2+1
All the results went down to the wire and can be found by clicking here
Next week we see the Semi Finals with Danny playing Neil Buscumb and Paul White playing Peter Marriot in the Championship and in the Plate Robbo takes on Eddy Lorenti with Lou Digregorio up against Kevin Stonehouse.Good luck to one and all.
In the Stableford event for “the rest of us” it was the new Nearest the Pin Maker, Grant Stokes who absolutely shot the lights out with 45 points, a massive 5 points clear of Jim Plowman with 40 and Arie Venter in third spot with 39.Great scoring Grant, but you might want to check your new handicap…..Ouch!!!
MONTHLY MEDAL - STABLEFORD
46 players squeezed on to the course in perfect winter conditions in the quest for the June Monthly Medal with a game of Stableford.
High scores were the order of the day, with the top three players all scoring 43 points. However, the secret to winning (apparently) is to make sure your balls are blue.Yes, blue and we’re not talking about leaving your fly open in the chilly weather.Kevin Stonehouse is the man with those blue balls and he won the day, from Neil Buscumb in second and Adam Andersson in third.
On a sad note, we must advise of the passing of a former club member in Don Hadfield.Don served many years on the committee and was a great guy to have around the club.Although he has not played at the club for a number of years, he will be remembered by many of the longer serving members. Our condolences go to his family.
MAY NEWS UPDATE
LIFE MEMBERS / REUNION DAY
38 players turned out in glorious conditions for a game of Stableford, with yet another victory to Steve Hopkins, who carded 40 points to win in a count back from Stuart Craven. In third spot, 5 players were fighting for the honors with 39 points, with the count back finally going to Paul White.Well played guys, some very consistent scoring.
Next week, the June Monthly Medal, played over a round of Stableford.
MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS (Round One)
Winter arrived early as cold conditions and threatening rain made a vast contrast from the balmy autumn conditions of late.Heavy rain during the week made for soggy conditions under foot, all of which added to the challenge of beating your partner in the first round of the Match Play Championships and Plate events.
Full results can be found here, but a number of games went down to the wire.In the championship, of the top 3 seeds only the Danny Joshi (seeded 1) won through to the next round, where he will face in form Anthony Tuppin, while in the plate the same situation applied with the number one seed Dave “Robbo” Robertsonthe only player to win through, although this was with a bye.He will play David Gallop in the next round, which is set for 13th July.
When those match play games are scheduled, the rest of the club will be playing their own event.
HANDICAP CHAMPIONSHIPS (Round two)
Anthony Tuppin has come from the pack to win the 2009
Handicap championships with a great round of 67 to add to his
69 last week giving him a 4 shot victory over his good mate
Kevin D’Cruze who had a total of 140 to take the runners up spot.
Well done Anthony on taking out one of the major trophies of
the season.
On the day though it was Dennis Han who shot the lights out with
a 63!!! He took the day’s event by 4 over Anthony, who in turn
piped Peter Buttfield in a count back.
Hasn’t it’s been a big week for Kevin D’Cruze as well.Earlier in
the week he scored his first every hole in one (at Fremantle).
Then to add to his runners up trophy, he also collected the birds
A Happy Anthony nest jackpot of $99.Sweet.
So it’s drinks all round from Kev we think.Speaking of drinks, just a reminder that if any player’s wants to consume alcohol in the club rooms or on the course, then it must be purchased from the course only. You cannot bring your own alcohol into the club or onto the course, it contravenes the liquor licensing laws. Thanks guys.
Next week, the Match Play tournaments begins.
HANDICAP CHAMPIONSHIPS (Round one)
Round one of the 2009 Handicap championships saw a masterful display from “The Swollen One” Hugh Letessier, who carded a 64 to lead by a massive 4 shots from Captain Shane Seward with 68, who piped Grant Stokes in a count back on the day.
The initial talking point at the club was the major changes to the
par 3, 10th hole. The old green is now under 10m of sand with a
new “lake” being carved into the old creek.Eventually the new
green will remain two tiered, but not as dramatic as before.
So for now we have a temporary postage stamp of a green just
71m from the tee. This made for some interesting shots, as
everyone got to try it out for the first time.
But as our eyes focus to round two of the championship, we
hear that Hugh has a secret weapon to keep the challengers at
bay. He's managed to get his hands on a "special tool".Yes
it’s Taser Time!!!Best stand back boys, he means business. J
It’s Taser Time!!!
MAY MONTHLY MEDAL
The Western derby didn’t stop 38 guys from chasing the Rosehill Holy Grail, being the coveted Monthly Medal shirt, this time with a game of stroke.
Conditions were perfect (apart from the slow public) and we saw some impressive scores come in.None better that Robbo and David Gallop who both carded net 65’s. (Swab please) Robbo was so confident that he’s done the business that he was cock-a-hoot with success back in the club rooms, but it was David Gallop who......well…..galloped away to win by a half short nose in a count back.Right on their heels was Eddy Lorenti in third with a net 66.Well played guys, great scoring.
Now for a few other things we need to keep you up to date with.Firstly is our new starting time for the remainder of the winter comp. The first group will now be away at 12.24.This will allow us to squeeze a few more players on when the trophy hunters come out to play.
Also, in future each week the draw will be conducted earlier at 12 noon.In other words, the bucket containing your numbered tags will be taken away so the match committee can get the ball rolling, drawing the playing groups before the bell is rung.Any player that arrives after 12 noon will automatically go to the rear of the field.Sorry guys, but it’s the only way the match committee can get everything organized in time. We’re sure you’ll understand why.
Finally, the WAGL (WA Golf League) official handicap cards have arrived and are in the process of being given out.The card has your current handicap written on the back and is authorised by our handicapper, Bill McComb, who has done a lot of work to get things right. Thanks Bill.
FYI, if you want to play in a WAGL (or other) sanctioned event, it is your responsibility to see Bill or any of the Match committee to get your handicap changed on your card in time to compete. When you play in a WAGL event, they will check your card and record the details. This is then cross referenced to the official list that Bill sends in each week to the WAGL.Hence the two must be the same or you potentially won’t be allowed to play.
Don’t forget next week see’s round one of the Handicap Championships, played over two weeks of stroke.
APRIL NEWS UPDATE
MATCHPLAY FUN DAY
42 players (including a visitor and potential new member) turned out for a spot on Match play on Saturday, to practice for the upcoming Championship and Plate events.
Some interesting results came out of it and can be seen in detail on the results page. Each winner received a ball for their efforts.
Next week you have the chance try and win the exclusive monthly medal shirt, this time with a stroke event. The following week we have one of the major events of the year in the Handicap Championships, which is played over two consecutive rounds.
Thanks must go to our new sponsor “Advantage Tyres Redcliffe” for their support with this event. If you are in the market for some new tyres, pop down and see the guys and mention Rosehill Social Golf Club. They are on the corner of Great Eastern Highway and Fauntleroy Ave near the Airport.
And in closing, a belated congratulation to John Collins who picked up his first Eagle at the club on the ninth. However, this was back on the 11th April but was only brought to our attention last week.Well done John.

MATCHPLAY QUALIFYING - STROKE
With 32 spots up for grabs 34 players turned up to see who could qualify for the Match Play Championship and Plate tournament that will be decided later in the year.
Going absolutely mad on the day with 5 birdies and a net score of 65 was Steve “Hoppy” Hopkins. Great scoring Hoppy. In 2nd spot was the “Bin Hunter” Danny Joshi who had an impressive 67, beating the very consistent John Collins in a count back.
Unfortunately Hoppy can’t make it to every game of the match play (should he be successful in proceeding each time) so he has relinquished his #1 seeding to Danny when the first round commences on May 23rd.
The current draw is listed below, but this could still change if we have players drop out.
However, just to get you all in the mood, next week we are having a “fun” Match Play event (nothing to do with the championship or plate). We hope to see you then.
Finally congratulations goes to Paul White who picked up his first Eagle at the club on the ninth.

EASTER BRING A MATE - STROKE
Full up on hot cross buns and dreaming of Easter eggs didn’t stop 36 players tuning up for a game of Stroke in the annual Bring a mate event.
It was Les Cook who prevailed with a very impressive 64 to romp in, 3 shots clear of Peter Marriott who had a very good 67.This was one shot ahead of Steve Hopkins on 68
Well played guys, but best you check your new handicaps before your next round.
Don’t forget next weeks game is the qualifying for the Match Play Championships (to be held later in the year). The top 16 qualifiers are based on this stroke round and will be in the Championships tournament and the next 16 qualifiers will be in the Plate event.
Please remember that the Match Play trophy and Plate events are played over many weeks in a knock out format (16, 8, 4, 2), starting with round one on May 23rd, Then in June we have the Quarters, Semi’s and the Final over 3 consecutive weeks being the 13th, 20th & 27th.If you know that you won’t be able to make one of the rounds (should you successfully proceed through the comp) then please let the Captain know that you are a non starter in the match play, as we like to have those that start, finish the event. We can fill the gap with emergency players, from those who didn’t make the top 32. Thanks.
MONTHLY MEDAL - STABLEFORD
One month into the new season and we have the 2nd Monthly Medal shirt up for grabs, but the result has a similar ring to it with John Collins going back to back claiming his 2nd shirt in as many attempts, this time with a winning 41 Stableford points.Well done John.He was closely followed by Lawrie “Truck” Wishart on 40 points who took 2nd in a count back from Greg Ridge.
38 people again made the game, which is a great effort, the CCR was also 38, which meant that all three winners are in Handicap trouble (which always brings a smile to Bills face)
Some other news to keep you up to date with, our very own President, Kevin “KP” Pearce has not been well of late, but in now heading in the right direction and we should see his glowing face again soon. All the best KP, from all the guys at the club.
MARCH NEWS UPDATE
FOUNDATION CUP
36 players including 3 visitors turned out for the latest major trophy up for grabs, in the Foundation Cup.Streaking away with the victory was new comer Anthony Tuppin with 44 points who was a whopping 4 shots ahead of Jerry Mercer who had a very good 40 points,Third spot was taken in a count back by Steve Hopkins on 39 points.
As always the man that has the last say is our handicapper and Bill has ”got another one” with a 2 shot adjustments to Anthony’s handicap, now down to 16.Well played by all of the guys.
STABLEFORD
With a few old faces turning up for the first time this year plus so many new faces, we had a total of 40 players out on the course in fantastic conditions for the first game of Stableford for the season.
Leading the way on his return was that Pirate of the course John “Sea Legs” McGrath with a very good 43 points, one clear of “all round nice guy” Dani Joshi on 42 followed in third spot by Neil “the plumber” Buscumb on 39.Good shooting guys.

PATRONS TROPHY - STROKE
33 players turned out in warm conditions to fight for the right of being this seasons first major trophy winner, with the Patrons trophy up for grabs over a game of stroke.
Leading the way was the smiling assassin, Derek Saunders, who blitz the field with a score of 65.Two shots clear of “el presientai” Kevin Pearce with 67, which was one shot clear of Les Eade on 68 in third.
We also had our first Eagle for the year with Mark Wareham doing the business on the 9th.
But the biggest winner on the day was our handicapper Bill McComb. He had an even bigger smile on his face when he reported that he had reduced Derek’s handicap from 22 to 19.Wow, 3 shots in one go.Maybe it should be Bill who’s called the smiling assassin?
Just a reminder guys, that we have to finalise the footy tipping numbers for this year as the first game is very close. So please see the Footy Tipping page for details and register now!!!
MONTHLY MEDAL - STROKE
The opening day of the winter season saw a record 44 players turn up to battle for the first Yellow shirt on offer for 2009.It was great to see a number of familiar faces dust off the clubs for the first time along with the brave souls who played in the summer comp, including around half a dozen new members who thought that they might play on in the winter comp.
Blowy conditions settled after a few hours and let the heat flow through,
but rising above this was a new member from last season, John Collins,
who had an impressive 67, he was followed by 2 new summer (now winter)
players in Denis Han on 68 and Anthony Tuppin on 69.Well played guys
With the CCR also being 69, a couple of you will need to check the
handicap board next week.
Speaking of which, as the playing numbers are starting off high, the
Captain has managed to secure a couple of earlier spots next week, with
the first group getting away at 12.24, so please don’t be late to the club
1st Winner for 09 and remember to put your disc in the bucket, once you’ve paid your fee’s.
John Collins
To complete the first days activities our Social Secretary arranged for sandwiches to be enjoy. As a foot note, every monthly medal game this year (first Saturday of the month) we will be providing some similar form of light refreshment after the game.
Next week we have the first major trophy up for grabs this season, being the Patrons Trophy, decided over a game of stroke.
